View 1 RepliesI have a MacBook Pro 6.2. The touchpad works well, but I miss two things from OSX:
- Pressing the touchpad with one finger, then using another one to move windows around. Now I have to click with one finger, and drag with the same one.
- Four finger swipe for expos.
My biggest problem has always been with this touchpad. The fix that I have makes it so that if you click and drag, then release a finger too early, the drag fails. It makes it almost unusable. It is also overly sensitive. I was wondering if anyone has found a solution to this. Right now it is the only thing stopping my migration from Windows.
View 4 Replies View RelatedCurrently I can:
- Tap with two fingers to right-click
- Scroll with two fingers
- Move the mouse with one finger
- Tap with one finger to click
I can't: Place one finger above the touchpad, one below, click and move an icon or select text. Further details: Running Ubuntu 10.10 Maverkic 64bit
- I have a Macbook Pro 5.2

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx LTS. My laptop is an HP Pavilion TX1210AU (TX1000 series). After disabling the touchpad using the toggle button and reenabling it again, it stopped working. I tried restarting my laptop and the mouse worked again only up to the Login Screen. After logging in to my account, the mouse froze again. I tried making a new account and tried logging into it (I'm using it now) and it's now fixed. Does Ubuntu change any user settings everytime the touchpad toggle (on/off) button is switched? Maybe I could just reenable it myself.

I doubt this is a wnck function. direction of the right python package?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.4, and the first thing I notice is that I can't drag the windows to other workspaces except from the small box down on the left, which is too small and annoying for me, I want to drag the window from the title bar. I can't find where to change that in the system, does anyone know how?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn my previous versions of ubuntu(8.04, 9.10), I have been able to open applications and folders on one desktop and then drag and drop them onto any other desktop. I upgraded to 10.04 recently on two different computers and this functionality seems to be gone. I can drag around but the cursor stops when it hits the edge of the desktop instead of popping over to the next desktop. The only visible option is to right click and choose move to right or down workspace. This is okay but it can take several steps to move them diagonally if needed.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSince upgrading from Maverick to Natty (and re-enabling Desktop Cube/Cube Rotation in Compiz) I am unable to drag windows any more. I'm sure this'll be diagnostically useful; if I use the window context menu/drop-down and select Move, that also does nothing. Also, the window resize hovers do nothing, but the double-click full size|restore/middle and right click the maximize gadget to horizontally|vertically maximize do work. Further, the window management shortcuts to move windows do nothing. If I turn off Desktop Cube/Cube Rotation and go back to Wall/Expo, I still can't move windows using any of the methods mentioned in my previous update.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just installed 11.04 and I'm trying to set up dual monitors. I've installed the nvidia drivers and set the monitors to separate xscreen mode. It works fine, the mouse cursor moves freely between monitors, but when I try to drag windows over, it just wants to resize them to half screen. I've tried disabling grid in ccsm, and it stops the resizing thing, but I still can't drag the windows across.

View 7 Replies View RelatedThe GUI on nautilus is painfully slow to work with. Every time I drag and drop a file I have to wait for the nautilus to slowly shade the whole file window . . . . . . . before it stops and lets me drop the file. I searched for a way to turn off this "animation", but found nothing.
I've tried pcman, but it wouldn't open my files. Thunar insists on copying files instead of just moving them.
Just installed most recent 64-bit Lucid RC last night and after fiddling around through Compiz, I cannot figure out how to drag an open program over to the next desktop workspace.
I use 4-workspaces (4x1) and while running 9.10, I could grab the title bar of an open program and drag it from workspace 1 to 2 or 3.
Now I can right click the title bar then move to another workspace or drag the program halfway into the next work space '2', then click over to workspace '2' and complete the move. But I would like to be able to completely drag it over again.
How is this accomplished?
I started using Linux when Karmic came out, so I'm a bit of a decorated newb. Anyway, I upgraded to Lucid and noticed something that I can't do anymore. I have a dual-screen setup with 2 workstations. I can drag windows from one screen to the next, but when I try to drag it over to another workstation, nothing happens anymore. The only way I can get it to work now is if I hold down the cursor on the desired window and hit Ctrl + Alt + L/R. How do I report this as a bug if it is indeed one? All I can find is a link to join a bug fixing team.

View 2 Replies View RelatedYesterday I adjusted the position of the windows controls back to what it was before, by using the configuration editor to set apps / metacity / general / button layout to "menu:minimize, maximize, close". At the time everything seemed good, the buttons moved, and it all worked. This morning I rebooted back into Lucid Lynx Ubuntu 64 bit, and now I find there are no controls on the windows, and I cannot even click and drag them, or double click the title bar to maximize! I checked, and the string I altered is still the same. I can still move windows with Alt-F7 and the mouse, and can resize by dragging out the bottom right corner.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been using Ubuntu 10.04 (32 bit) as a headless workstation, running a VNC screen. Worked perfectly for about 3 weeks, then suddenly, I lost the Drag and Drop capability, for all applications.
For example:
Dragging and dropping to move items on the desktop does not work. The item simply pops back to the original location. Dragging and dropping to move items from one folder to another does not work. Same behavior -- the item just pops back to the original location. Dragging and dropping Bookmarks in Firefox does not work. The attempted Drag and Drop is ignored. Copy and paste still works fine. The problem does NOT occur when using an attached monitor (primary display screen :0).
I suspected that the changed behavior was caused by an update (from Ubuntu Update Manager). I confirmed this with the following:
Reinstalled Ubuntu 10.04 fresh from the live cd.
Configured minimal networking and installed VNC server.
Tested Drag and drop -- works okay
Applied pending updates (116) from Ubuntu Update Manager
Tested Drag and drop -- not working
I am using vnc4server and openssh-server installed from the repositories using Synaptic.
Since I installed Lucid I have found that when I drag a window to the top of the screen in KDE, unless I do so very carefully and gently, it maximises and fills the screen. How do I stop this pointless and annoying behaviour?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just installed ubuntu 10.04 after using 8.10 until now. I have two sepparate screens (NOT Xinerama). The problems is that I cannot drag and drop icons on the desktop betwen the 2 screens. On ubuntu 8.10 this was working perfectly.
I do not want to use Xinerama because it is not what I want - when I change workspaces, it changes on both screens, one one screen I have to click exactly on taskbar to minimize/maximize application, so I do not whant to use Xinerama.
So do you have any ideeea how I can have back the feature from 8.10 to be able to drag and drop icons from one screen to another ? I have a sepparate home partition and old settings were loaded into this ubuntu, i erased settings from .gnome, .nautilus etc and still doesn work.
I want to do is use a partition other than the one the OS is installed on for my data files. Before I installed 10.10 I set up a separate partition for this purpose and formatted it as ext 4. It shows under Places as a "131GB Filesystem". It contains a folder called "lost+found.
When I try to set up folders/directories to use for data using Ctrl+Shift+n nothing happens. The File menu does not have the option to create new directories. I cannot drag and drop anything onto it. The properties shows root as the owner. how to make the partition usable or direct me to where the instructions might be? After going through 400+ pages of a book on using the command line, I haven't found anything to deal with this.
I have a cluttered documents folder with hundreds of html documents. and some other stuff. So I went to list view, sorted that view by clicking on the type tab, then tried to drag the cursor over all the html items to select them, and NADA. couldn't do it. Is that a feature I have to enable?
I can do icon view drag and select, and yes, I could do it from the terminal with
Code:
mv $PWD/Documents/*.html $PWD/Documents/BrokenSites
But It seems this is like a pretty basic feature which doesn't work.
So Is this something I can enable? Is it launchpad where one can recommend / vote for improvements?
I can't drag a window in the expo mode.
View 9 Replies View RelatedFor the time being a "feature" included in Karmic prevents me from upgrading to it since it's release. It is impossible to drag and drop (URLs) across separate X-Screens.My setup is as follows (see also xorg. conf attached):: 2 GPUs with 3 Monitors attached (which excludes Xinerama and the like) Every Monitor has a separate X-Screen Whenever I try to drag an URL (e.g. a file form nautilus) from screen #1 to screen #2 this is what happens when crossing the border: The Cursor appears on the left side of both of the Screens. On screen #1 the URL (the files Symbol) stays attached to it, on screen #2 it is simply the blank cursor. Dropping the URL drops it onto screen #1, so the one I'm coming from.
