I'm using a D-Link Xtreme N PCI express wireless adapter (DWA-556). It shows up in the network manager.
However it does not get an ip address from the DHCP server. Below is what I get in the messages log:
I have installed Fedora 10 on my A860 Dell Vostrol Laptop with AR242X Atheros Wireless card. Wireless card worked out of the box and i could detect wireless network and connect to it. But i have a problem that, my wireless connection is not able to get IP address from the DHCP server. Please help me out what can i do to get this working. I am using WEP security and authentication is open system.
I have windows 7 beta installed on the same machine and on that wireless network works fine so i am sure that there is no problem with the wirless network. I am using DIR-300 router from D-LINK. I tried to see packet log on wireshark and there i see that there is no reply to the DHCP discover message. Actually i don't see any RX packets at all. Which is not normal as there is traffic on the network.
I've installed ubuntu 10.04 on a hp mini 110. I've used netbook remix on this same computer and had no problems with a wireless connection. In this case, network manager shows wireless disabled. I have installed the Broadcom B43 Wireless drive from Adminstration->Hardware drivers. No help! ifconfig does not
show eth1 and lspci tells me that the Broadcom BCM4312 Network controller is present.
I have got DHCP issues with Network Manager. Whenever I try to connect using static IP it works, but when I use use Netowork Manager with DHCP, it seems to try to connect and soon says "Network Disconnected"..I've managed to connect to wlan and eth using network, so there shouldn't be any hardware/driver issue.

How do I tell the shared connection that it has a static IP and that I dont want a DHCP on the network?Do I have to set up DHCP on the box with the shared connection, even if that box only runs DHCP for a single IP address being the eth0 that is shared?Or can I tell the shared connection that it has a static IP and still allow network manager to run the shared connection?Or should I specify static IP's for all clients and the shared network manager and install say firestarter on the gateway to run the NAT for the eth0 out to eth1.
View 3 Replies View RelatedVersion 10.04 LTS. Installed desktop version and network worked but I needed a static IP address and the install configures for a DHCP configured address. I tried changing to static address using the System->Preferences->Network Connections application but was unable to get the system to come up with the network up.
So I manually modified the /etc/network/interfaces and the /etc/resolv.conf files. I restart the system but when I do an ifconfig, I don't see a configured IP address on eth0 (only the loopback address). If I run /sbin/ifup eth0 everything then works fine and ifconfig shows the correct address bound to eth0.

I interpret this as the server receives the request and the client accepting it but the lease does not last long and the connection breaks. what this could be and why the connection breaks? Or my undestanding is totally wrong on how it works and should work? And BTW, where is that README file that's referenced in the message I receive on the client?
I'm having trouble getting this wireless card to work. I installed the broadcom-wl driver on Fedora 12.

The card is recognized by System--admin--network as the correct card (BCM43XG) and assigned eth1. However, NetworkManager shows no wireless network. I have a great signal on the same machine if I boot into a Windows partition.
When I attempt to connect to a wireless network, the network manager asks me for the network's password, then says 'setting network address' for 20 or so seconds, then asks me for some random Hex or ASCII key in the same type of window I put the password in (Secrets for Noel -- KDE Daemon). Since a key is already typed into the window, I press OK, which then causes the network manager to go back to 'setting network address', then the window pops up again and keeps repeating itself.
I'm running Opensuse 11.4 with KDE, and my driver is ath9k. I don't know much about linux so please don't tell me to 'recompile this' or 'change this setting' without explaining how to do it. Please help, I've been unable to connect to wireless in OpenSUSE for 2 weeks now.
I have installed a working DNS server on my home network. I have an unique server, devoted to dns, gateway, storage which runs opensuse 11.0 (I known that it is rather old). Two new clients require DHCP. I have installed, using yast, a very simple DHCP server, according to the following config:

The same mac, on my office network (not managed by me), receives everything.
First, (for samba) how do I determine whether my computer "gets IP address information from a dhcp server on the network," and whether "the dhcp server provides info about WINS servers ("NetBIOS name servers") present on the network," and consequently whether a change to my smb.conf file, "so that DHCP-provided WINS settings will automatically be read from /etc/samba/dhcp.conf," and whether the dhcp3-client package must be installed?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI setup the dnsmasq in debian squeeze as dhcp and dns server, for the debian host i assigned the static ip addresses, and configured the xp for dhcp. Windows XP network can't acquire DHCP address from debian squeeze with this error:

I have an Ubuntu Server 10.04.1 that I have given a static IP address. Every six hours or so I will lose connectivity to it and when I type ifconfig to look at the network information, it has been given an address via dhcp. If I run the /etc/init.d/networking restart command the IP address goes back to my static address and things are fine for another 6 hours or so. Here is what is in my interfaces file:

This machine is also a DHCP server and I checked to make sure there are no other DHCP servers on my network. Right now my fix is to have a Cron job running that runs the reset command every 5 hours, but I would like to find a more permanent solution.
I am attempting to get this network card running under CentOS 5.2 but have had no luck. Some sites say to use the sk98lin driver, others the skge, which I can't find at all. I have tried multiple versions of the driver in rpm but none seem to work. The card shows under the network manager but will not get an IP address from the DHCP server.

How to get this working as we have 3 of these cards for computers without a Gb NIC and I don't want to fight with it 3 separate times.
I have a network with one of the server machine being under Fedora 14 and the clients machines being under Windows 7 and Fedora 14.
Quite often I get some difficulties for the clients to get an IP address from the dhcp server. If I look at the server logs, it looks like the server sees the requests and sends and answer:

The cable internet I'm using runs on Dynamic DHCP IP addresses. I changed it to a static IP address in my router settings, but it keeps changing. This means that I can't connect to my home server from a remote location.
Is there anyway to run my ubuntu server on a DHCP IP address without connecting through my router 192.168.1.xxx?

So, after doing a 'yum update', I minimized the terminal and completely forgot about it - so I accidentally went ahead and suspended my laptop before it had finished. I resumed my laptop and noticed that yum hadn't finished 'cleaning up' the packages. Nevertheless, yum continued and the process finished. After an hour or so use of the internet (wirelessly), all of a sudden the wireless network disconnected, and NetworkManager crashed. I rebooted my computer only to find that NetworkManager now says that my 'firmware is missing' for my wireless card.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI noticed that my internet connection wasn't automatically brought up each time I logged into Fedora so I opened the system-config-network tool and edited my network adapter by checking the box marked "automatically start at boot/login." To my surprise, the connection went down and upon trying to click on the device to let the manager bring up the connection the greyed-out phrase "device not managed" appeared underneath the device name and wouldn't allow me to connect.
Even when I used ifconfig/dhclient to get the connection up nothing happened. I could get the router to assign an IP address through DHCP, pinged a few sites to make sure it was legit, but still couldn't use firefox to browse anything. Seems as if network manager GUI is conflicting with command line attempts to bring the network up. I'd like to permanently disable system-config-network if possible because it's acting screwy!
I have a WET54g bridge that I am trying to get connected to a wireless network that only allows DHCP. The idea behind it is that I would like to connect the Cat6 out of the bridge to a switch allowing multiple wired computers to connect to the wireless network. The bridge will easily connect to the network once I put the WEP key in, however, there is a kink after that. When I connect the Cat6 to my computer and request an IP for that computer, it self assigns. This tells me that it is not talking to the wireless network through the bridge.
I can not find which IP address the bridge was assigned so that I can talk to it. The sub net is 255.255.240.0 which leaves quite a few possibilities. I know that the bridge is, however talking to the wireless network because the light is steady on the front of it which indicates just that. One other thing to stack on is that I know that there is a "splash page" which comes up when any computer connects. You click on the agreement and then you are allowed onto the network. How can I get my computer to talk through the bridge to the wireless network?
When I install Fedora 10 on a new system, I let it default to DHCP. Later, I change the system to a fixed IP address by running system-config-network, selecting eth0, clicking on "Edit", clicking on "Statically set IP addresses:" and filling in the blanks. No matter what I put in the Preferences->Networking area (identifying the interface as Manual)... it still will query DHCP for an address if I run the dhclient command. I've set up a caching nameserver on my laptop running Fedora 11. The problem with this is that NetworkManager always overwrites the entry that points to the local nameserver. NetworkManager no longer respects /etc/dhclient.conf or at least its scripts run after dhclient.conf. Also it doesn't respect /etc/sysconfig/ network-scripts/ifcfg-* setting of DNS{1.2}.The man page of NetworkManager describes scripts that run in /etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d which can be run when interfaces are brought up and down. I've written a script that will put the entry needed for the local nameserver.

But now I have nuked that installation and replaced it with FC10. Network Manager is nice, and I would like to use it. And it kind-of works. Network Manager recognizes my router and all my neighbor's routers, but I can't connect.

I have one major problem that is going to cause me to switch back to windows. My wireless network shows connected and works fine for a while but periodically stops working. It always says it is connected but sometimes stops working to where I have to disconnect and reconnect for it to start back up again.

With the same computer, if I reboot and chose Windows XP, it work fine. The log message or the boot message was "No IP Address yet ...backgrounding". I tried to reconfig network device, restart services, change another port, change another line LAN, set static IP Address .... but there's no luck for me.
