Ubuntu Networking :: Reboot "looses" Wireless Device?

I installed Ubuntu 10.04 for the first time and had a few issues to put my laptop's wireless device to work (see thread [URL]I am now able to use the wireless connectivity but I still have a problem. Every time I reboot Ubuntu, the system does not seem to recognize that a wireless device is present. To overcome this problem I remove the driver and once this is done I activate the driver. The system then finds the wireless device, enables it and connects to the default wireless connection.

Fedora :: Network-manager Looses Connection When 'Allow All Users' Is On

Sep 17, 2010

I have an issue with network-manager. When I edit my wireless settings and enable 'Allow all users' (I have a german locale so I don't know the exact words but I guess it's close enough) the connection drops and doesn't reconnect. If I click on the wlan access point manually (in the nm-applet) it asks for my WPA pass. This is odd since it was already in the wlan settings.

Then when I reset the 'Allow ...' to off, I'm asked for my su passwd and the connection is re-established. Ideally the nm would connect automatically at boot if the AP is available so I'm not happy with the current state...

Networking :: Connection Destroy Time With Net Filter Connection Tracking?

May 13, 2011

When I have video running and the video stops, I see that the connection is destroyed in about 5 seconds, which is what I want. If, rather than stopping the video, I pull the plug, I have seen it take 350 and 380 seconds before the connection is destroyed. Why is there such a large difference in the time to destroy a video connection between stopping the video and pulling the plug on it when using net filter connection tracking? How can I shorten the time for the connection to get destroyed when pulling the plug?

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Dropping Connection After Unspecified Time

Mar 21, 2010

Toshiba A215 laptop
Driver is rtl8187
I really need to make the connection constant and non-dropping. I've had opensuse 11.2 since march 7 2010, figured out most of it by lurking and reading threads didn't want to make threads but I really don't know what to do to make this connection stay on. I am posting Terminal commands from when I am both on and offline.

How I attempted to fix this issue myself: I downloaded wireshark, wicd, knetworkmanager. Tried running all of them nothing worked. I went into Yast and switched off networkmanager and went traditional still nothing. Tried adding opendns to traditional. nothing. Went back to NM would get online then after an unknown time I'd lose connection even though NM said i was still connected. Offline running terminal commands from what I read on here in other threads and stickies

It occurred to me I may not have the right driver for use with Ubuntu for the wireless connection at my house. I couldn't find anything on the web to help..it appears I have a realtek RTL8102E wireless card in my laptop. I have absolutely no idea how to resolve this situation..I've looked on the web, but everythings pretty confusing. If I could get the wireless working it would be a good first step.

General :: Get Wired And Wireless Connection At The Same Time Using NetworkManager?

Jun 15, 2011

I have a wireless connection to the internet, as well as a wired connection to a local network. When the wired connection to my local network is enabled, the wireless connection to the internet no longer works until I disconnect the ethernet cable.

(This setup used to work just fine when I was using Windows, but now doesn't seem to work. I wasn't using IP aliasing in Windows, but I am now, which may be causing the problem.)

My original connection to the internet was a wired one, at eth0, so once I got wireless enabled (on eth1), I created an IP alias to my local network of eth0:1 which is a static IP on my local network. The only configuration I did at all was to add a file named /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0:1, with the following contents:

Code:

And NetworkManager just seemed to pick it up automatically - I didn't change anything else in NetworkManager or anywhere else.

(Also I use 'service NetworkManager start/stop' entirely rather than 'service network start/stop' to manage my connnections. i.e. I did 'chkconfig network off' when setting everything up initially.)

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless - Lost It - 'wmaster0 No Wireless Extensions', But Then Refers To Wlan0 As The Wireless Connection

Mar 28, 2010

A friend who switched ISP's gave me his old Linksys WRT54-G wireless router. I went through the installation procedure and had a wireless connection up and running - smiley face. I had security set up for WPA, and decided to upgrade it to WPA2. Another smiley face. When I went to connect (had already done so successfully), I noticed it referred to my wireless as Linksys - I was expecting to see the SSID. So I started playing around in Network Manager and now I have things all effed up.

Don't know exactly what I did, but now I have no wireless. So I ran a few commands (lshw -C network, iwconfig, ifconfig, and iwlist scan), and looking at the results I see what appear to be inconsistencies in the output. I've posted them below, and make the following observations:

1. Under the lshw it refers to my wireless connection logical name as wmaster0, and has the correct MAC address, etc.

2. Under the iwconfig it says, 'wmaster0 no wireless extensions', but then refers to wlan0 as the wireless connection (although it does not seem to be running).

3. Under ifconfig I see both a wlan0 and a wlan0:avahi. The wlan0 has no IP, the wlan0:avahi does, but it is incorrect.

Networking :: Use The Laptop With The Wireless Connection To Share The Internet Connection?

Feb 4, 2010

I have two linux laptops. Currently, I'm using both of them at work, side-by-side. Now the problem is, I'm connected to a wireless router, but the wireless only works on one of the laptops. So I'm stuck with one laptop that has no access to the internet. Both machines do, however, have working ethernet nic cards. So, I was wondering if I could use the laptop with the wireless connection to share the internet connection with my other linux machine and access the internet on both of them. Or as an alternative, just use the internet on the machine without wireless and be able to switch back and forth, that would increase my productivity like 30 fold.

Ubuntu Networking :: Autodial Pppoe Connection At Scheduled Time?

Jun 14, 2010

I've been trying to use gnome-schedule to create a scheduled task that would dial my pppoe connection automatically. For this I used "sudo pon" command (after configuring the pppoe connection using pppoeconf ). Although the command gets executed, but then it waits for me to enter the password. I want it to be automatic & shouldn't require me/anyone to authorize it. Is there a way to enter this password automatically for the scheduled tasks?

Also, I'd like to use network manager, instead of pppoeconf, for the same purpose. How can I set network manager to dial a pppoe connection at scheduled time?
