I cannot get it to give me the "Unknown?" output. How do I fix my script so that it will give me "Unknown?" when I type in an incorrect prefix?
've googled first - but why is this in front of my username? (and dir) I have never seen it before but am new to terminal and want to learn.I am trying to rm the .Trash (some locked crap) sudo rm -rf /* isn't working and this weird 'prefix' is in front of every directory. Have I hosed it
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just loaded octave. I ran through a few examples of how to implement a script file. Everything works until I get to "plot". When I run the "plot" command I get the following.

error: can't perform indexing operations for <unknown type> type
sh: gnuplot: not found
Just to double check my work, I ran the following code:
y=[1 2 3];
plot(y);
I keep finding myself needing to type Unicode characters from the Latin alphabet such as � or �. is there any other way to do it other then using the character map application or cut and paste. It would be nice to use the alt - number pad technique from windows.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to solve this problem for DAYS now, without any progress. I've searched the forums for a long time before even starting this thread. So now I need help, PLEASE. I don't want to have to use WINDOWS in order to sync my phone with my computer, that's crap and there has to be a way. I have Ubuntu 9.10 and I'm trying to sync my LG Versa VX960V07. When I plugged it in to begin with, it was set on Auto-Sync Music, and the phone showed that it was connecting to the computer. I set it on Data-Sync and nothing happened when I plugged it in. I set it to Ask on Plug-in, and again nothing happens, and the box on my phone that says "Sync Data; Sync Music" does not pop up like it does when using windows.
First I tried installing a bunch of different music programs, Songbird, Amarok, K3B, etc and none of them work with my phone. I can't even install the MTP add-on for songbird, it's not supported under linux. Then I tried sudo apt-get install mtp-tools, which worked. Then MTP-detect, which showed no device. I also tried the command for searching for drives attached. And it did not show a USB drive attached. My computer simply does not detect my phone.

Installing BitPim, which does not support the LG Versa, but the new 1.0.7 testing branch does. So I followed the tutorial on that page, installing Alien and trying to convert the RPM to DEB. I don't even know what these commands mean, I'm not a linux Guru, but I'm learning. I tried everything and spent like 3 hours going through this tutorial to no avail. Is it suppose to create a .deb file where the RPM is? If so it doesn't work, and it won't launch BitPim for me. I have no idea what's going on. When I try:

The "error" I get, I don't know what it means, but either way, this isn't working. I'm getting so frustrated with this and the forums are my last hope before I install Windows again. I really don't want to admit defeat and use windblows.
I just shrink my /home (lvm2 / ext3) and next to a reboot df give me this ouput:

I have an issue where under certain circumstances images containing yellow or close hues appear bright pink instead.For this to happen ALL 3 of the following must be true:
1. The image must be a PNG with a yellow, orange or a colour close to that.
2. View the image using a gecko based program (Firefox, Thunderbird)
3. Connect the monitor (Samsung Syncmaster P2250) to the graphics card (GeForce 8400GS) using the DVI cable.
JPGs always display correctly, the VGA port on the same card is fine. I can even have Firefox and Epiphany side by side on the screen showing the same url and Epiphany is fine. I normally use Fedora, however with an Ubuntu live cd the images are still pink if all the three criteria are true.
I don't have any other monitors or graphics cards to try unfortunately. If it were hardware, then why is Epiphany ok, if it were software then why does changing the connection to VGA make a difference?
I changed the first line of /etc/fstab in an attempt to get rid of an annoying message "mount: unknown filesystem type 'static'". All I did was put a "#" on the first line .... changing the original from:

to:

# /etc/fstab: static file system information.

I have tried desperately to get to the file system so that I can edit that first line in fstab out but nothing works and the file system comes up as read only ...
The display under vlc is strangely colored in blue, or red missing. Anyway the balance isn't correct. I tried every output module but no one is correct. I am running 11.2/kde.

Lately, my rxvt-unicode has been generating this ~$ top 'rxvt-256color': unknown terminal type. Many of the terms have a colour patch. Where is the one for rxvt? Is there one in Debian or do I have to get creative?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently upgrade my armel NAS from etch to squeeze. During the partitioning step of the installation I intentionally left unmounted the data partition (900GB formatted XFS) but after the installation I'm not able to mount it.
I edited the fstab file adding the last line
And tried a mount but I get the message
So i noticed throught lsmod that I don't have the module for xfs
Tried installing xfsprogs but it didn't helped. So I searched for xfs-modules but seems it doesn't exists for armel architecture. Am I right? What does it means? That XFS is not supported in armel Squeeze? Assumed I can't transfer/backup 900GB of partition, is there a way to convert it on-the-fly to a supported filesystem format?

on my dual HD5500/GT940M. I can not turn on Nvidia. just install bumblebee and got the error "unknown header type 7f" if I remove bumblebee, Nvidia 340 loaded but system run on HD5500, no way to use Primus or to switch to 2nd card.

I had windows with ntfs I installed ubuntu. All ok. Gurb with 2 os, can ran windows and ubuntu and can mount ntfs partition in ubuntu I installed debian with lvm over ubuntu partition. I can't mount ntfs partition now, and windows doesn't appears in gurb

I can't active vg because haven't name, but is not lvm, is only ntfs partition Maybe ubuntu puts in lvm and grub? Any idea? If I change with fdisk to ntfs i lose all the information in the partition?

i am trying to compile kernel 2.6.23 on Fedora 12 After fixing a few bugs (getline error, %dil ,etc) i was able to compile the kernel made initramfs img using dracut updated grub and then booted up the new kernel 2.6.23 but it fails to boot with following error mount: unknown filesystem type 'ext4'

I setup scripts to take down and change the interface then put it back up but for this card it does not work.I have two other wireless devices that do work but i would like to remove then and replace them with this one.The other two are USB Wifi Sticks.I am setting this PC to replace a Wifi Router.

Running any freeglut based application from a terminal with Opensuse 11.3 cause that terminal to be spammed with freeglut messages like the following one:

I got it when I tried reducing the GRUB_TIMEOUT from the code above. I feel so furious now because I knew it was a bad idea to fix something that isn't broke. Can my Wubi install still be saved?
A directory on my desktop has recently become inaccessible. The error message that is given when I attempt to open the directory is as follows: Could not display "nikki stuff", The file is of unknown type. I brought up a terminal and did an ls -l on the directory, which produced the following: -rwxrwxrwx 1 nikki nikki 314 2010-07-26 19:16 nikkis%20stuff.desktop Unfortunately, the computer is not mine, so I do not know much more about how this happened.
