Programming :: Link Objects In Separate Directories Using KDevelop?
Oct 4, 2010Using: Open SUSE 11.0 64 bit, KDE 3.5.9 (release 49) and KDevelop 3.5.1. Problem: A singleton was created in subproject A, and so an object file is created in subproject A. In subproject B, I want to use that object file. We have not been able to find a way to link that object file created in subproject A with subproject B. Also, the subprojects are in different directories. We created a symbolic link to the ".h" and ".cpp" files in directory A. And the project compiles and links just fine after adding the symbolic link to the header and cpp files in subproject B. My concern is, that two objects of that singleton will be created. The whole idea of making a singleton is so that there is only one instance at a time.

Jan 20, 2010Compiz settings, my entire GUI would freeze up after the startup splash. It did the little ubuntu jingle and so on but wouldn't actually load up the desktop. I would've booted into recovery mode and deleted the settings that were messing it all up for me, but pressing ESC during grub did nothing! So as a last effort I reinstalled Ubuntu (Karmic) from the live CD on the first partition only, but I don't know how to make the second partition (with my old /home directory) the normal /home directory. The instructions linked above seem to require having done the whole process of moving the partition (so as to create "old" and "new" dirs, etc.).
So there are really two problems here: 1) How does one restore things to normal when a few too many cheeky moves with the desktop effects turns everything to pot? And 2) How does one reinstall Ubuntu with a separate /home partitions

But now extracting pic.image by bzip2 -d /home/os/Desktop/pic.image returns
bzip2: Can't guess original name for pic.image -- using pic.image.out
And then it just creates one file pic.image.out.
How do I access picture1 and picture2 from pic.image?

Apr 1, 2011I have a folder named Pictures that contains a bunch of .jpg files. My problem is that they all have randomly numbered names, then there is a duplicate of the file that is random numbers then the letter a right before the .jpg.for example, there would be 123.jpg and 123a.jpg, where 123a.jpg is just a resized version of 123. What i'd like to do but have NO clue how to, is to have a script or something go through my Pictures folder, then copy the ones that end in a.jpg to a folder called Resized, and ones that dont have that to a folder called Originals. That way my Pictures folder will be in tact, and i'll have copies of them all separated out.I have to do this all through the CLI on a machine, maybe I dont even need a script and can just do it with a slick command?

Dec 22, 2010I have 2 routers, each are assigning IP with DHCP on. One router is plugged into cable modem second router is downstairs plugged into first router. Wire runs in WAN of second router. Each router has its own IP subset. First router assigns IP's to 192.168.1.xxx second router IP's to 10.0.0.xxx
I know I can use the second router as an AP with DHCP OFF. BIG BUT though is my wifi verizon phone got no IP assigned when running like that and wirelessly connecting to the second router. Laptops were just fine. SO, I reconfigured second router with its own subset IP being handed out. Now verizon phone is perfect.
How can I share files between connected PC's using it this way?

Jul 4, 2011I streamed video through a my computer with mediatomb yesterday. The problem is that now, I got these huge log files. I am running out of memory (less than 1 gb left) as we speak. They're filled with ufw entries, but my question is:
I read somewhere about a program called logrotate that were supposed to keep logs from getting to big, is this wrong and should mediatomb generate 3 separate log files with 5gb of data each for just 2 hours of streaming?

Apr 5, 2011I'm running uShare on my Linux 10.4.2 box to stream videos from my computer to my Xbox via Wifi. As the Xbox360 can only handle AVI files I'm trying to write a script that traverses through all my media at;
/media/Media/
Looking for AVI's and then linking to them symbolically into a directory called;
/media/Media/Xbox360/
I plan to set the script up as a cron job so it will constantly keep up to date. This is the script so far;

and the only file being created is .DS_Store, I think. One other caveat I've not yet been able to get my head round, is that from time to time I'll convert videos from say MKV using mencoder to AVI's and plonk them in the /media/Media/Xbox360 folder, and so when the script traverses all my media folders I need to get it to not link to files that are already in that /media/Media/Xbox360 folder.

I have tried using symlinks, but they become dead when I move the directory they point to. I have tried hard links, but I haven't found any Linux file system that would support hard linked directories. How can I achieve that a complex structure of directories (currently with symlinks for directories and hard links for files) keep symlinks live when directories are moved?
- is there any utility that updates symlinks when a directory is moved?
- is there any Linux filesystem that supports hard linked directories?
- is there any good Linux interface to the new NTFS (the only file system I know to support automatically updating directory links, called directory junctions)?

Ubuntu Networking :: Mount To Vista Needed For Apache - Symbolic Link Not Allowed Or Link Target Not Accessible
Apr 26, 2010I have a problem where I'm using Ubuntu linux to mount a Windows Vista machine's USB drive and access it on the web using Apache. I did have the USB drive plugged into the Linux machine directly and that was working via the web. FollowSymLinks is on in httpd.conf

The mount works and I can see the files (see above) from my regular linux user account. If I make a test file in /mnt and soft link to that, I can see it on the web. So it's just the mount to the vista machine that seems to be a problem. It's supposed to be a simple read-only mount and the apache login should (I think) be able to see the same generic root access permissions.

The credentials have a login and password that matches a special read-only account on Vista. I can see the files on the system from Linux, but not via the web. General :: Ubuntu And Windows - Separate HDs ?
Dec 21, 2010Running a Dell XPS/Dimension 630i. It came with "SATA 2 RAID 0 With Dual 500GB Hard Drives." I have installed a new, third non-raided drive and installed Ubuntu on it.
So now I have Windows on the original hard drive and Ubuntu Linux on the new HD. When I get to the boot menu where I can select an OS, if I select windows I get an error: "No such drive, no such disk." Also, strangely in the first place, in order to even get to the bootloader menu I have had to disable ALL ports under the RAID config. Unless I do this, I will just get to a never-ending blinking cursor.
I have tried every conceivable CMOS config and nothing else works. Tried setting port 3 (the new HD w/ Ubuntu) to first hard disk boot priority. Tried disabling all other ports and enabling the Ubuntu HD port and vice versa.
I have some pictures of boot up: first one is strange error i get after messing with CMOS to finally get ubuntu install to work.

General :: Running SSH On Two Separate Machines?

* A static IP from my ISP
* A router/modem in my home
* Two machines: MachineA and MachineB connected to the router
Currently, the router is setup so that ports 80, 21, and 22 all forward to ports 80, 21, and 22 on Machine A.
However, I would like to be able to SSH into Machine B as well. What is the best way to accomplish this? I figured I would setup Machine B's SSH server to listed on a random port like 2995. So then I would configure my router so that incoming requests from port 2995 are forwarded to port 2995 on Machine B.

through a logged in SSH terminal, I want to be able to open an image in the console (runlevel 3) of tty1 (tty1 can be logged in or not, doesn't matter)
I have fbi installed for the console image rendering, but I am willing to change that if need be.

Nov 29, 2010I have captured a file in my linux showing logs captured from many modules concurrently. Please find attached a sample of the file. As you see, there are logs from individual modules that have been captured concurrently. For example, there are logs from IPTR,SNMP,HLR,TCAP,XAPP,and SCCP modules but they are coming concurrently.Each log has the header name of its accompanied module in the beginning. I need to have the log of each modules separately. Can you please show me the power of linux on how to separate individual module's logs from the whole?

Jul 26, 2010So I created a new branch from master and eventually merge the changes back, only some changes seemed to merge and it would seem I merged in one direction. Eventually I just decided to be sure master received all the 'experimental' changes then I deleted the experimental branch and made a new one. So this question is turning into a few questions suddenly:
1) How do I match up branches but keep them separate?
1a) Is that bad practice to not just make a new branch?
2) Why were the branches not the same after after one merge?
2a) Am I only supposed to call a merge on the one that I want to have all of the changes?
