My printer no longer prints anything with exception to the TestPrint page.Any other job I give it, it says is "completed" in the queue, though nothing has printed. Installed cups again, after a complete removal. No change. Heres what troubleshooting gave me:

Trying to print from my laptop to friends wireless printer. I see his printer "7600 Series" in Network - File Browser. How do I print to his printer. I have text document. I click on "Print", but only "Print to file comes up".
I did System -> Printing -> Help -> Troubleshoot

The CUPS printer spooler does not appear to be running. To correct this choose
system -> Administration -> Services
There is not "Services there"

ok, everything worked fine after a fresh 10.04 install, and after some days now i suddenly got several disconnects from the wifi somehow (all other devices in house does not get disconnected, so its a local issue), tried to restart networking, and when i reboot, it works for some hours, then cuts of again. but, after the latest reboot, the sound card is "gone" i suddenly have no sound and a wifi that disconnects at will 13:24 everything worked 110% in all previous ubuntu versions

My printer is a HP laserjet 4 Plus. It used to work with the gutenprint drivers pretty much since always.I don't know when it broke, because I don't use it that often. I have tried with the generic postscript driver, with the gutenprint driver, with the j4dith driver and with the hplib driver. Basically, what happens is that all jobs never finish processing in the queue. On the other hand cups-pdf still works.

Now for the first time, after many months of flawless printing using 11.2, after installing 11.3 the printing has stopped working. I use the same method: Print via print server machine -> CUPS server (IPP) and I test the connection. In my 11.2 it shows "OK", in 11.3 (I also tried with firewall off) I am getting the following (I have substituted the actual values with xxx for privacy).

Printing was working without a problem until I had to cancel (rudely by switching the printer off in mid-print). Since then I have been unable to connect, through CUPS, back to the printer.lsusb detects and shows the printer is connected.

i'm using a Lexmark Pro 905 printer , it's a local printer with Ethernet connection to the pc.I installed the driver and this used to work on 11.2, now with openSUSE 11.3 it's not working. THe yast test page comes out but nothing is printed from open office.I opened port 661 UDP in the firewall but still no result comes from open office.I then added the printer in cups but i still have an error and no print : ( cups-1.4.4-2.3.i586 )

after looking at this thread [URL]... i found out that my printer is no longer working with the latest CUPS package (in -Current). I tried to delete the printer and re-adding it again with the same driver, but it failed with an error message: Bad device-uri "cnij_usb:/dev/usb/lp0"! I have tried to use the driver provided by Canon or by the automatic detection by CUPS, but it ended with the same results
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Canon Pixma iP4000. It worked in 11.1, and worked until recently in 11.2. But now it does not work. When I try to print anything with it I get the error:
"Unable to find Gutenprint driver named "Canon PIXMA iP4000"!"
I have tried deleting the printer and setting it up several times in both the YaST printer module and http://localhost:631/. Nothing changes. I am using the driver it suggests and the driver definitely exists. I have tried reinstalling all of my cups and gutenprint-related software as well. I am using an up-to-date x86-64 system.
I bought my HP P1102w printer specifically because it works in Linux, and it did in Fedora 14 after installing the hplip from HP, not the repository.
After upgrading to F15, the printer was no longer there. /var/log/messages saw the printer, but claimed "io/hpmud/model.c 625: unable to find [hp_laserjet_professional_p1102w] support-type in /usr/share/hplip/data/models/models.dat", which is strange because I found that exact line in that file.
Anyway, I downloaded hplip from [URL] and installed it.
Plugging in the USB cable now looks good:

I then tried system-config-printer and it detected the printer on the wireless network. (I really needed to print something, so I had set it up in a Windows XP virtual machine.) So now I have the printer displayed as a network printer, but it still can't print anything. The test page diagnostics spits out the attached debug log. The only thing that stands out to me is the error claiming that my HP printer isn't an HP.
Trying to figure out why my printer stopped working. I thought it might be a usb problem, but when I moved it to another machine and reinstalled, I have the same problem. I can configure the printer and queue up jobs. I see cups starting gs, but nothing going to the printer. I've installed the latest packages from hp. Used to work.

I'm in a bind and I don't know how to get what I want. Nmap shows ipp running cups on port 631. Great, simple enough I uninstall cups, along with its dependencies. A new portscan reveals that the port is closed SUCCESS, but... Ubuntu Update Manager nags me @ every restart about the "important security" updates. I can't lock the version of cups in Synaptic, because cups is not installed! So you see I'm in a bind. If I have cups installed I have an open port, and if I uninstall cups the update manager nags me. What do I do? I've tried:
- stopping the cups service and issuing the chkconfig cups off command... (doesn't close the port)
- uninstalling cups... (update manager nags)
- fuser -k 631/tcp (great, but @ reboot the port is still open)
Please teach me how to close this port / stop this service / tell update manager to shove cups.....
Today i made an update using Webmin, and after that php stopped working, instead of running the files it launches a download. So i checked what was going on, and php module was disabled in apache config. When trying to enable it, it said the file "/usr/lib/apache2/modules/libphp5.so" did not exist, and indeed it disapeared. I tried to reinstal php and apache (with and without --purge, through apt) and it didn't solved the problem.
Also i tried copying the file from another machine, also without success (this time it shows " Apache is running a threaded MPM, but your PHP Module is not compiled to be threadsafe. You need to recompile PHP.") Dont know what to do now, im kinda desperated here because this machine hosts my website =P
Basically what seems to have happened is after the recent Ubuntu update my Windows partition became unbootable (or maybe just removed from Grub). This wasn't a problem for a while though as I still had access to my files through Ubuntu.After a couple of weeks of using Ubuntu I needed to get into Windows, trying to (blindly) fix the problem I think what I did was open up Disk Manager in Ubuntu, clicked the Vista partition and marked it as bootable. Having done this some sort of error occured (can't remember what exactly) and after a reboot the partition is no longer accessible via Ubuntu.
I've read through a fair amount of similar posts and tried anumber of solutions but haven't had any luck so I thought someone here might be able to shed a bit more light on to my situation?Realistically, my main concern is getting data off the drive, if I can do that I can wipe the entire thing clean

View 1 Replies View RelatedIt worked fine with 8.04, although it wasn't as loud as it usually is with windows, but since I've updated its stopped working. When plugging the headphones in, a little sound comes through for a second when halfway plugged in, then nothing when fully plugged.
Any idea on how to fix this?
I've been running ubuntu on my Asus 1001ha netbook for half a year or so. I ran Karmic for at while, wifi working and all, accepted the recommended updates when Update Manager popped up and everything was fine until one day I let Update Manager do it's thing and my wifi stopped working.. Lycid had just come out that same week, so I thought "screw it" and installed 10.04 instead..
So I've been running 10.04 for a couple of months now, everything working fine, including the wifi - until today.. Update Manager suggested some upgrades, I accepted and *pouf* my wifi is gone again..
That's the second time Update Manager knocks out my wifi, any way to roll back todays update or how to the the wifi working again?
My mouse wheel stopped working after a package manager update.I'm still running 8.04 (yeah, yeah, I know, will be updating soon). I can't seem to find a "package manager update history" so I can see what got updated when I did that just today (changes can't be more than 24h old).I tried rebooting/cold boot just in case.I check xorg.cfg, but it hasn't changed since march of 2008, so I figure nothing overrode the config.

I have been running 10.04 in dual boot with Vista on a Toshiba Satellite A215 for the last 4 or 5 months. Last night I did a standard update and when I turned my computer on this morning I was given the standard prompt for Vista or Ubuntu. Every time I select Ubuntu the computer just restarts and gives me the same prompt.I have been looking over the forums, but most of the fixes seem to be done in Ubuntu, which I can't get into. I am fairly sure that it is an issue with GRUB. Does anybody know how to fix this problem from windows?

What happens is, after the splash screen, both screens goes black and unresponsive. Tried killing X and alt + ctrl + f1 etc. I can probably fix this myself if I could access the terminal but, the other day I had to be stylish and remove everything from my grub boot besides Windows 7 and the default Ubuntu so I can't boot into root terminal. So, how would I gain access to a console before X starts?

View 5 Replies View RelatedSuddenly within the last 4-5 days my mail-notification program stopped starting.Googling the error really doesn't give much help, it sounds like the same error message is in tens of libraries.Anyone know what might be going on?Running Ubuntu Jaunty, and already tried reinstalling the program. It's the normal mail-notification from the Add/Remove Programs thing.
Apparently it only does this when it tries to connect to the internet. It runs fine when I'm not connected, but crashes as soon as I hit refresh. (And also crashes at startup when I'm already connected to the internet.)

View 8 Replies View RelatedIs it just me or your update applet also stopped working recently? I'm running Factory KDE-4.4.2 and openSUSE-11.2. It's always "Checking for updates..." without finding any, even though I can always see new ones through Yast - Online Update. And sometimes it asks me to accept some key, when I click OK it asks me for a root password but after I type in half of the password it simply disappears and starts "Checking for updates..." again without end.
And YAST doesn't show any newer packages anymore but rather has "Switch system packages" on the top. If I click on that, then it starts showing newer packages and wants to update them all. But what if I want to use Packman's packages for multimedia and Factory KDE for KDE? If I select "Switch system packages" for KDE then it will update, for example, Kaffeine to KDE's but I want to keep it Packman's. If I search for Kaffeine, it shows no newer packages, but if I go to Versions, there's clearly a newer version there!
