Ubuntu :: Recommended Photo Slideshow App

May 25, 2011

I'm using 10.10. The FSpot and Shotwell programs that came with 10.10 don't seem to have any good controls for adjusting slide show display of photos. Could anyone recommend a good photo slide show display program that allows one to adjust pan, display time, smooth transitions, etc.

Ubuntu :: Digikam Photo Slideshow As Screensaver?

Apr 3, 2010

In F-Spot there's this nice function that shows a slideshow of all your photos as a screensaver. Since I've abandoned F-Spot in favor of Digikam URL...I was wondering if there is a way to do something similar in Digikam.

Software :: Easy DVD Photo Slideshow Creation

Jun 22, 2010

I've got a lot of pictures nearly about 1000. So I'm searching for a proper software to make dvd slideshow. First I've thought k3b will do the job just like nero but it has nothing like I've expected. Goggling showed me some like qdvdauthor, smile and manslide but they hang on my centrino laptop. My centrino laptop runs sidux with 1GB RAM. Is there any easy to use ,few clicks type of dvd slideshow creation software. I don't want the command style, atleast not for this job and I have no choice other than to switch to nero if there isn't any!

A good app that would allow me to select some pics (like of the Christchurch earthquake) that would make up a slideshow for a desktop background, instead of a static pic? I know Mac's have the ability to do this, and am curious as to what is available for Ubuntu.

Ubuntu :: Automatically Play Pdf Slideshow?

Oct 15, 2010

I'm looking for a script to automatically open and play a PDF slideshow. The slideshow is saved in PDF format using powerpoint. Are there any good programs out there that I can use to play a pdf slideshow.

We tried to implement this while in its original PPT format but there are just too many issues. Here is the original script I wrote to open the PPT file using pptviewer

Code:
#!/bin/bash
echo "OK, starting now..."
export DISPLAY=:0.0

[Code]...

Then using cron, the scripts are run at the appropriate times. Basically I am just looking for a program that will play a PDF as a slideshow. I will use OpenOffice if I can but I would rather not because we have had problems with it. Plus im not sure how to run it from terminal.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Picture Slideshow Desktop?

Mar 24, 2011

I just installed ubuntu 10.10 in a VM and went to change my desktop to something less boring and brown. I see in the desktop wallpaper program that there are certain photos that are in clusters (like you can click the photo and the next photo will come up and so forth). If I set my desktop to this cluster of sorts will it show me the photos sequentially or will it just stick to the first one. If not, is there a way to show this cluster sequentially in my background where it would change say, every minute or so?

General :: Record PDF Slideshow To Video With Voiceover?

Feb 24, 2011

I am looking for a linux-based solution that will let me record a PDF slideshow to a video file with a voiceover. Google searching mostly revealed PPT -> movie export and/or <other> -> PDF, but I am planning on creating my slideshows with LaTeX Beamer, and would then like to record a video of my slides with my speech in voiceover. Furthermore, I am planning on posting these online and would really like to be able to embed hyperlinks, if possible, into the videos as they reference each other and/or external references.

Fedora :: GThumb Slideshow Will Not Stop On Current Image

Nov 29, 2010

I started using gThumb for viewing images and it's perfect except for one thing. Sometimes I have many pictures in a folder and I want to interrupt the slide show to browse the net or send an email. The problem is that after pressing F5, the slideshow reverts to the first picture in the set and I've got to find where I was up to, which can be very time consuming. Since gThumb is now at version 2.12.0 it's absolutely certain there's a setting for this but, try as I might, I can't find it.

General :: Enough Memory - GIMP Slideshow Runs Very Slowly

Jan 2, 2010

Just wiped Windows on a Dell Inspiron 8000 and installed Ubuntu. Most things going well but ran GIMP today and noticed the dissolve very slow. Think I might need more memory? I typed $ free -m and got this:

total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 497 483 14 0 15 215
-/+ buffers/cache: 251 245
Swap: 839 43 796

I take this to mean I have 500MB of memory but most of it is used up on something? Does this explain why opening new windows incurs a lag of a few seconds and my GIMP slideshow runs very slowly? I was a pretty good Windows user but know very little about Linux.

error: unknown command 'loadfont' error: file not found

Then I have to reset my laptop and use Windows 7. This happened when I was using Ubuntu like I usually did and I downloaded recommended updates from Ubuntu. I downloaded them and I was asked to reset my laptop for it to be effective. I did and when the boot screen came up it said what it says above. I can't even get to the login screen. I've been searching everywhere for an answer.
