Jul 10, 2010Is there a way to get rid of the floppy entry in the Places? This is not the bookmarks area (which is below) so I can't just right-click and remove or remove it from Bookmarks spot. I already tried commenting the floppy in fstab and then removed the entire line to no avail. Floppy drive is disabled in the Bios, I haven't had a floppy drive in 10+ years.

There used to be an option under "Change Desktop Background", but it's no longer there. I checked gconf-editor and can't find an entry under metacity.
Any idea how to remove the text next to the toolbar icons in Gnome (nautilus) in Ubuntu 10.10?

Feb 15, 2010My part time hobby PC, running FC12, has started misbehaving following some recent updates. I hadn't booted the machine for about 10 days. It booted OK, I checked for updates, applied them, and then my problems started.When I boot now I get LONG delays after logging in and eventually will get the following error:

I was thinking I'd pull the drive from the server and build a separate machine that has it's own os installed and the source and destination drive. Does anyone know of any linux tools will will do a full drive copy? Additionally, If possible, I'd like to move to a larger drive. how I'd migrate the 120 drive to a 400 or so? 1 idea I have is to install os on 2 new drives to where it they will boot, Then boot with one and copy source to the newly created destination drive.

There is a /media/cdrom entry, but nothing in it, even with a DVD in the drive. When I type "sudo blkid," there is no entry for the DVD drive. May 8, 2010After using "safely remove drive" on a usb drive automatically mounted (in lucid lynx) i no longer have the ability to remount that drive without cycling its power.I don't know if it has anything to do with removing the "unmount" option from nautilus in favor of cleaning up menu.Anyway I didnt see any forum posts on the issue ---ps. anyone have trouble using a proprietary gfx driver (nvidia for me), a custom console resolution (specified by grub), and the splash screen - when trying to access the ctrl-alt-function tty's?seems the resolution is all screwed up or something and i cant see the login prompt. disabling splash via grub fixed it fine (EDIT - did not fix it)
