I've got a machine with an HD 4650 and the natty live cd ends up not in unity. I've got an even older machine with a radeon xpress 200 and unity works just fine from the live cd on it. Any ideas? I didn't want to install it; I've currently got lucid installed on it.
View 9 RepliesI recently decided to upgrade my old desktop instead of buying a new one. I figured I would go ahead and max out the specs on the motherboard while I was at it. I had a standard AGP slot and the best graphics card I could find for AGP was the Radeon HD 4650 (AGP 1GB GDDR2). So I ordered the parts and went on my merry way.I installed the card and did a fresh install of 9.10, hoping to max perform my "new" system. The card was acting kinda fishy on the live boot and I had to reboot a few times before it magically worked. I got installed etc and when I booted it worked, but it turned out performance was painful. When using Firefox the delay when scrolling down the screen was literally unbearable. No problem right, I used the restricted drivers app to go ahead and install the ATI drivers hoping that it would auto-magically fix things.
System booted but once I logged in the screen would just fill with freezing and garbage so it was impossible to get anything done. I experimented with all three options but this is what ended up being my solution. Download your ATI driver using this site: AMD Graphics Drivers & Software Just select Linux in the OS Select column.

I'm having problems with my graphics. I have ATI mobility radeon hd 3650 and I get an issue with desktop effects. They can't be enabled even though the card is supported. I had some trouble with installation and used this thread's instructions: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=9133906. I finally seem to have it installed and configured but I still can't use desktop effects. Also this whole process started because I couldn't get minecraft working getting the GLX13 error.

I was just wondering is it possible to install Xorg 7.4 on Fedora 12, if not what release of Fedora should I use (i.e does Fedora 11 support Xorg 7.4?)

I've got big problems with ubuntu 11.04 (32 Bit, on Lenovo T500 with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650)First of all i have to boot from the installation cd with the option "nomodeset".Also for the first boot from harddisk i have to set this option. I just got one to stick into an older box that will be going to a college girl that wants the 3D desktop in KDE. The built-in video was a joke and wouldn't even work without compositing. It was one of those crappy, non-standard pieces of crap known as a "Unichrome" (not the pro).

My System: P4@3GHz, 1.5Gb RAM, Fedora 12, kernel 2.6.32.10-90.fc12.
Faults: Screen refresh is extremely low. Glxgears outputs 25 FPS. Dragging windows around is sometimes really slow.
What I did so far, in hope of fixing it:
1. Installed 'system-config-display', for providing an xorg.conf
2. Did: yum --enablerepo=rawhide update mesa-dri-drivers-experimental mesa*, fixing this, but to no avail...
I cannot find any errors in the log...I don't know what to do...
I am posting my Xorg.conf, Xorg.0.log and Glxinfo through links to pastebin.com

When running GlxGears, I get a bit of motion, and then the gears freeze for 1 second. And this goes on and on. But...if I move the mouse around, I get 1100FPS!
Now I messed a bit with xorg.conf and the "SWCursor" Option, but the above happens when this option is on "true". On "false" there is no 1100FPS, only the freezing loop...
I been searching for months on how to get the s-video to work on my pci VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500] card. I found a site with instructions.
This is how I got it to work.
I install Debian 5.0 Lenny Desktop
added the Driver "radeon" to my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file
This work and I was able to use my tv as a monitor however when I try to play a video file from totem or vlc all I could get was audio with no video; These files work and played fine in the CRT monitor.
1. I didn't like the icon theme and changed it to Ubuntu Mono Light. But is there a way to get the Min/Max/Close buttons to how they are in Radiance when maximized, or is that dependant on something else?
2. Is there a way to disable the Unity dock, but not the Unity feature where the Min/Max/Close go into the command bar?
Just moved to Ubuntu 11.04 with unity and only have one problem...For most of my desktop needs I prefer to have the Unity Launcher up all the time (fullscreen apps don't cover it), and have set this option with ccsm.
However, when I watch mythtv, it is also under the launcher (and the top panel as well). How can I force mythtv to cover the launcher?
What I really need is a keyboard shortcut to hide the launcher, but the only shortcut is for "show launcher". (I guess the devs assumed everyone would want it hidden by default).
This, by the way is not my usual way for viewing mythtv. I have a projector attached to the desktop PC and it doesn't get a Unity Launcher by default (in Twinview), so no probs. However, occasionally I want to watch something on my computer screen, and that is when this issue arises.
When I put my laptop, a Presario X1000 to sleep that uses Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500], when it comes back up, I get just black and white "nosie" on the screen.
Even after I do cntr+alt+F1 and then cntrl+alt+F7 it still doesn't appear to restore the regular screen.
When will Unbuntu 9.04 no longer be supported?

When i try to intal or boot live (from flash drive) The screen pops up asking boot or instal. Whether i choose either/or i recieve an error on my monitor saying input not supported. I've looked for the problem on google. The solution is to change the frequency of the monitor. Mine supports only 75htz max and on the error message I have 77htz, what's why it's not supported.
The problem that to change the frequency for lunux i have to be logged in linux in order to type commands in the terminal.
But I can't see a thing, only the message about the mode not supported, so I can't type anything.

So hibernate used to work fine on my computer, but then after some updates one day - the option just disappeared from all log-out consoles from all desktop managers (xfce4, gnome .etc).xfce4-power-manager now says "Hibernate operation not supported" when I attempt to select it.
