View 1 RepliesI installed ubuntu 10.04 LTS on my netbook a few months ago. So, obviously, i had to go through all those wireless troubleshooting guides. Well, it didnt quite get me anywhere. I cant seem to find my wireless adapter. I 've tried lspci, lsusb, but nothing comes up. So i cant even beggin to fix the problem. I 'd appreciate it if someone could help. Maybe point out which one my wireless adapter is? This is the -lspci output.

Is it possible that ubuntu cant even recognize my adapter? 'Cause my wireless works fine on Windows.
I have a laptop and a desktop which on both I have dual-booted. On my laptop everything works great with the internet and such (built in wireless PCI). I recently installed it on my desktop and I have this old little Dynex Wireless G Adapter the light doesn't come on when I am logged in to Ubuntu. I bridged the connection between my laptop and desktop and still nothing, but bridging works with my 360.Does anyone have an answer?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently reformatted and dual partitioned to both Windows 7 as well as ubuntu 10.10. Loading works fine and Windows 7 is 100% operational. I cannot seem to get my wireless network adapter to be read by Ubuntus 'Windows Wireless Drivers' gui. Here are the steps that I have done THUS far, to make sure that we are all on the right path. Before I go any further, my wireless network adapter is an old school WUSB11 Linksys Wireless Network Adapter (running version 2.6).
1) Downloaded and installed "ndiswrapper" from ubuntu's main website. I downloaded the common, utils and ndisgtk files and installed them accordingly.
2) I extracted these three files to the desktop of Ubuntu and accessed the terminal page.
3) From terminal I typed "cd Desktop" to change the directory to the desktop.
4) Next, I typed in "Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-common_1.54-2ubuntu1_all.deb
Sudo dpkg -i ndiswrapper-utils-1.9_1.54-2ubuntu1_i386.deb
Sudo dpkg -i ndisgtk_0.8.5-1_i386.deb"
5) This installed Windows Wireless Drivers gui successfully and I can access it.
6) I have downloaded the driver files for the adapter from the cisco website and searched them for the required files needed.
7) After extracting the .INF file from the "Drivers" directory named "NETUSB.SYS" (I wasn't sure if the other associated files within the same folder needed to be present together with NETUSB so I moved everything to the desktop) I typed in "sudo ndiswrapper -i NETUSB.inf". After accessing the Windows Wireless Drivers gui I have noticed that the 'netusb' driver is present yet under it, the system states "Hardware present: No". This leads me to believe that maybe I installed incorrectly or my "fireware?" is not present? I was reading through the installation guide posted on the ubuntu website that in addition to the .INF file we also need the BIN file(s)? and SYS file(s)?.. The folder with the drivers for my adapter contains a BIN file but it is not within the "Drivers" section of the folder.
9) Upon mousing over the network Icon naturally my hardware is still not present.
10) From what I gather after the system finds the hardware I am to write into the terminal

I am severe wireless problems with Ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop.(Spec below)
I have just performed the first clean install since new. Installed a new Hard Drive as well. The machine and wifi was fine under Ubuntu 9.04.
It is booting much faster now but the wifi keeps dropping off.

I have a Belkin Enhanced Wireless USB Network Adapter Model # F6D4050 v2. The drivers are for windows but the windows wireless drivers app doesnt work. I see a tutorial for a linksys that appears to have the same chipset, but I am not sure if any of the steps need to be modified, also my kernel is a bit different. Here is my kernel:

My problem is the computer does recognize the wireless connections but when I put the wep key It just start trying to connect and then asks for it again, and this goes on and on and on. I'm pretty sure I got the key right so I have no idea whats going on. This happened to me to with the previous version of ubuntu and also with fedora and installations in virtual pc, or virtual box. Even normal installations with partition. This time I'm using wubi. I didn't get anything with the grep part, I must have done something wrong.
1) PC Brand and Model:
Easynote MX65 P 057
2) Wireless brand, model and chipset:
Using grep in lspci -nn I got this:

Just in case I'll put the whole information:

Ok, so I am needing some drivers and I've been googling like hell to find em, however, I can never seem to find any. My adapter model is F6D6050v1.
PS: when I try sudo ndisgtk it comes up with command not found.
I have installed ubuntu lucid 10.04 release, and i want to install a wireless adapter usb or pci in my desktop. Can somebody recommend me a model that works fine?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have tried a couple of wireless adapters (USB dongles) but none of them work all that good on Ubuntu. I keep loosing connexion when on Ubuntu while on Windows (dual boot) there never seems to be any problems, so signal strength is probably not the issue. I bet it's a drivers problem so what I want to know is which adapters work really really good/great/fantastic on Ubuntu? The first option, wext, was chosen when I installed Wicd (running side by side with GNOME Network manager).
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've got a couple of old PC's running Ubuntu but I want to give them wireless capability and move them to a different room. What is the easiest wireles adapter to use? I'm thinking USB would be easier than opening the boxes to install cards, plus I could buy one adapter and try it with both PC's to make sure it works, then buy a second one once I know it works.

View 7 Replies View RelatedMoving this to new topic, since it's no longer under wireless connectivity issues. [Noob Warning] I was having trouble getting Ubuntu to recognize my wireless card, as I have changed from the 3965 that came in my computer to the 4965, which added increased range and G band. Anyway, I read one of the threads on here, and this was the advice given:

I'm trying to get Kismet up and running with Ubuntu 10.10 and I'm using an Atheros AR928X, but I don't know what to put in the etc/kismet/kismet.conf file under the line source=
Do I need to install madwifi drivers, or are the drivers that come with Ubuntu sufficient enough? I've been reading other forums and on Google that I should put source=madwifi_g,ath0,madwifi but my device is not ath0, it's wlan0 as shown with the lspci command.

In some other forum on UbuntuForums someone said to make some changes under SYSTEM>>ADMINISTRATION>>HARDWARE DRIVERS, but I don't have HARDWARE DRIVERS under that submenu. I don't see an option for it anywhere in my version of Ubuntu (Maverick 10.10).
I have recently bought a Toshiba Portege R700-15Q and installed kubuntu 10.04. A similar problem happens with kubuntu 10.10 booted from USB stick. I am a long-time linux user but not experienced with fixing problems. The wireless network is not enabled and it appears that linux does not know that there is a wireless capibility. This is both with and without an ethernet connection at boot. The wireless light on the computer is lit up, but when I go to Manage Connections the wireless and mobile broadband tabs are greyed out so can't be accessed.
iwconfig gives "no wireless extensions" for lo, eth0 and pan0.
lspci returns "Network controller: Broadcom Cooperation BCM4313 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01)"
lshw -C network returns "*-network UNCLAIMED", along with a block of other information which does not indicate a problem to me.
Today I deleted Windows on my Dell Latitude D610 and instead installed Ubuntu 10.04 on it (I had a cd with 10.04 on it from when I installed it on my desktop a year ago). Everything runs fine except I can't get the wifi to work, and it won't recognize the driver either, actually it doesn't recognize any drivers.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI decided to install Ubuntu 10.10 64bit on my desktop computer so it would run alongside Windows 7.Everything works fine except I cannot get it on the Internet. I use a wireless network adapter (Linksys AE1000 Wireless-N) to connect to the internet on Windows 7. I have been reading forums this entire day and it's gotten me to the point where I'm about to throw my desktop out the windows!!! Please help me as I want to use Ubuntu. I have my Adapters installation CD if needed.I've already download the NDISGTK along with the other two things it comes with. I used my Ubuntu CD as a source to download the files. I went to System>Administration>Wireless Network Drivers, and I put my network adapter's (Linksys AE1000) software CD in the CD Drive. I clicked "Install New Driver and went into the XP section (as none of the others worked, and it says "rt2870, Hardware Present: Yes)
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get the above wireless adapter o work with Ubuntu. I have installed ndiswrapper but I am unsure what windows driver I need that will work with it.
When I type lsusb I get the following: Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0df6:0042 Sitecom Europe B.V.
I tried searching the ndiswraper site but all I could find was Sitecom WL-344 300N X2 Wireless USB Adapter that pointed me to Driver: rt2870.inf and rt2870.sys (on Windows XP).
I am not sure if this will work or where to download these files, so I was wondering if anyone else has this adapter that could shed some light onto how to get it working.
Edit: I just tried the rt2870 driver and it didnt work
My netbook have an internal wireless receiver, but from my room it doesn't work well, so I bought a TP Link TL-WN422G hoping it receives better. Ubuntu sees it but I don't know how to force using it.. I attach lsusb with peripheral in bold:
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've recently installed 10.04 LTS on an old laptop. I've not been able to connect to the internet at all. I finally finagled some drivers for my Broadcom BCM4318, and seemed to get everything in order, but it says that the "Radio hardware status changed to DISABLED"
Then, I pushed the button on the laptop to turn the wireless on, and it worked! But then as soon as I let the button go, it turned off. Is there some way to toggle it so it's always on?
I bought a USB adapter for my wireless connection at home. But there is no drivers for the adapters in ubuntu, there is only windows executable files. I am using ubuntu 10.04. I spend around 40$ for the adapter. Some one please help me how to work this out. Its NP910n netcomm adapter. I am using ubuntu10.04.
View 1 Replies View RelatedPreviously I had my desktop hooked up to a nearby router via an ethernet cord with my parents' computer having a wireless usb adapter to connect (This thing: [uRL]). We just moved and our setup has reversed (router is near their computer, I am using the usb adapter). I just installed the latest Ubuntu and now I can't get the usb adapter to work. I'm very new to Linux and I have no idea what to do. I think this is the same usb adapter.
View 1 Replies View RelatedRecently I purchased for few bucks on eBay a wireless network adapter with name "EDUP 802.11N". This thread explains how to setup this device on Ubuntu. I inserted USB wireless adapter on Windows XP and it was recognized as "Realtek RTL8188SU Wireless LAN 802.11n USB 2.0 Network Adapter". Windows didn't have any problem to install its driver automatically but for Ubuntu I had to give some additional effort.
After that I went on Realtek official site (www.realtek.com.tw) where I found that this device is supported on linux platform, downloaded and compiled linux driver. This driver (kernel module) is for kernels from 2.6.18 ~ 2.6.33. Unzip this file and in "drivers" subfolder there is driver archive (tar.gz).
Code:

As the title reads. My wireless adapter does not work when I boot from the Ubuntu 10.04 LiveCD. The adapter in question... tricky. It's this one: [URL]...- however, aside from a mention in one of the comments to a "Ralink RT2780", I don't see any reference to a make/model.
The software that ships with this product is indeed Ralink-branded, but again there's no mention of a specific make/model. So I assume it's just a driver issue, however I've no idea where to begin in my search for one as I can't identify its model number.
I was wondering if it possible to use the Xbox 360 wireless adapter on the XUbuntu system? And if yes, what drivers would I need?

I have spent many hours searching for solutions and couldn't find one for me (maybe don't apply it right - I am newbie). I have HP Pavilion dv6, dual boot Win7 and Ubuntu. View 3 Replies View RelatedI love ubuntu, but I don't know how to use a command line to save my life. I'd just as soon never use a terminal ever. My big issue is I cannot get my wireless adapter to work. It is a keebox w150nu, which is based off the Ralink RT3070 chip. I am willing to use command line to get this thing to work because I love ubuntu to death, but everything I have tried has failed. I have gone to the Ralink website and downloaded the Tar.bz file from there. t
The file I grabbed is the third one down from the top: [URL].
I have absolutely no idea what to do from there with the file however. Please understand that I have zero idea how to use command line in a terminal. What I have to do to make this work? Is there a usb wireless N adapter that works straight away with ubuntu 10.10, as in I plug it in before the install, and it is immediately recognized and works immediately?
I have HP Pavilion dv2860ee laptop with an intel wireless adapter ipw3945 on it. I recently installed ubuntue 10.10 on the laptop but ubuntu does not recognize my wireless adapter. I'm some how new to ubuntu but I almost tried everything that I could find from google to install drivers but they didn't work and wireless adapter is still unclaimed.
