Ubuntu Networking :: Slow/intermittent Connection On Linksys Wmp600n - Wubi 10.10

Oct 28, 2010

i have just installed 10.10 under wubi, first time trying to use this network card under ubuntu. works fine on XP where it connects with good signal strength to a zyxel p-600 b/g router (my 3 other machines also connect fine to this router)

i am using WPA2, it takes 30secs to 1min to connect in the first place, then runs slowly and with intermittent disconnects, reports good signal strength in network manager.

i have been fortunate enough to have 3 machines that run ubuntu flawlessly out of the box..

Fedora Networking :: Wireless Connection With WMP600N Very Slow Or Non-existent

May 15, 2010

I have installed Fedora 12 OS which is using kernel 2.6.32.11-99.fc12.x86_64. I am using a Linksys WMP600N Wireless-N PCI Adapter with Dual Band card which has a Ralink chipset. I have installed the latest rt2860 driver which uses the 2.6.32.11-99.fc12.x86_64 kernel. If there is any other pieces of information that is need I can provide it.

Problem: I can use either the Ethernet connection which is built into my ABIT mother board or my PCI wireless card. My Ethernet connection works perfectly however; my wireless card comes up attaches to my wireless router; that's it. There is a strong signal, the WPA2 security password works correctly. I am able to ping my loop-back address and my DHCP IP address for my wireless card but I can not ping the router or anything outside of my box.

If I let the ping program run for a while and allow it to try to ping the router, after a period of time ~5minutes or so I will get several hits and then stop. The firewall does not change from my Ethernet connection to my wireless connection. The Wireless connection is a trusted interface in my firewall specifications. Questions/Thoughts:

Can I use the same OS provided routing table for my Ethernet connection for my wireless connection? Would the OS know which port to use by switching to a wireless connection (after reboot)? Do I need to somehow switch or bridge the port? Is the wpa_supplicant playing with my connection and opening it up and then shutting it down? Below are some netstat data: routing, interface table, statistics, and dmesg on the kernel driver rt2860.

Ubuntu :: NVIDIA No Audio And Linksys WMP600N

Feb 13, 2011

I tried out ubuntu and I was beyond impressed with this OS. I decided it was time to do a complete migration to ubuntu. I installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my HP laptop and everything went great. It detected all the drivers and my laptop is working in tip top shape. I decided to install ubuntu on a custom PC I recently bought (used for Java development), and that is when I started to run into problems. These are the specs on my custom pc:

[Code].....

I am using Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit edition on the system. First problem I am having is there is no audio on my system. For this card I'm using an HDMI cable to connect it to my screen. I installed the NVIDIA proprietary drivers and there was no audio. I reverted back to drivers I found on the NVIDIA website and still there is no audio. Second problem I am having is attributed to the wifi card I am using (I think). I keep getting this message on boot after post (and on the terminal after I switch off the X server by stopping gdm):

[Code].....

However, after the system boots I can connect to the internet.

Fedora :: Linksys:WL-N PCI With Dual-B.(WMP600N) Under FC10?

Dec 4, 2009

How to get the Linksys: Wireless-N PCI Adapter with Dual-Band (WMP600N) working under FC10 with WEP encryption and linking up to a 54Mb/s Network. Hardware : D945GCLF2 with Intel atom330, 2G memory. As I got to this in a roundabout way, I would recommend that you follow the following steps and see if somewhere along the line your wireless starts working.

1: Get the latest driver from Ralink: [URL] In my case 2009_0918_RT2860_Linux_STA_v2.2.0.0.tar.bz2 (the line starting with RT2860PCI) Unpack, read the README_STA file and follow the instructions. Do: make && make install After this I could only get a wireless connection by doing:

OpenSUSE Network :: Linksys Wireless WMP600N - Error Suse 11.2 - System Freezes

Feb 13, 2010

I bought the wireless PCI network card WMP600N from Linksys. I tried to connect with my router, but no success. The correct driver is installed(RT2800), the necessary package WPA_supplement is also installed. My providers settings are WPA-PSK with a shared key. Key encryption is TKIP. I can't choose TKIP in the Yast network menu. so i chose passphrase.

the weird thing is that the wifimanager says WEP is on but it's not, at least not in my router and i did not setup WEP to. see picture 6. i had to use manual boot "ifup wlan0" because when i use boot at startup the whole systeem freezes. anyway, when i use ifup wlan0 as root in the konsole, the system also freezes. i have explained it clearly, please take a look a the pictures.

OpenSUSE Network :: Connecting To The Wireless Network - Linksys WMP600N

Jan 24, 2011

I'm having some trouble connecting to the wireless network here at home. The PC has a Linksys WMP600N wireless network card, which works fine under several versions of Windows. In Opensuse however, I cannot get it to find the network. Even though my laptop is right next to it, which has perfect connection to the network. The router is a Linksys WRT610N.

I've tried running iwconfig and iwlist scan in the terminal, but the scan returns no results and iwconfig indicates it does not have a connection to a network. I've turned off IPv6 as I read this can sometimes cause issues. I've also tried issuing the computer a static IP address, figuring the DHCP might be causing problems, but all to no avail.

Ubuntu Networking :: Intermittent Wireless Broadband Connection Recognition?

Mar 27, 2010

Using my usb mobile broadband dongle I am able to access the internet about 25% of the time. I am able to make a connection to the '3' wireless network 100% of the time, but often Mozilla and all other applications that rely on an internet connection do not recognise that this connection has been successfully established, and give me error messages claiming there is no internet connection.

I can't discern any pattern as to whether the connection will be recognised or not. When it isn't recognised, the only solution is to disconnect and reconnect to the network. Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes restarting the computer fixes the problem, and sometimes it doesn't. I also have access to a wireless network at uni. I have no problems using this network whatsoever. Housemates using the same dongle on Windows have no problems. I'm using an Acer Aspire one, the dongle is a Huawei e220, I'm running Ubuntu 9.10. I have only recently reinstalled the operating system and have not needed to mess around with any network settings to get the usb dongle to 'work' the way it is currently.

Ubuntu Networking :: Intermittent Connection With RTL8192E In Samsung N150?

Nov 7, 2010

I've got UNE 10.10 installed on a Samsung N150 that uses the RTL8192E for wireless. When the wireless works then it generally works okay, but I'm having problems with reboots and long-running connections. This is different to the mass of posts (mainly from 2009) about the card not working at all, so I started a new thread.Basically, 90%+ of cold boots result in a successful wireless connection, with Network Manager remembering my WPA password.

When the wireless is up then it never obviously drops out, but I've got an app with a long-running connection that seems to disconnect itself occasionally. Looking at Wireshark then it appears that there are a number of retransmits, and a big batch just before it disconnects (which implies that the app is dropping its connection because it thinks the other end disappeared). Running the app on another machine with a different card but through the same release of Ubuntu and the app and the same router doesn't result in retries or drop-outs.On the times when a cold boot doesn't successfully reconnect then it asks for the WPA password, then continues trying, then asks for the WPA password again, then continues trying, then asks...and so on until I rmmod and modprobe the driver.

I originally had problems with the machine refusing to restore after a hibernate/suspend, but this was solved by a tip to rmmod the driver on hibernate/suspend and modprobe it on restore. The wireless will now work okay on some restores, but is more likely to repeat the behaviour described above for the failed cold boot.

Code:
$ lspci -nn
...
05:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8192E Wireless LAN Controller [10ec:8192] (rev 01)[code]....

Attached is a file with some snippets from dmesg around the time of the wireless failure, and the log of what it does after a remove and re-add for comparison of the "correct" messages.

Fedora Networking :: Network Connection Intermittent After DHCP Configuration - Stops Working Randomly

Jul 17, 2009

I'm having a bizarre problem where my network connection stops working randomly. At first I thought it was a DNS issue since Firefox simply chilled out on "Looking up [hostname]" until it timed out, but after further investigation (pinging IP's, "host" and "dig" being unable to reach servers) it became apparent that I couldn't even access the DNS servers i.e. the Wicked Connection of the East was most sincerely dead.

There are two strange things about this: one, there are no errors except "timeout". The network manager is happy, Firefox is happy until the lookup fails... Two, the failures only start *after* DHCP configuration. DHCP configuration never has any trouble sending or receiving packets. I'm going to try static IP and whatnot to see if that helps, more information later.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wired Intermittent - Firefox Get "Loading" Until The Connection Times Out

Jan 4, 2011

I just installed 10.10 (2.6.35-24-generic) and my wired network connection is cutting out. I'm dual booting with Windows 7, and it works fine over there. I'm confident it's not a hardware issue. It works initially, but after a few minutes (this varies) the connection will drop out. If I'm on Firefox, I'll get "Loading" until the connection times out. If I'm using RDP to a local computer, I'll lose the connection. When it happens, if I ping a local computer, I'll get:

[Code]....

So I'm getting a bunch of packet loss. Some of the time, once the packets do start going through again, Firefox will finish loading the page. Other times, I have to click on network manager and click on "Auto eth0" which will give me the "connection established" message, and kick the network card back into gear. Sometimes I have to do this several times. It never shows as disconnected, but this somehow gets it going again.

General :: Distorted Sound / Intermittent Slow Internet On Feodra & Ubuntu

I have a core i7 machine on which I have dual booted Ubuntu 10.10 and Fedora 14. I am facing a weird problem on both the Linux distributions. Currently, I am facing three major problems which are causing me to use my laptop instead of this machine. Most of the times the sound gets distorted ( like the tempo is very slow and some cracks), but some other times it just works fine. ( I experienced this on both Ubuntu and Fedora)Internet at times is very fast and works great, but suddenly it slows down and takes a whole lot time to load. sometimes it just never gets fast. The low resolution flash videos, gets this very weird high pitch sound

Also, I noticed ( I don't think there is a relation between the two or is there?) that whenever the internet is slow, the sound is also distorted and when internet is fast sound works great. The intermittent nature of the problem is making it difficult to debug.

Ubuntu Networking :: Slow Connection Over LAN?

Jan 9, 2010

I'm running Ubuntu Karmic on my desktop machine which is connected to my wireless router (via LAN cable).

I have two laptops on the LAN as well. One is my wife's Windows 7 laptop and the other is my Ubuntu Karmic laptop.

They both connect wirelessly to the LAN and all three computers have static IP addresses assigned.

So here's the issue. The desktop serves the laptops over the LAN with Samba file sharing, SSH, VNC and DAAP.

From the Windows 7 laptop, the connection over the LAN is fine. I generally use it to connect to the Samba shares and occasionally use it for VNCing to my Desktop's....desktop. It is fast and responsive.

From the Ubuntu laptop though, everything seems very slow. Connecting to the samba shares results in a wait of at least 30-60 seconds, even if they have only recently been accessed. Once it has connected (i.e. once the share opens up and you can see files) actually opening the files themselves is delayed too, but not to the same extent.

Also, connecting to the desktop via VNC is intolerably slow, with mouse movements being so delayed that it is almost impossible to click on anything.

SSH takes a long time to connect too (up to 30 secs) but obviously once connected it is fine. In a similar vain, FreeNX connection takes a long time to connect but once the desktop has loaded it is fine too.

I can use FreeNX instead of VNC but actually like using both for different functions. I understand VNC is slower than FreeNX but over a 100Mbps LAN connection I wouldn't expect it to be slow at all.

This laptop used to be a Windows Vista/Win7 laptop prior to being replaced with Ubuntu and it was able to connect to the server with no speed problems.
