Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless DHCP ICS With Xbox 360 :S

Jan 13, 2010

Alright, I'm running Ubuntu KK 9.10 and I've probably read every ICS tutorial on ubuntuforums. I'm running wireless internet via a Linksys router and have a LAN card in my system as well.

(lshw -c network)

Code:

I tried the easy route with 9.10 (setting my wireless to DHCP and LAN to share connection) and although Ubuntu recognizes the Xbox when its turned on (I get a nice notification saying my wired connection is active) the Xbox gets no internet, and doesn't even recognize the connection. (when I tested the connection it failed before it even hit network...)

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Connected But No DHCP

Mar 6, 2011

I had the wrong WPA password.[/blush] It appeared to me that it was connected OK at the physical/datalink level but apparently that was not the case.I've set up an old PC with the latest Ubuntu desktop and am trying to set up wireless networking with a TP-Link TL-WN722N. It only came with Windows drivers but from a thread elsewhere I got it to where it finds my router and connects with the password. However, it doesn't pick up its IP details. The router is working fine wirelessly on my phone and wirefully on my other PC.

I've edited /etc/network/interfaces with "auto wlan0" and "iface wlan0 inet dhcp" but after restart the wlan0 interface has no IP details. Originally the interface had IPv6 details but I cleared that with ifconfig. Under the Network Connections Wireless tab it has "Auto" followed by the name of my wireless connection so it appears to have connected OK. Now when I click Edit for that connection nmame, the IPv6 tab says Ignore and IPv4 says Automatic (DHCP) but Addresses is greyed out and the other fields are all empty.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Bridge No DHCP?

I have it set up and it is connecting, at least I can see the pfsense router on the other side and ping any machine in the network.

Here's the issue, I cannot get dhcp to work across the link. I set a static address (dns servers and all) but when I try to ping google i get "Network is Unreachable"

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Connection Cannot Obtain IP With DHCP

Feb 16, 2010

I have router and wireless card Linksys. Driver are installed correctly for wireless card.

Using WifiRadar I can see the access point is detected.

DHCP woks perfectly for wired lan.

However when I try to connect to the detected access point the ip addres is never retrieved and the connection never established.

I tried most of he basic instructions posted on ubuntu forums, but the problem doesn't seem to be with basic configuration: driver, essid, wep key, etc..

The problem seems to be with DHCP not able to retrieve an IP address from the DHCP server of the router. Of course the router works file with other laptops (windows based) that have wireless card.

I also tried the Network Connections setup part of ubuntu. That one shows the access point by its essid name in the list of wireless network, but when I try to connect it takes sometime and eventually asks for the wep key, which I provide and then it times out and keep asking it. The same wep key works for other pcs.
Can't figure it out. I am using ubuntu 9.10.

Some more details are the following:

1) Here the output from the log file: /var/log/wifi-radar.log

Of course it is set ... and dhcp client works for wired lan anyway.

2) diego@mysuperlaptop:/var/run$ sudo iwlist wlan0 scan [sudo] password for diego:

I tried everything I could think about in the UI windows setting (WifiRadar and Wireless Network Connections) a well in the config files from the shell. I just don't get what the deal is. I am pretty sure it is a DHCP issue but can't figure out what.

Networking :: Get Connected To A Wireless Network That Only Allows DHCP?

Jan 16, 2009

I have a WET54g bridge that I am trying to get connected to a wireless network that only allows DHCP. The idea behind it is that I would like to connect the Cat6 out of the bridge to a switch allowing multiple wired computers to connect to the wireless network. The bridge will easily connect to the network once I put the WEP key in, however, there is a kink after that. When I connect the Cat6 to my computer and request an IP for that computer, it self assigns. This tells me that it is not talking to the wireless network through the bridge.

I can not find which IP address the bridge was assigned so that I can talk to it. The sub net is 255.255.240.0 which leaves quite a few possibilities. I know that the bridge is, however talking to the wireless network because the light is steady on the front of it which indicates just that. One other thing to stack on is that I know that there is a "splash page" which comes up when any computer connects. You click on the agreement and then you are allowed onto the network. How can I get my computer to talk through the bridge to the wireless network?

I am using WEP security and authentication is open system.

I have windows 7 beta installed on the same machine and on that wireless network works fine so i am sure that there is no problem with the wirless network. I am using DIR-300 router from D-LINK. I tried to see packet log on wireshark and there i see that there is no reply to the DHCP discover message. Actually i don't see any RX packets at all. Which is not normal as there is traffic on the network.

Networking :: Debian Wireless - DHCP At Startup - Can't Connect Once In Gnome

Apr 14, 2010

I am trying to get my intel pro wireless 3945abg working on this Lenny installation. My progress is as follows:

No wireless & LED (on the physical switch) won't turn on
installed NdisWrapper and netw5x32 driver
installed package "firmware-iwlwifi_0.14+lenny2_all.deb"

[code]....

Still no wireless, but when DHCPDISCOVER runs at startup, it is apparently assigned an IP address using wlan0. This only happens when the cable (eth0) isn't plugged in (eth0 is set to static) which leads me to believe that the wireless really does work for DHCPDISCOVER.

What I want to know so that I can mess about with it more is how do I switch between drivers? What I have been doing here is

Code:

modprobe -r [old driver]

and then

Code:

modprobe [new driver]

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Stream Media To Xbox 360?

Dec 17, 2009

I'm pretty sure this has been asked before, and I'm not even sure I'm in the right thread,*ahem* I am trying to stream media (or at least music) from my openSUSE 11.2 library, either from Amarok or a specialized program. The problem is, I only have one computer and it's upstairs, the Xbox is in the basement. So, it needs to be wireless. Not sure where I saw it, but there was a guide for doing it with Ubuntu, a spare computer, and an Ethernet cable. As you can see, however, there are 3 fatal flaws to this method in my case.

I used to use TwonkyMedia Server, but that was a trial, and I refuse to pay for any service that should be as simple as Pie (no, not Pi. That's not quite as simple).

Fedora Networking :: Internet Very Slow / DHCP Doesn't Work W/ Wireless Connection

Jul 17, 2009

I am a convert from Ubuntu (9.04 kept freezing on my laptop; when it did work, many packages it seemed were outdated--ie only Eclipse 3.2, rdesktop was messed up [and apparently is also in Fedora]), and I am having some trouble with getting my wireless working.I am running Fedora 11.First off, there is a problem when trying to connect when using DHCP. NetworkManager gets to the second green dot, and then after a short while I am given a message that the connection was disconnected.

Configuring the interface manually, not using DHCP, allows the connection to complete. However, the internet is very slow. There is a 15-30 sec delay before website loading actually commences, and then another delay each time an ad must be fetched from another server. How can I fix this delay? I know I have encountered it in earlier versions of Ubuntu, but I can't remember how I fixed it.About the rdesktop problem, if anyone is able to help [maybe I should post another thread?], the cursor color (the color of the pointer) is inverted---where it should be white it is black, and where it should be black it is white. I use rdesktop a lot to connect to my terminal server in my basement. Any idea how to fix it?

Ubuntu Networking :: DHCP Server No Longer Responses To DHCP Requests - Can't Ping Gateway

Oct 22, 2010

Back in April I set up a Ubuntu DHCP server and a multiple VLAN network [URL] to migrate our various servers, workstations, etc off the 192.168.1.1 /24 network that everything was on because we where running out of address space. I built out the new network and everything worked great except our AD server would never get an IP address from the DHCP server (static reservation) and even if I set the IP statically on the AD server it couldn't ping the gateway and noone could log in. After several attempts to resolve this, including bringing in outside help, we where never able to figure out what the problem was.

Now 6 months later I have time to revisit the issue without effecting the live network. I used Acronis and imaged the AD server last Friday, cloned it on to another box with the same hardware, and put it up on the new network that's been sitting unused for the last 6 months. Today when I statically set the IP on the AD server (which is what I want) it connects and I can ping it's gateway 192.168.1.1 and all the way across vlans to a test sales agent workstation at 192.168.8.xxx on vlan 800 but only if I statically assign the agents station an IP address. When I try to get an IP address via DHCP it fails as destination unreachable. Nothing has changed in the last 6 months on the DHCP server but now it for some reason can't ping its default gateway 192.168.1.1. All of the config files are the same as they where left from the post linked above aside from the vlan id's used where changed from 1's to 100's (i.e. vlan 3 is now vlan 300) /etc/network/interfaces

Code:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
auto vlan100
iface vlan100 inet static

[code]....

why it can't reach the gateway, when I do a tcpdump I can see the DHCP requests come in on eth0 but the server never responds and I'm pretty sure its because it isn't "seeing" them since it thinks there isn't a network connection but I don't know how to trouble shoot to find out where the problem lies.

Networking :: Configure A (openSUSE) Client To Dhcp To EBox DHCP Server - Lease An IP Address

Mar 25, 2010

I am puzzled with trying to configure a linux (openSUSE) client to dhcp to eBox DHCP server. I am using dhclient to lease an IP address with dhclient eth0 -s 10.45.48.108 and get a response

openSUSE11232CL1 dhclient: DHCPDISCOVER on eth0 to 10.45.48.108 port 67 interval 4
openSUSE11232CL1 dhclient: DHCPOFFER from 10.45.48.108
openSUSE11232CL1 dhclient: DHCPREQUEST on eth0 to 10.45.48.108 port 67
openSUSE11232CL1 dhclient: send_packet: Network is unreachable
openSUSE11232CL1 dhclient: send_packet: please consult README file regarding broadcast address.

The server reports eBox141 dhcpd: DHCPDISCOVER from 00:0c:29:3e:57:a3 (openSUSE11232CL1.domain.net) via eth0
eBox141 dhcpd: DHCPOFFER on 10.45.200.2 to 00:0c:29:3e:57:a3 (openSUSE11232CL1.domain.net) via eth0

I interpret this as the server receives the request and the client accepting it but the lease does not last long and the connection breaks. what this could be and why the connection breaks? Or my undestanding is totally wrong on how it works and should work? And BTW, where is that README file that's referenced in the message I receive on the client?

For instance Upnp, samba configurations, mediatomb. I figure with the ubuntu desktop at etho0 and the down stairs xbox plugged in the same linksys router and another xbox up stairs connected through wireless adapter and they all connect to the internet fine I am even able to connect between both xbox's and share files. I should be able to see my network on ubuntu. But i don't. I'm completely stumped and have been at this for, well I embarrassed to say as I am a computer repair tech by trade.
