Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Access Windows 7 Share?

May 5, 2010

I'm currently using ubuntu on my laptop, and I want to access my windows 7 folders via network and file sharing...but there's this problem...

Everytime I want to connect to my Windows 7 pc, it will just prompt me a "password required for xx pc"...and keep looping on every username/password [afaik from the windows account], and I'm unable to login to it.

Even tho I've set "LmCompatibilityLevel" dword key, 1 or 2 [restarted every set] under LSA..it's still the same thing happens...

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Connect With Windows 7 Shares

Dec 20, 2010

I have a machine with Windows 7 Ultimate with several shared folders. Then I have VMWare with Ubuntu 10.10 as guest running. Samba runs in Ubuntu and in Windows, I can see the shared folders of the Ubuntu guest (read and write) as well. This morning I saw the shared folder of the Windows host and I could still open it manually in the Ubuntu guest. After this, I wanted to mount the folders permanently with fixed entries in the /etc/fstab. This failed and now I can't see the folders of the Windows host in the Ubuntu guest..

I have a windows 7 desktop hardwired to my wireless router and a windows xp laptop connecting wirelessly on the same network. I am able to ping the windows 7 box by its ip address but unable to do so by its hostname. This is very inconvenient since I would like to set up a share by hostname (doesnt change) and not by ip (changes occasionally since its dhcp).

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Mount Drives After Windows Reinstall

Feb 27, 2010

I have a windows XP Pro machine and also a Server running ubuntu, the server was built for me and the builder is no longer available for consultation. The server drives which were on my desktop beside my C drive were working flawlessly allowing me access until windows started running quite badly which meant I had to reinstall it. After the reinstall I could not see the drives displayed and I am unable to access them from windows. And also not able to mount them. The server has not been switched off at any time and does not even have a monitor or keyboard or mouse. I have not done anything to change any settings to it. I have zero knowledge of the system. My windows administrator password is exactly the same I have looked on the server and my files are intact I just cant access them from windows which I need to do.

I got the following details off the server:
KERNAL LINUX 2.6.27.5 - 117. fc10.i686
GNOME 2.24.1
MEMORY 881.4 MiB
Processor AMD LE 1620
Samba Server Version 3.2.4-0 fc10

I was told the drives should appear on their own but that's not happening I am not able to sight them at all file sharing and printer sharing is enabled.

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Windows Network Via File Browser

Aug 11, 2010

I am new to Linux and decided on trying out Ubuntu. Love it so far. Running Ubuntu 64-bit 10.04 on a Toshiva Satellite L300. Network browsing worked fine to both my other machines (one running XP, the other Win7). The next day I switched the laptop on, the other two systems don't show automatically in the File Browser under Network like they used to. It now only shows a Windows Network icon which, when I click on it, gives the following error: Unable to mount location, Failed to retrieve share list from server. I can access the machines' shared folders perfectly through the terminal using smbclient.

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Turn Wifi On After Windows Hibernate

Sep 1, 2011

I own an Acer Aspire 5552g. I have installed 2 systems on it: Windows 7 and ubuntu 10.10. Everything works fine except wifi. There is a lot of threads connected to this topic, but none has solved my problem yet. The problem occurs when I hibernate Windows and then load ubuntu - I get unable to turn wifi on. As rfkill says - it is hard blocked. It wouldn't be a problem if i had a hard switch for wifi. but I only have fn+F3 for that, which somehow fails to work in my situation.

Code:

igor@igor-Aspire-5552G:~$ rfkill list
1: phy1: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: yes

If I reboot Windows and then start ubuntu - everything's fine and working. fn+F3 turns wifi on and off as expected. I will provide some more info: when wifi's working:

Code:

igor@igor-Aspire-5552G:/sys/class/rfkill/rfkill1$ cat state

1 when it doesn't:

Code:

igor@igor-Aspire-5552G:/sys/class/rfkill/rfkill1$ cat state

2 some additional info:

Code:

Networking :: Unable To Connect To Windows IP On Network

Feb 14, 2010

I have a network of 5 Windows Machines and 1 Linux Server. I created a Filemaker Pro Database on a windows machine and share it with the other machines through web publishing (only locally). - On any Internet browser, they only have to go the IP of the computer hosting the database - http://192.168.1.99:120 to enter & use the database, and all the other windows machines connect perfectly.

However, when I type the same IP(+port No.) into Firefox on my Linux computer, it can't reach the windows computer with the database (It just times out). Is there a firewall preventing it from connecting to other computers on the network, or do I need to update firefox or run another Internet browser or install Samba? I don't have much experience with Linux, as a programmer set the server up for me, so a simple solution with as little programming as possible would be fantastic.

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Access Windows Shares On An All Lucid Network

Oct 26, 2010

I marked this solved when I discovered, after much reconfiguring, I had a faulty Netgear router - I just thought I'd save you reading all this to find the answer.I have 3 machines at home all running Lucid. All have Samba and shared folders but I can't access files on any machine from any other. This worked ok when they were running Karmic. I'm also unable to set up printing across the network from the two machines without local printers. The main machine has 2 printers connected via USB, the others are using WiFi. I'm not using firewalls on any machine.

Filesharing
On any machine I go to Places, Network and Nautilus opens at network:/// and shows me 'Windows Network' I open that and see the Workgroup folder which I open and see the folder is empty. (I did see the 3 machines before I completely removed Samba and re-installed a few minutes ago)

Printing
On one of the remote machines I go to Add Printer, Select Device, Network Printer, Windows Printer via Samba, Browse but I can't see the machine with the printers attached in the Workgroup. Another clue is that when I look at the printer properties, policies on the main machine all 3 boxes are ticked, Enabled, Accepting jobs (but it says Not published) and Shared.

Fedora Networking :: Unable To Mount Windows Shares

Mar 2, 2010

I am unable to mount Windows shares on Fedora 12. From Nautilus, I can navigate to the shares, but when I attempt to open one I get a dialog "Password required for share ... on ..." asking for username (prepopulated with my username), domain (prepopulated with MYGROUP) and password. I have the same username on the Windows box, but when I enter the password and click Connect, the dialog just pops up again. I'm not sure what "domain" is, tried with my Windows workgroup name, no good. If I blank out either username or domain, the Connect button is disabled.

I tried using the mount command:mount -t cifs //192.168.0.2/... /tmp/mnt -o username=adrian,password=...,iocharset=utf8,file_m ode=0777,dir_mode=0777
That did work once, but now gives the useful error message:mount error(5): Input/output error
Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)
I can run Windows instead on the client machine, and that gives me access to the shares, no problem.

I have libsmbclient-3.4.5-55.fc12.i686, but that was installed a month ago. I don't see any more recent changes to anything relating to the samba client. I've never had to enter a password to access Windows shares. Actually, it looks like the problem may be on the Windows side, although as far as I know, nothing has changed there. Using smbclient with debuglevel set high, I see failures with this error:SPNEGO login failed: NT_STATUS_REQUEST_NOT_ACCEPTED
Every now and again, I can connect to one or more shares, but after a few attempts, I can't connect to any more. Tried rebooting the Windows box, but that's had no effect. Oh, and "smbclient -L" shows domain as the host name of the windows box, but anonymous login (smbclient -L -N) shows domain as the workgroup name.

Fedora Networking :: Unable To Mount Windows Server Folder

Apr 29, 2009

I use F10 at home and while away from work on my laptop. Recently I could get the VPN sorted out ( I can now connect to the vpn (ppp0) server at work from home or anywhere else). I am trying to mount a windows folder that is on the work server on my F10 box at home through the VPN connection that is first established. What I know about the windws server

servername
sharename
username
password

When I try this

sudo mount -t cifs //pxxxx/home/abcd /mnt/dir/ -o username=abcd,password=xxxx

I get this error

mount error: could not resolve address for pxxxx: Name or service not known
No ip address specified and hostname not found

I think the VPN connection is established successfully. I have a ppp0 connection under ifconfig with an IP address after vpn connection is established. In windows I just map the network drive (\pxxxxhome) username=abcd, password=xxxx and mount the folder as "abcd on pxxxxhome"

Fedora Networking :: Accessing Windows Shares - Unable To Mount Location

Jan 15, 2009

We are using spare parts (Socket 775 Biostar motherboard, OCZ 500wat PSU) to build a computer that will just be another system in the house. I want this system to be running Folding@Home, and the F@H SMP client for Linux is much less of a headache than its Windows couterpart, so I would like this computer to run Fedora. My dad loves networking, and knows how to do it in XP / Vista, so he has always opposed my frequent use of Linux. There are ways of accessing Windows shared folders from Linux, but that I haven't figured it out yet. I want to access Windows shared folders from my Fedora 10. I don't know how to go about doing this, can anyone point me in the right direction? Do I have to install anything special? I can go to Places, and then Network (in Gnome) and I see "Windows Network", but when I click it, I get "Unable to mount location Failed to retrieve share list from server"

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Access Windows 7 Share From Ubuntu 11.04

Jun 9, 2011

I've read several threads on the subject but all seem to be related to problems I'm not having, or at least the troubleshooting loses me at some point where my results have differed too many times to ignore. So, I'd like to start from scratch if anyone can help me. I'm simply trying to access a folder shared on Windows 7. The Windows computers on the network have no trouble accessing it with the username and password -- both XP and Win7 systems are able to access the share.I can try going to Places > Network > Windows Network -- but I get "Unable to mount location. Failed to retrieve share list from server".I can try going to Places > Connect to Server but I get "Cannot display location "smb://192.168.1.8/". Failed to retrieve share list from server." (tried both computer name and local IP)

I currently have Windows Firewall turned off on the server for troubleshooting purposes.I'm pretty new to Linux still -- are there any commands I can report on from Terminal that will help steer me in the right direction?

Ubuntu Networking :: Samba Share : Get An Error Message "unable To Mount Location, Failed To Mount Windows Share"?

Jan 22, 2011

I have installed ubuntu 10.10 and the Samba addon to configure my shares to my Windows terminals. This is what I got

Firewall off (utf disabled)

Internal Sata /dev/sda1 (EXT4 FS)

External USB HDD /dev/sdb1 mounted at /media/SG1500GB (EXT4 FS)

I have two shares

1. //home/test - Which I can see and access with no problems (can't write to it though even though I set the share as writable?, but, I can read from it). This is available to everyone. My windows terminal can see this folder and access it. This is on my main 80GB internal drive /dev/sda1.

2. //media/SG1500GB/Music. I set this up for everyone full access and I can see it at all my Windows machines but,I can't get into the folder. Windows keeps giving me an error stating network path not found.I also try to access it via the Nautilus (Places/Network/system/music) and get an error message "unable to mount location, Failed to mount windows share". This drive is mounted per the disk utility.

Fedora Networking :: Unable To Connect To Wireless Networks And Unable To Configure Network

I just switched from Ubuntu to Fedora 13 because I was unable to get Ubuntu to connect to wireless networks. I tried everything suggested in help and forums, and kept getting "Bad Password" with WICD and Network Manager. Now, with Fedora...I still can't connect.

Problem #1: The guide says to "...make sure that the relevant wireless interface (usually eth0 or eth1) is controlled by NetworkManager," and that I do this via: System>Administration>Network

However, there is no Network option under System>Administration.

Problem #2: I open Network Manager, which displays a list of networks. I click on mine, configure it with WPA and the right password, and it fails to connect: "The network connection has been disconnected."

Ubuntu Installation :: Unable To Get To Windows OS?

When I saw that red hat needs an activation, I had to remove it from the computer, but was not aware of how to uninstall and OS. So, I went to the XP OS and selected the hard disk space where Red hat was installed and once after that deleted it.

The problem now is that, when I restarted the computer, I get only a black window with a message as Grub in it, Now I am not even able to get to my Windows OS also. Note: while installation, one of the option as Kdump boot failure recovery was checked as I remember.
