I want to install opensuse,add/remove programs,themes,customise and then re-spin it into an image which I can carry,perhaps as a live medium. I have heard Fedora has tools to do it.Does opensuse have any tool to do that?

I am coming from Kubuntu 10.10, which is a Debian based OS. I am used to going into the terminal and typing sudo apt-get install or sudo apt-get remove to install and remove programs. I know it is the hard way to do it, but I find it gave me more flexibility. So how do I do this in openSUSE 11.3? Or can I even install things through terminal? What is the command? I know there is YaST but I also want to learn how to use the terminal

The only MS program I need on my computer is Word 2007 for the equation editor to write/edit files from work. So after installing Wine I installed MSOffice2007. Excel worked OK (although I don't need it - I am perfectly happy with the Libre Office spreadsheet). Word however froze each time so I tried to uninstall and reinstall it. However I always got an error message when trying to uninstall with Wine. So I followed the advice of some strands in this forum and deleted the Program Files folder from the ~.wine directory. However the menus are still in Wine/Programs/Microsoft Office even though they lead to nowhere. I tried to reinstall but still I nothing happened. I presume the old entries still lead to the position where previously the .exe files were located. Now my question is either how can I remove these menu entries and try installing again - or even better - is there a Linux programme that can read/edit the equations written in Word 2007?
View 4 Replies View Relatedhow to use my downloaded themes, I used a default Xfce theme. The only issue I saw with that was that the Synamptic window did not take the selected theme, it was default. When I selected my downloaded them in the Appearance menu, Synamptic started using the selected theme, but everythign else (99% of windows) went back to the default light grey color. Although my dark theme is selected, only Synaptic (that I know of) is using it.

I want it to leave the incomplete .iso image there so I can play with it, any suggestions cause I've searched scratched and dissected, trying to do my homework but doggone if I can figure it out,
After upgrading from opensuse 11.2 to 11.3 my firefox and thunderbird have changed their theme to a new one(?). Actually I prefer more 11.2 theme as firefox's and thunderbir'ds interfaces look a little bit "bulky" to me.
How can I change their themes?
Recently installed F12 through the text based install and have got to GNOME gui but when i got to system/administration i only get two options and those are for display changes. Is there some way to install the features i missed out on? namely Add/remove programs which i can't seem to find anywhere

But the installer doesn't allow me to set the partition as / without formatting. XFS is not one of the filesystems listed as options for formatting. How can I make Fedora do what I want?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently installed ubuntu studio 9.10 amd64 on my MBP 5,3 I need an internet connection for updates and to customise my system etc I tried to connect with a wired connection but for some reason I could not configure the ethernet interface. I tried to install the broadcom bcmwl-kernel-source driver by downloading it on another computer and then using a usb stick to transfer it. I had to go through installing several dependencies including dkms and linux-headers-generic. When I finally succeeded the driver showed up in Hardware privers as proprietry but was inactive. Whenever I try to active it I hit 'Activat' I authenticate and the nothing happens. It remains inactive. The wired connection is not readily available to me so it would be great if it was possible to solve this either via a usb or cd.

i had also added vbox users(i ticked vboxusers) under yast-security and users-user and group management-edit-details to make virtual box work.
i want to check that installed theme so i restarted my laptop.after the restart opensuse taking too long time to boot
note:the login theme also not working.
after the boot i restored defaults in login screen themes.it is also not working.
i don't know which cause this problem(vboxusers or login theme).i am also seeing a root user has been added in my login area.i tried opensuse failsafe also.

I am relearning much of openSUSE and unsure of the compiling commands, which one(s) should be ran as a user, which commands should be ran as root... I've done a search on this topic and it seems there is a difference in login between make, make install, checkinstall etc.
I understand I'll also need some developer packages to compile tarballs however I don't know which ones. The last time I unsuccessfully tried to work with tarballs was when openSUSE 9.x was current. It's been that long. There is a program I absolutely need, it's SecondLife which I haven't found in any RPM repositories. I've downloaded the "linux" version from their website. The file name is: SecondLife-i686-2.5.2.223426.tar.bz2 I have a 64bit Toshiba notebook running 11.4
I use Factory repositories of KDE4 and there are new releases almost every day in that repository. Although I believe that there are useful updates in the packages, I don't think they are really that crucial that I should update them every day.
When I do update, I usually use graphical frontend and select from menu: Packages >> All Packages >> Update if newer version available. That includes all the updates available either for the program or the package.
I'd really like to be able to sort out these packages that have updates for the programs available. Is there any way to do it?
start out with I don't know much about computers and I'm using my brothers computer that has Opensuse. I am unable to ask him how to do this but I am trying to download programs off the internet.

When using "Add/remove software" application, I only can check packagesh are not installed, I can't choose installed packages which I want to remove, there is no check box in front of their names.So now I have to remove packages with yum. How can I remove packages in this GUI application

View 3 Replies View RelatedI would like to install a new icon theme without effecting my currently selected panel theme, as i think the Ambience panel theme looks really nice and unified but im not too keen on the Ubuntu-Mono icons.Is this easily possible, without going into my icon folders and replacing all the instances of one style for another?Are there any applications for gnome icon theming like OS X's Candybar?Im sure others must desire to change only the icons and perhaps it is really easy and this is why i couldnt dig anythin up on google, that or im a useless googler.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm a new Fedora user and I having difficulty with the product.I downloaded both the live cd and dvd of F13. I installed F13 from the live cd and after it completed I created my user name and then rebooted. Once I logged in I went to Administration -> add/remove program. I then clicked on package collections and ticked off the ones that I wanted. I then clicked on the APPLY button and I noticed that in the lower left corner of the screen (below the left panel and just above the Help button) it said Running and then nothing. If I attempt to close the screen it says that all selections will be lost. I also went back and set the filter to list "all installed" and the programs that I had selected were in the list.I then decided to try the dvd iso, so I blew everything away and installed F13 from there, but I encountered the same thing.So I'm at a loss what I'm doing incorrectly
