I have been trying to import e-mails saved in a file with tab spaced values from outlook. When I import the files into evolution it puts them in my address book. I have tried several times and haven't seen any options to change. in the "wizard" it asks me where i want to put the files, but there is only one option.
View 1 RepliesI searched in forums but I couldnt solve my problem. I copy my pst files of outlook on windows then I completely remove windows and set up ubuntu. I made all my configuration on thunderbird. I can send and recieve mails but I could not import my old mails from outlook to thunderbird.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running Evolution 2.28.3 on the latest Lucid. I tried importing an Outlook pst file. Evolution obviously leads one to believe it CAN do this, otherwise why would it allow one to choose a pst file, then recognize it as an Outlook file, and give one the option of choosing which portions to import (i.e. mail, contacts, calendar, etc)?
So the first time I chose mail, contacts, calendar, and tasks. It seems to have imported mail and calendar correctly, but NOTHING happened in tasks and contacts (contacts being very important). So I tried again, this time ONLY choosing to import contacts. It went through the whole pst file again. NO contacts still. While it seems not to have duplicated email messages the second go around (and it shouldn't have), it DID duplicate all calendar items (even though I ONLY checked "contacts"). UGH!
It's one thing for it not to have a capability, but to make a person believe it CAN import all those things, then screw it all up, ... well, that's highly irritating.
try to get my Evolution emails into Outlook, I can now say that the whole process is quite simple. It seems clunky the way that I have done it, but it is free and it works!First download and this Free Converter to convert *.mbx into *.eml If the link is broken, it came from [URL] and you just have to find their link to the mbx to eml converter.
IN LINUX
1) Open Evolution
2) Highlight the emails that you wish to convert, CTR+A for all in folder
3) R-click and "save as" and call the file anything you want with an mbx extension (example: inbox.mbx) - note: you may need to save this somewhere that Win/linux both recognise as Windows refuses to recognise drives formatted by linux. ie. save on a drive that has been formatted in FAT32 or NTFS
IN WINDOWS
1) Open mbox-eml-extractor.exe (the free converter, probably in your downloads directory)
2) Click "Add" and select your *.mbx file that you saved
3) Click "process" and select the output directory (I just created one on the desktop)
4) Open Microsoft Outlook Express NOT OUTLOOK!! It comes free with your windows install
5) Open the directory that you saved the *eml files (the "process" ones) and drag n drop into MS outlook express
6) All of your emails should show up in MS Outlook express now
7) Click File->Export->Messages
8) You will not be given an option where to save it but if you are curious, go to Tools->Options and click the Maintenance tab and the "Store folder" button to see the path
9) After it has exported now open Microsoft Outlook and click File->Import and Export and select "Import Internet mail and addresses" and press next. Choose "outlook express" etc and follow the bouncing ball so to speak.
10) You have managed the frustratingly and seemingly impossible. Now if Evolution soon gets an export to pst (or whatever the extension is) we won't need this thread anymore

I have read nooks and crannies in the forums, run script files, incorporated, Outlook express, Outlook 2003 and 2007, Thunderbird and at one point yelled at my monitor. I have exported and imported .csv files, tabbed delimited files, comma separated value files, and then in the end a post from a non-Ubuntu page told me I could just import the outlook.pst file. Some of the above methods work to some degree. Others just trash my contacts. I have only 350 records to import. None of the above methods will import the address field for Home, Office or Other. They are always blank. Might that be because I ran the Ubuntu One setup files before I imported my contacts?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm a new Linux user and i've only dabbled in terminal, but it's been serving me well. Unfortunately when i added my hotmail address to evolution it deleted all the emails from the actual hotmail website and saved them somewhere to my hard drive.
At the time i didn't care but know i've got a new laptop and i'm getting rid of the old one(with the emails on it).
So my question is, how can i transfer the emails to my new laptop or back to hotmail? The new laptop has windows 7 and i was planning on putting ubuntu on one of these days.

However, i need a mail server that i will be able to get the functionality that exchange server provides such as emails (to my mobile, web access, and using outlook client), calendar, tasks and contacts. I am splitting a file based on the values read from an input file. The below one is the script.
1)How do I add the header which is present in the original file to the new split files created?(For eg. pharmacyf conatins header as table column names. The new files created (ODS.POS.$pharmacyid.$tablename.$CURRENT_DATE.dat) are without the header).
2) Also the script is creating 0 byte files for the pharmacyids which are not available in the intial file? Can this be avoided?

I have a Samba share set up on a SUSE server and users connect to the share via Windows XP workstations. On SUSE, if I create a file and grant ownership to "administrator" and give it 770 permissions for example, when someone goes in to modify that file, they become the owner as soon as they save it, and the permissions change to 470 (r--rwx---+) with an access control list. I want to maintain ownership of the file myself and I don't understand why someone changing the file is changing the permissions on it...This is driving me insane because every time someone saves something I have to go in and chmod 770 it before they can save it again.

A client of mine has a 7.7G .pst file, every time I try and import it into outlook so I can import to Thunderbird, it breaks due to the size, as Outlook can't handle files bigger than 2G. Is there anyway I can import this file into Thunderbird without having to use Outlook?

Specifically the letter spacing (kerning) is very uneven with some letters squished together while others are spaced too far apart. This happens for printing to a file as well (PostScript or PDF). Attached is an example (converted to jpg). Has anyone else experienced this? I don't know if this is an issue with evolution itself or perhaps a backend used by it for output.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently switched email pop3 client to Sylpheed. I need to import a large address book.When using the feature "Import comma delimited File", Sylpheed seems to carry out the operation and then crashes, closing.The new address file is not saved.
I see that this is a known bug in this version of Sylpheed, so I tried to install a later version.The latest version in the repository is 2.4.8-2, but versions exist upto 2.7.1.I tried to install this from the tar.gz file, but could find no effective instructions and no easy way to do this. Part of the problem seems to be that later Sylpheeds are written for versions of Ubuntu later than 8.04.So which way do I jump? Try to fix the 2.4.8 version? Or try to find a way to install 2.7.1?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've created a share using Nautilus on an Ubuntu 11.04 machine and can access it OK from both my Win 7 pc and partner's WinXP machine. We both have Ubuntu accounts and use those to access the share. When an Excel spreadsheet is saved on the WinXP machine the ownership changes and it can then only be opened read-only on the Win7 machine. A further complication could be that the Win7 machine has OpenOffice and the WinXP has MS Office. I'm guessing that XP + Office doesn't really care about or see the permissions, but Win7 + OpenOffice does. Should I be using the share with the same username from both PCs? Is my whole approach misguided?

Via empathy a friend sent me a windows folder containing jpg files. I suppose he just drag and dropped the folder into the messenger window in Win7 and sent it to me that way. I accepted and saved on the desktop. Empathy turned the folder into a .tar file. When I try to open the tar file I get the following error:
tar: This does not look like a tar archive
tar: Skipping to next header
tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors
Not surprising as it is indeed not a real tar archive. When I check to see which filetype it is with the file command it says -data. I've tried multiple versions of mount commands with various filetypes but I just can't seem to open this thing. How can I open this folder saved as .tar?
I've spent the day developing a JavaScript file when my computer battery went flat and turned off. On reboot I'm shocked to see the file is completely blank. Is there any possible way to recover that file? Firefox cache or anything?
