I have a 4 disk Raid 10 with Windows 7 installed & working. (Win 7 sees this as 1 disk.)
I installed 9.10 onto a 5th disk, but I think that ubuntu saw the Raid 10 as 4 separate disks and wrote the boot loader to hd0- I had to rebuild my array & I couldn't load 9.10
For the second attempt, I disconnected my Raid 10 and 9.10 is now alive & well on the 5th disk, (presumably with the boot loader on the same disk). Both Win 7 & Ubuntu 9.10 now work but I have to steer to the required disk via the bios for loading.
I'm reluctant to play with the boot loader (GRUB?) from 9.10, because it doesn't seem to like my Windows disk array. Would something like EasyBCD (used from Win 7) be an option?

I managed to find an older version of the rt3572 driver to compile to get this dongle to work fine, and it did. After that I added "module rt3572sta" (or whatever it is, not on Ubuntu to check now) to the end of /etc/modules. However, when I boot up Ubuntu, most of the time the driver won't load. If I run 'modprobe rt3572sta' from the terminal, I get this message -

I have a:
# lspci | grep Ether
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 03)
Looks like the r8169 module that gets loaded is not a valid choice for this chipset. The main error that I see is:
r8169: eth0: link down
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready
I have verified the cable and it's good the windows machine next door is fine using it without packet loss.
The system is a HP Desktop, just CentOS 5.5 loaded on it (base, with no updates).

I have been having a couple of problems with various programs, and though I have read some threads that addressed the issues, they haven't solved myproblems.Keeping in mind for this, I have the 10.04 lucid version of Ubuntu. Now, a few days ago, Transmission decided to stop downloading songs. Transmission says that a port is closed, and I'm not entirely sure that that is the problem. Still, I attempted to go into my modem, and it didn't work. The page wouldn't load. I tried to get into my firewall, and I couldn't figure out how. A friend of mine who also has Ubuntu gave his Transmission a try, and it worked. When he checked the port, it also said that it was closed. So, I have no idea what the problem could be.Second, I have a Creative Zen Mosaic EZ300, and have been trying to get software to use it on my computer. I can sync to it, and add songs, but I can't delete or edit anything. I tried gnome, but it didn't recognize the player.

I have been using ubuntu 10.10, on LG X120 Netbook, for a few days now and everything was working OK. today, when i powered the system, i suddenly got this dos like screen:the last rows just kept going and going, wouldn't load ubuntu at all! after restart, i got few options to choose, but no matter which one i picked the above just kept happening!since it was kind of a fresh start, i just decided to reinstall ubuntu and save myself the trouble. i used a flash drive, just like last time. but again, i ran into problems! in the installation processes, it just keep like "thinkng' and nothing happens and it won't advance! you can see at which point it happens: I ran memtest, and if it matters anything, i got errors:but like i said, everything worked fine until today, and i didn't change anything! how can i fix this?

I recently lost the default panel from the top task bar, a message appeared on boot up saying a config file was missing or couldn't load - or something to that effect. I didn't realise to what it was referring until the computer (an Acer One) completed its start up and I could see the desktop
How can I restore the panel? (graphic from my other Ubuntu laptop attached showing the default panel appearance)

When I try to load the Realtek 8187 modules to kernel using the ./wlan1up command, I get the following error:

Can someone tell me how to correct the "Invalid module format"? I hope that correcting the "Invalid module format" error, I will not have the "Unknown symbol in module" error.
Note: I am using wlan1 for this module as I previously am online with the wlan0 network. The same error occurs if I use ./wlan0up.

I'm having an issue and I'm trying to figure out if the proprietary driver from ATI is actually getting installed correctly or if I'm on the open source driver still. ...and whether or not there's an advantage to one over the other...
I'm on a Sager NP3790 with an ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 graphics card. I've got a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10 and the basic 2d functions all seem fine, but any games I try to run with OpenGL simplt fail and "glxinfo" yields:
Error: couldn't find RGB GLX visual or fbconfig
lspci -k yields:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV350 [Mobility Radeon 9600 M10]
Subsystem: CLEVO/KAPOK Computer Device 0471
Kernel driver in use: radeon
Kernel modules: radeon, radeonfb
I have downloaded the latest legacy driver from ATI (ati-driver-installer-9-3-x86.x86_64.run) and I've not had any success running that directly. It appears to not knowingly support anything newer than Ubuntu 9.04. I have tried forcing that driver to build itself targeting 9.04 and I've tried installing the .deb packages that it produces, but with no luck there either.
If I recall this laptop's former lives, it has in the past run Eternal Lands without issue back when it was Ubuntu 8.x, but somewhere between a client update from them, some update from ATI or Ubuntu I seem to have lost my OpenGL capabilities.

The problem: I am a poor man who until today was running WinXP on AMD64 using an old usb wireless wusb11v4 adapter (32 bit drivers). I have recently installed the Ubuntu 9.10 AMD64 release. But I cannot use ndiswrapper to load my 32 bit wusb11v4 driver because of the 64 bit os vs the 32 bit driver. I can hardly buy a new wireless adapter. But I do not see an AMD32 bit release.

I am having a problem with this diabolical piece of kit on a laptop with Ubuntu 10.04. It never did work very well (max 800x600) was as good as it got.
It is now not working at all except in safe mode.
Th drivers appear to be there but not loaded.
So I downloaded a driver and tried to install it (sorry about the Portuguese but it is fairly easy to work out that it is a conflict with xserver-xorg-video-5):
There appear to be proprietary drivers written by a SiS employee but they are not distributed except to manufacturers[url]
Where do I go from here? I really would like better than 800X600, 3D would be a very nice bonus.

I'm trying to load RHEL4 (I know, I know, but I can't get around that) on a Panasonic Toughbook CF-31 using a kickstart file. I start the install using 'linux acpi=off ks=cdrom:/ks.cfg' (I use acpi=off otherwise it hangs at some ACPI embedded controller message). It does not recognize my CD-ROM drive, though, and asks me to choose the driver or point to a driver disk. I've selected 'Advanced Host Controller Interface SATA (ahci)' and it is able to continue on. It forgets that it was supposed to run off of the kickstart, though, and goes into the default graphical install. My question is...how do I add a line into the kickstart to choose this driver?

After a failed upgrade from 10.10, I went for a complete reinstall. What I'm seeing is that when I install the nvidia-current driver x / gdm doesn't seem to load. I get a blank screen for a bit, then it drops to the last lines in the terminal from loading up. I can ctr-alt-f1 to get to the first tty.
What I'm seeing in my .xsession-errors file is:
Code:

What I'm seeing in my Xorg.0.log is

I am running Fedora 13 and KDE 4.5.5 (approximately). My video card is an ATI Radeon HD 5750. I have been having problems with the drivers for this card (as described here), having tried both the open-source driver and the proprietary ATI driver.
Recently I tried to install the new Catalyst 11.2 from ATI. In the process I broke something. Now when I boot, Fedora cannot load KDE. It reaches the screen with a progress bar at the bottom and "Fedora 13" in the lower right corner. The progress bar fills and becomes all white, then the system stalls. (I can boot into a command-line, though.)
I have had this problem once before. Last time I got it working again by following Fenrin's instructions in this thread. This time it does not work.
How can I get KDE back and running, using either the proprietary or the open-source driver?

This generates a "Linux Printer Package Setup" pop-up screen.
The following error messages occur after I process the pop-up screen which specifies a default install path [/usr/local/linuxprinter] and asks me to check an "Install CUPS 1.1" box and a "Begin Install" box.
