I have looked through many different forums and ..... tutorials on how to get Samba to work. I am new to Ubuntu (Linux in general). I am able to access my shared folders on my Windows 7 system with my Ubuntu system. I cannot access the shared files on my Ubuntu though on my Windows 7.
View 1 RepliesUbuntu in Windows 7 (64 bits) File system installed using Wubi I got Ubuntu 10.04 LTS intalled using Wubi. That means Ubuntu resides inside Windows file / folder system. It also means Ubuntu does not have its own partition. Here is what I found out:
1) It cannot detect wireless network unlike Win 7 on this same laptop. However, when I plug in ethernet cable, it was able to detect it. Is there a fix this problem?
2) I cannot see Windows folders. How do access windows folder from Ubuntu side and vice versa?
3) I forgot to set the disk space for Ubuntu during install and I think the default is 17 GB.Would this cause me problems? If so, what do I need to do? How do I expand the disk space for Ubuntu?
I've been trying to revive my old Acer Aspire 3680, which is supposed to have Acer InviLink 802.11b/g Wi-Fi CERTIFIED solution, supporting Acer SignalUp wireless technology, as shown is in Specification.The system simply doesn't detect Wi-fi and I don't know how to make it work.

I trust every user on the system, but i've had problems before like one user's account gets hacked and someone starts using my box to DDOS. Each user has their own ip.. And I would like to write a script or use an existing solution (if one exists) to monitor number of tcp/udp connections each minute and see if it's unusually high. I don't want it to stop the flooding or anything, I just want to be notified by email or something.

My networkmanager understands that the card is installed. But it can not find any network. Also iwlist scan gives me no result. I did not have this problem on earlier fedora releases. Recently I upgraded to F12 from F11. I should mention that I have another USB DLink wireless card and when I plug it, everything works fine with that card. I also tested wl_apsta driver using fw-cutter. I did not work neither.
Programs like aMSN, and controlling music volume, etc are gone in the upper-taskbar/panel. I think I accidentally managed to delete the whole upper panel, and created a new one. Still the programs I start up which suppose to appear in the upper panel, don't appear there. Any idea how to fix this, or to add those functions to the upper panel?

I'd like to have a dual-boot system with WIN7 and Ubuntu. I already have Windows 7 installed. I tried the 9.10 installation but the partitioner says i don't have any Operating Systems installed. I read a few threads about this type of issue and i didn't find any solution. Then i found a discussion saying that there is a problem with GRUB2 in 9.10 and that the problem is not present in 9.04. Then i tried the installation with 9.04 but got exactly the same problem: the partitioner does not detect Windows 7. Basically i have this system:
- Windows 7 Professional x64
- 1 TB HDD with 4 partitions with 100Gb each (NTFS)
- ~600 GB unpartitioned free space
- Processor Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200
- ASUS P5Q MOBO
- ATI Radeon HD 4550
I tried both the x32 (i386) and x64 (AMD) versions of 9.10 and the x64 version of 9.04. I don't have the WIN7 partition that some installations seem to have, at least i don't see it under Disk Management (Computer Management).
I've searched quite a bit and cannot find a solution to why using update-grub cannot detect my windows 7 partition Here is a log of the bootinfo script(hopefully it pastes correctly...)

I've installed the last year ubuntu 8.10 on dual boot with winodows XP, but then I had to format the XP so I lost the dual boot and access to ubuntu and I used only XP...Now, I downloaded Xubuntu 9.10, when I was trying to install it, when preparing the disks a message tell me that the PC has no operating system, then when I choose to manually partion the disk, xubuntu does not read the different partition I'm having and just display the hole disk as free space
View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu 9.10 yesterday on my computer. I had Windows XP and Windows 7 (I deleted the Windows 7 partition and installed Ubuntu 9.10). However, after installing Ubuntu, I couldn't access the grub boot menu. So I googled, and I found out how to make the menu show up again. That was okay. But Windows XP didn't show up. So I googled a bit more, searched the forums, and I added the following entry to my 40_custom file code...
As far as I know, that should work. The uuid I entered there is the one that gparted told me was the uuid of the partition. However, this isn't working. I get a disk read error when I try to boot my Windows XP.
According to my gparted, my Windows XP drive is inside an extended partition? I wonder if that has any influence on why I'm getting the disk read error, or anything. It's either that, or my 40_custom entry is wrong. I've been trying to sort this out for a while now, and I'm afraid I'm not getting anywhere with it.
i did a fresh install of 10.04 on my asus 1005ha netbook (first-gen 1005ha, if it matters), and it works great. However, grub does NOT detect my windows partition. In gparted, the partition is recognized as "unknown". I can't mount it in ubuntu.
This is what fdisk gives me:

My windows 7 is not corrupted. it is also not virus-infected. I know what i am doing, and i know my windows is fine. it has been running fine prior to installing ubuntu. I'm just saying this becuz i noticed that viruses are a common response to similar problems like this.
i have a windows xp OS installed on C and on D ubuntu 64bit ! and i disabled from windows to see the booting manager where it shows me weather to choose Windows or ubuntu ! and the GURB menu , when it comes up i cant see windows !
Note: i tried the sudo update-gurb this or wtever command was it ! but also failed to show windows
I am running Windows XP Pro SP3 and it is currently setup on a system running 2 SCSI drives with an adaptec 2940 UW (non RAID) PCI card both are 18.4 GB. Windows XP is installed on the first one and I am trying to install Ubuntu 11.04 onto the second, but the installation doesn't recognize that windows is installed on the first drive and only gives me that drive as an option to install... Gparted recognizes both, one as an NTFS file system (sdb) and the second as a unpartitioned drive (sdc) and for some reason is placing the usb drive as sda which i'm assuming might cause some issues with grub boot loader later on after the drive is removed. what might be causing this issue and how i would go about fixing it... should i just go to 10.04 and upgrade to 11.04 after?

I tried unplugging all my external hard drives to see if that made a difference, but Ubuntu still can't tell that I have Windows 7 on there.

I've just installed 10.4 and it works like a charm. The only problem I have is that I've plugged my ipod touch 3g in and nothing happens. It seems like the system doesn't detect it. Opening rhythmbox nothing happens either.
Do i need to do any extra thing in order to have my ipod working?

I'm new to linux and having a lot of problem, and I would really apprecaite the help. It all started when I connected my laptop to an LCD. Since then, my system doesn't detect its own screen. So I have to escape as the start of reboot and go to a recovery mode and select failsafe screen. Ubuntu then set to lowest graphic mode. It's no way to keep a set up for the long run. I've tried to reinstall Ubuntu from a CD but that doesn't work. .

Machine A:
- Linux Red Hat OS.
- Has internet connection (no proxy).
- Has public IP.
Machine B:
- Windows XP OS.
- Has internet connection (with HTTP proxy).
- Has connection to machine C and machine D. Machine C and D don't have internet connection, but machine B can connect to those machines because machine B, C, and D are located in the same network.
I need to connect machine C and D via machine A. I heard it can be done using ssh between A and B, but I don't know the details.
We just got a new rack server in at work, and it won't automatically detect the NIC Cards on the system, I can't seem to find any drivers on the internet for them as well. Would anyone know if they are avaliable?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have two graphics cards in my computer. One is a crappy built-in nVidia GeForce 6150 SE, and the other is a high-end (as of 2008) GeForce in the 8000 range. I would like to use the latter, but I can't get anything to detect it. Testing which is in operation is easy: they have separate video outputs. I've tried changing the BIOS settings, but to no avail. I'm stumped. Could it be that my other card is dead? How could I test it? I'm fairly certain that it worked back when I used Windows, as I remember having to use my DVI-to-VGA converter (the other card's outputs are all DVI).
