I'm trying to manipulate the existing windows from within a python script similar to the BASH wmctrl. I've got the basics down with PyWnck, but I need to be able to tell when a window is actively being dragged (or just when the title bar is being clicked). I doubt this is a wnck function. direction of the right python package?
View 1 RepliesI had a friend load Ubuntu on my PC. Everything work pretty well except i cant use the effects like rain, fire, wobbly window or drag my window into another one of my desktop. My comp has Radeon HD3100 Graphics card in it. Is there any graphics drivers I can dl to make the stuff work.
View 3 Replies View RelatedYesterday I adjusted the position of the windows controls back to what it was before, by using the configuration editor to set apps / metacity / general / button layout to "menu:minimize,maximize,close". At the time everything seemed good, the buttons moved, and it all worked. This morning I rebooted back into Lucid Lynx Ubuntu 64 bit, and now I find there are no controls on the windows, and I cannot even click and drag them, or double click the title bar to maximize! I checked, and the string I altered is still the same. I can still move windows with Alt-F7 and the mouse, and can resize by dragging out the bottom right corner.

But I still want this window to be moveable, by clicking and dragging anywhere within the window. I would rather just use pyGTK, but Xlib is fine with me as well.
Is there a way to disable window drag from within the window? I mean, I want the window to be movable only from the title bar. But now even if you drag the window from the content, the drag action is fired.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Ubuntu 10.10 with Gnome 2.30.2 desktop environment. When I drag a window it only shows the outline of the window while doing that. How can I change the settings so that not just the outline but the whole window still shows while I'm dragging it.

Bluefish seems to crash whenever I drag the side window all the way to the left. I'm using it on windows 7 mostly just curious to see if this also happens on Linux and maybe what could be causing it. That's the error message I get This application has caused Runtime to quit in an unusual way

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to stop my left click from moving the window. This is not Meta + Left click but just simple Left click in the area marked with blue. It happens if I Left click drag on the Titlebar as well. I have tried setting 'Nothing' for Meta + Left click setting shown in the image but the behaviour continues.
Is this a bug or can I stop this somehow ?
I'm fairly new to ubuntu and I've been messing around with customizing my desktop/UI over the past week or so and I must have messed something up. After I got sick of how slow Wallpapoz was to change backgrounds between workspaces (I'm using GNOME) I turned on the Wallpaper plugin in Compiz and turned off the nautilus desktop. That worked great for the backgrounds but now whenever I try to drag windows around the cursor shudders and shakes and the wondows won't move smoothly. I eventually get them to where I want them to go but it's very annoying.
So far, I have re-enabled the nautilus desktop and reinstalled nautilus with synaptic, neither of which did anything.
I've just installed Kubuntu 11.04, switched on wobbly windows effect. It runs very smooth on my Nvidia GeForce 7600 GS with dual screen twinview turned on. However, I get these lines when I drag/move the window upwards - see screenshot:

What I noticed, and am quite delighted by this fact, is that windows are draggable not only by their titlebar, but the whole area which is black (which means the "File, Edit, etc." menu is draggable as well) I noticed this behavior in all apps (ex. Synaptic, Evolution) except Firefox. If I want to drag its window, I have to click directly on the titlebar, which is the top half of the black area. I find it confusing.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI'm a total newbie in Linux and only have limited experience of programming - in Hypercard, Javascript and some Python on the Mac platform. Now I want to get started with high-level programming and scripting on Ubuntu 10.04. The project I have in mind is fairly simple: I want to create an image viewer window that I can bring up on a RAW image file in Nautilus - with the help of dcraw, to inspect the image at 100% without going into a separate application.
The viewer should have a button that if clicked, would then convert the file to a TIFF, again using dcraw. That's it, that's all there is to it. My initial impression is that I should be able to achieve this using Python and GTK widgets. Am I right? How can I find the commands and structures I will need to work with?
I work with python and I use emacs as my IDE tool. I have been running Debian Squeeze (6.0.9) for some time now with emacs 23.2.1 and ecb 2.32. I am able to access my python methods in the ecb-methods window with no problems. However I recently upgraded my desktop to Debian Wheezy (7.5) running emacs 23.4.1 and ecb 2.40 but I have lost access to the methods in the ecb-methods window. The window is just empty while the others (directories, sources and history) are all populated. I have a second laptop which I decided to upgrade to Debian Jessie, however Jessie recommends emacs 23.4.1 which is running with ecb 2.40 also. The result is the same as on Wheezy.
I have used the ecb menus and googled for a solution or even just a mention that such a problem exists but have come up with nothing. Either I have a unique situation here or am doing something really dumb.
I would like to upgrade to Wheezy or Jessie but I need access to methods in the ecb methods window. How to keep my upgrade and see the methods in the methods window of the ecb system ....

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn my previous versions of ubuntu(8.04, 9.10), I have been able to open applications and folders on one desktop and then drag and drop them onto any other desktop. I upgraded to 10.04 recently on two different computers and this functionality seems to be gone. I can drag around but the cursor stops when it hits the edge of the desktop instead of popping over to the next desktop. The only visible option is to right click and choose move to right or down workspace. This is okay but it can take several steps to move them diagonally if needed.
