Is there a way to get rid of the floppy entry in the Places? This is not the bookmarks area (which is below) so I can't just right-click and remove or remove it from Bookmarks spot. I already tried commenting the floppy in fstab and then removed the entire line to no avail. Floppy drive is disabled in the Bios, I haven't had a floppy drive in 10+ years.

How can I get (permanently) rid of these entries ? How can I rename "Home Folder" to "Home" ?
The first set of links under Places in the menu bar applet open Picasa instead of nautilus and their associated folders.I tried reapplying the applet from the "add to panel" menu. No go. Also when I get into nautilus (using "computer" below the separation line in the places menu) I can access the bookmarks just fine.

I don't know what I did in the terminal trying to encrypt files but now when I click on something in places tab to open it using Nautilus, it does not, instead it open in a tab of Mozilla Firefox, I don't like it. View 3 Replies View RelatedA potentially very dumb question but still ... I want to create a place that I can choose in the panel at the top left. So I
- go to Nautilus (tree view in sidepane) down in the folders until I see my destination on the left;
- switch to places in the sidepane and drag and drop the folder onto the places thing.
Then, the folder shows up with the name there, which is something like "Web_ABC". So I want to change it to "Web" only. On my 64bit machine, this works, on my 32bit machine, it doesn't. Whenever I change the name and press ENTER, it goes back to the old name. On the 64bit system, it only worked when I went to some other place once, and then fine, but on the 32bit one, no chance.
I have quite a lot of testing operating systems installed. Some with their own home or boot partition. Now my places section in nautilus is an utter MESS. I was not able to find any working solution how to hide these partitions.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI was trying out bash scripts to see how to mount NetGear readyshare. I can do so using Nautilus and selecting Network but I wanted to be able to do so from a script. I don't know how it happened but when I clicked on Places/Documents it opened a terminal instead of Nautilus. This applies to all the folders in the Places menu but I can still get Nautilus by clicking Places/Computer and below.
I'm using ubuntu 10.4, nautilus 2.30.1
I had troubles with my NTFS external hdd mounting without becoming root until I changed my fstab file. However after changing my fstab file I created an error in the place of the one I had fixed. Now since the change I have two entries of my external hard drive in Places. I'd like to know how to remove the duplicate entry.

I am trying to permanently integrate a windows network drive into my Ubuntu 11.04. I don't have Nautilus - I am using Rox Filer instead. I am trying to get this job done according to this link here (Method 2): [URL]. I want to integrate the network drive as described in Method 2, but I don't have Places->Network. Is there a way I could do this without Nautilus?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was trying to install Sim City 4 Deluxe when somehow through my mounting an un-mounting of the two ISO's nautilus decided to make an entry in the places menu. I've searched through the forums and most of what I'm finding is how to remove things like the network and desktop items.
Here are three screenshots showing what I mean. Number one shows the entry I am talking about, specifically the SC4DELUXE1 entry. Number two shows that just right clicking and selecting remove like many threads suggest does not work here as it is grayed out. Lastly number three, this is the error I'm given when I left click the entry.
I finally figured out how to fix this. I simply went into the disk utility. Under peripheral devices the unwanted device was listed. Click the check file system button after selecting the device. It reports back that the file system is not clean and removes the device.
I disabled it in the BIOS and tried to remove it in the safe mode but that bloody thing is back everytime I log in

I have about a dozen window managers installed, and just to test the new KDE 4.4 update I used kde for one day (use gnome mostly) and now the gnome places menu opens up the kde file manager dolphin instead of nautilus. How can I change it. It doesn't even appear in the edit menus item on right clicking the menu.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently preformed a full update to my openSuSe 11.3 x64 + gnome install. Everything was running fine before the update however post a number of features have stopped working or have changed. I used the command zypper up to update everything. The errors I've been recieving are as follows, Wastebasket
Won't open on via Desktop or Places menu. Gives the following error "Could not display "trash:" File Is Of An Unknown Type". If I drop things on the Wastebasket the files do go to /home/USERNAME/.local/share/Trash/files but I can't Empty Wastebasket upon right click as the option is highlighted out.
Computer Icon If I try to open it from link in Places menu I get the error Nautilus cannot handle "computer" locations.. The link to it has also disappeared from the left hand panel if I have a Nautilus window open.
Mounted Icons Previously I used to have 4 drives mounted;
1 network (NFS),
1 encrypted (TrueMount),
2 Windows (partitions of main machine)
Out of these only the encrypted and network drive showed on the Desktop and two Windows drives would stay mounted under /windows but have no icon on the Desktop. After the update, all these drives are on the desktop and but the only way to not have them appear on Desktop is to set Gnome config not to show any of the icons on Desktop. Although these are independent errors, they are all related to folders (at least indirectly) so I felt it was better to group them together to give a better picture of the issue.
Take a look at the "screen shot attachment" you will notice that I have multiple listings for the HD - WIN_XP, WIN_7 and GAMES. I was checking out both NTFS CONFIGURATION TOOL and MOUNTMANAGER. I Removed MOUNTMANAGER but the multiple listings remain? I would like to have the ability to Mount and Unmount any drive from the File Manager except ARCHIVE this drive I need to mount as Ubuntu Boots up.

Is there something weird about the FLOPPY DRIVE on F12? Nothing associated with it works & I can't get an icon for it. Also the FLOPPY FORMATTER no longer works. (mine is an internal drive)- I had some really miner quirks with it in 10 but it worked. I had some workaround launchers that I used until an upgrade semi-fixed it. (It would give a false error that it couldn't run but did. I just ignored it.)
I tried to edit FSTAB to cure a problem of my BACKUP drive showing up twice*** so while I was in there I added the stuff for the floppy & it still doesn't work. If I try to mount it manually, I get the error that /dev/fd0 doesn't exist.I tried to find some info on it & it SEEMS that there MAY be a bug but I'm not sure as the info is a bit confusing as to just what version & such they are talking about. And there was also the problem that all the stuff seemed to be OLD or not related to my problem.I why I quite hacking at my system, is that all my workaround launchers & the formatter say that there are GNOME things missing & they can't run. So I figure that there is something missing or screwy already & that I'd better ask BEFORE I make things worse or actually break something.With the fact that floppies are about gone, it's getting to be not that big of a deal but I still find myself having to use them for repair purposes (albeit, not as much) & it gets to be a bit of a pain to fire up M$ just to do something like this.
*** It appears that the one in FSTAB was the one I needed, so where would the OTHER one be so I can get rid of it? Or at least make it auto mount.

I am having a Promise TX4650 RAID controller & trying to create a driver floppy for installing the drivers. Also am using RHEL 5, I can create the driver floppy, but when I type "mount /dev/fd0 /media/floppy" I get error: "mount: mount point /media/floppy does not exist".Can I get the files in a format other than the ext2 floppy image, so that we do not need to use a floppy drive?There is a readme file inside the driver archive & you can use that as a reference.

There used to be an option under "Change Desktop Background", but it's no longer there. I checked gconf-editor and can't find an entry under metacity.

It booted OK, I checked for updates, applied them, and then my problems started.When I boot now I get LONG delays after logging in and eventually will get the following error:

I uninstalled xmms player quite a long time ago. I think when I had hardy heron. Currently I'm on 10.04. When I right click a .mp3 file I still have the option to play with xmms player showing up. Even if I choose an "other application" the xmms player option remains stickied to the top.Does anyone know how I can remove this entry? I did a lot of searching but couldn't find a solution.

I use Squeeze and when I right-clic on a file there is a lot of clutter in the contextual menu. I want to remove some of these choices (send the file to someone, sign this file, encrypt this file, etc).
