I want to save streaming music into hard disk. I know mplayer/vlc can do that. But mplayer/vlc stores as a single large file. What i want is to save every songs separately. Is it possible?

Naturally I only run Linux based operating systems on my computers so I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good piece of hardware for recording 8-16 tracks that fully supports Linux. View 2 Replies View Relatedmy problem is regarding .asx live streams. Up till 2-3 weeks ago I was able to listen to [URL] perfectly well with Totem under Ubuntu 9.10.
Since then whenever I want to start the stream, Totem darkens and nothing happens. I've tried Mplayer and VLC as well but neither of them work (but that's not news because they didn't work when Totem did either).
I had a look at the recent package updates in Synaptic to see if any audio-related ones had been changed and I have downgraded libaudiofile0 (to version 0.2.6-7ubuntu2) and gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad (to version 0.10.14-4ubuntu1). The problem still remained, so I updated them again.
The radio chanel works perfectly under Windows, and other .asx streams (for example [URL]) are working fine with Totem in Ubuntu.
I'd love to listen to a local radio station while working, but my problem is I can't seem to stream it at all.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 running Windows 7 64bits and Ubuntu 10.04 64bits. My problem is that when I'm connected to my wireless router the connection crashes when I watch a live stream video such ..... or something else. It does not happen when I'm connected via cable to the router nor in Windows 7 when I'm connected via wifi.

Zoneminder seems to start fine but I can't get it to stream video.

Trying to stream a live video feed from Rock am Ring which is available via the German SWR3 TV website. Trouble is, I am in the UK and it seems to only be avaialable to German IP addresses. Have tried various German web proxies, but to no avail. I suspect the service provider knows about them all and is stopping them also. Getting the error from the server, Server Error The connection to the streaming server has been disconnected. Any networking gurus out there who may know a way around this.

My problem is that they all have randomly numbered names, then there is a duplicate of the file that is random numbers then the letter a right before the .jpg.for example, there would be 123.jpg and 123a.jpg, where 123a.jpg is just a resized version of 123. What i'd like to do but have NO clue how to, is to have a script or something go through my Pictures folder, then copy the ones that end in a.jpg to a folder called Resized, and ones that dont have that to a folder called Originals. That way my Pictures folder will be in tact, and i'll have copies of them all separated out.I have to do this all through the CLI on a machine, maybe I dont even need a script and can just do it with a slick command?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have 2 routers, each are assigning IP with DHCP on. One router is plugged into cable modem second router is downstairs plugged into first router. Wire runs in WAN of second router. Each router has its own IP subset. First router assigns IP's to 192.168.1.xxx second router IP's to 10.0.0.xxx
I know I can use the second router as an AP with DHCP OFF. BIG BUT though is my wifi verizon phone got no IP assigned when running like that and wirelessly connecting to the second router. Laptops were just fine. SO, I reconfigured second router with its own subset IP being handed out. Now verizon phone is perfect.
How can I share files between connected PC's using it this way?
I streamed video through a my computer with mediatomb yesterday. The problem is that now, I got these huge log files. I am running out of memory (less than 1 gb left) as we speak. They're filled with ufw entries, but my question is:
I read somewhere about a program called logrotate that were supposed to keep logs from getting to big, is this wrong and should mediatomb generate 3 separate log files with 5gb of data each for just 2 hours of streaming?
First let me preface this with saying that I have been googling, and trolling boards trying to find a solution, tutorials, any thing to help me what I am trying to do, all day (since 8 am, when I started work, till now 3:50 pm) and I have found little to improve my situation.My goal is to setup my desktop (running Fedora core 12) as a server that can be accessed from anywhere. I would like to be able to have streaming music (find a song, or an album, you want to listen to, click and play) from any location, any computer, and I would also like to store files and such that I could also share with whomever I give permission. I have found plenty of tutorials helping with Apache and SSH, so anything along those lines would be nice.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm working on some scheduled task script files to keep nightly backups of some of our database information in place, and it's a bit annoying when they blow up. I know how to redirect stdout and stderr to a flat file I can view when I come in, and I know that 2>&1 maps them both to the same file (whatever was named in 1). However, I'm running into some cron-time situations where it's easier to have the two streams together, and other cron-time situations where it's easier to have them separated. I can't really tell which is going to happen; is there some way I could create both kinds of output file for my scripts, so that I've got a std_err only file and an interleaved std_out/std_err file?
Note: I've looked at the 'tee' command, but I don't think it will work for what I'm after. 'tee' appears to only work with stdout; I'm trying to work with stderr.
I have configured dovecot to use separate user and password file. Can I tell endmail to use it too? If not, then does postfix can this?

I made a bzip2 file by
bzip2 -c /home/os/picture1 > /home/os/Desktop/pic.image
bzip2 -c /home/os/picture2 >> /home/os/Desktop/pic.image
But now extracting pic.image by bzip2 -d /home/os/Desktop/pic.image returns
bzip2: Can't guess original name for pic.image -- using pic.image.out
And then it just creates one file pic.image.out.
How do I access picture1 and picture2 from pic.image?

B. What is the best format for audio and video files that will be viewed variously on Linux, Mac, and Microsoft operating systems? Files will need to be played on older versions of operating systems and may need a free or very low cost software to play (e.g. play on Win2k)
C. What software is best for recording the audio or audio-video files? Some additional funding might be justified for this software, particularly if it can also support live streaming.
D. What software is best for live streaming both on the file creation and the listening-viewing sides of the process?
Ideally we would like to have a single software suite to live stream, and make downloadable audio or audio-video files for later download, and not require those listening and viewing to have to install additional software. Keeping file sizes small is also desirable because some of our users will probably only have dial-up internet.
I can't boot into Ubuntu 10.04. Because of this problem. [URL] ppl have told me to ditch wubi and just have a clean install so i guess i will since it seems like the only option ppl are recommending to me. but i need to get my files of ubuntu first. i cant get into root.disk thu win7 so i am running live cd atm. but in live cd i do no see it also. where are my files?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am currently running 32-bit Windows 7 Ultimate, with a VMWare 32-bit Windows XP virtual machine, and I know how to use both OS's fluently. I have a 16 GB FAT32 USB drive which I use for document storage, to run portable applications, and to boot Ubuntu. I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 Live onto my USB with a 2 GB rw casper storage file. I would like to find a containment option where I can put all the Ubuntu system files currently exposed on my flash drive, into a folder, or a partition, where one click access to them is not available.
When they are in this folder/partition I would still like to be able to boot from the USB. I tried simple drag and drop of files/folders into a new folder within the USB drive, but I had a SYSLINUX error when I tried to boot from the USB. As soon as I removed the Ubuntu files from the folder I created, I was able to boot from the USB sans problems. These files don't have to be encrypted or hidden, I would just like them to be in a folder or some other container where they are not accessible as soon as you open the USB drive.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo my old computer died. I was Dual-Booting Jaunty and Windows XP. Now I'm trying to recover my files from the hard drive, but of course, you can't do it from Windows 7. I could recover everything from the Windows Partition, but Windows doesn't even see the Ubuntu Partition.
So I popped in a Lucid Lynx live CD to recover my files, only to find out that several seemingly random folders within the Documents folder have a cross on them. When trying to access them I get a message saying I "Do not have the permissions necessary to view the contents."
What should I do now? I really need to recover those files!
I recently have been trying out the Ubuntu live CD.
I have a shared computer where some are suspicious of anything other than Windows.
The live CD is an excellent way forward.
As I understand it Ubuntu is loaded into the computer RAM, thereby it makes no actual changes to the computer as it does not load into the hard drive.
I have noticed that if I have been doing work on the computer and forgotten to empty the trash, when I run the live CD on another occasion this material is still in the trash.
Is data put into the trash saved to the hard drive?
It does not matter to me if it is as long as I have deleted it but I would like to know where it goes if it does save to the hard drive.
I am running Windows 7 on a 64bit PC
