Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Update Files On DNS323
Jan 23, 2010
I am still suffering the same problems with my DNS323:
* Timestamps change when files written to NAS
* Unable to update files once written to NAS
* Unable to CHOWN or CHMOD files on NAS
My fstab looks like this:-
[Code]....
The UID and GID exist on both my NAS and Ubuntu machine. NAS permissions restrict access to nas-user1. I've tried options "noperm", "nounix" in fstab and "client lanman auth=yes" in smb.conf; all with no joy. Think I've exhausted the internet - been searching for weeks All I want is to be able to use the DNS323 as an external (network) drive; am I asking too much - is anyone else havng these problems; does anyone have their DNS323 configured where they're able to do the things I can't? All works fine from a Windows laptop; would hate to have to use Windows more
I have brought a virtuell server to get Magento ready. My server is debian with PHP Version 5.2.6-1+lenny3
For that i need Pear. I want to install it global so i tried this command "apt-get install php-pear". Following i get after this:
Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done The following extra packages will be installed: php5-cl Suggested packages: code.... 1+lenny3_all.deb 404 Not Found E: Unable to fetch some archives, maybe run apt-get update or try with --fix-missing?
The server connects fine, I can load pages, FTP in, etc. So everything seems good on that end. When I try to use the internet from the Ubuntu box, however, it doesn't seem to want to connect. The internet won't load through firefox, and attempting to update through the repository won't connect. I've tried playing around with refreshing the connection and rebooting and such, but nothing seems to be fixing this. I can't think of what the issue may be as the connection is working, as I can get on the server, but can't seem to get it to connect outward from the actual box.
I want small facebook tab like widget on my desktop. It is available in kubuntu. Is there any way to create it??I should be able to view updates, update my status etc
On my ageing laptop with Intel IPW3945 wireless adapter which has always worked extremely well.... Fedora 13 with the latest NetworkManager. Seems that wireless speed has slowed to a crawl.
I cannot, in any way, share files between my Windows 7 and Ubuntu PCs. I have tried everything out there and nothing seems to work. I don't get why! I have samba installed, I have installed the apache2.2 packages and I have checked the network file sharing.
I can create shares with folders and I can see all the windows computers on the network (but can't access any of them).
I cannot view my Ubuntu computer from the Windows computer either.
I live in an apartment that is shared with others. We all connect to the internet through the same router. I have files I would like to share with others but have been unable to figure out how to make folders public, or how to view public folders of others and get their files.
i am new using ubuntu 10.10 and so far i like it but the only thing i have problems is to be able to connect to the network i am running Windows 7 on the main pc and when i try to connect to the network (Click on Places, Network, Windows Network "icon appears" "right click on it" and get message Unable to mount location, "Failed to retrieve share list from server" i have try many solutions for the last 3 days but no luck can somebody i just want to share some music files and be able to connect to sound system and play the music
I wouldn't be posting this if I hadn't tried very hard for the past week to do this on my own, but alas, I failed. I have this two configurations:
Desktop: - Ubuntu 9.10 - Connected to the internet though a wireless card - Connected to "Laptop" via wired network with a crossover cable
Laptop: - Dell latitude - Ubuntu 9.10 - Connected to "Dektop" via wired network with a crossover cable
The wired connection is working, both computers are able to ping each other, but I haven't managed to share internet, nor files. I have tried many different ways, from setting the wired network to "Shared to other computers" to this guide in the Ubuntu Wiki. The best I could get was for the connection to work by setting the IPs manually, whatever else I try results in either nothing or in a not-working connection.
My server info: SUSE 11.3 , authenticated against LDAP, I am able to log in using LDAP credentials. I did run smbpasswd -w password
After I configured the smb.conf file, I try to do this on the Terminal to make sure it will work in Windows machines but I got this error:
user@mybox:~> smbclient -L mybox.mydomain.com Enter user's password: (I enter the user password here) Connection to mybox.mydomain.com failed (Error NT_STATUS_CONNECTION_REFUSED)
so I went to /var/log/samba.log to check the error file, I got this :
Connection to LDAP server failed for the 1 try! [2010/12/10 18:08:50.919813, 1] lib/smbldap.c:1330(another_ldap_try) Connection to LDAP server failed for the 2 try! [2010/12/10 18:08:52.133624, 1] lib/smbldap.c:1330(another_ldap_try) Connection to LDAP server failed for the 3 try!
and it kept going on and on until I stop it.
Here is my smb.conf file, please take a look to see what I've done wrong here. I tried to to take out WORKGROUP in GLOBAL but there were error like " Work group name x.x.x.com is too long, so I put in WORKGROUP = etc.

I used my colleges online site to automatically install and setup the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client. Everything went smoothly. I have a Cisco icon in my system tray and it says that I am connected to the VPN.
My question then is where do I access the VPN? I am assuming that I can access the other computers at the other end of the VPN as I would if they were networked to me, however I cannot seem to find any information on how this is done after the connection is made.
I looked in the Network folder which is where I figured everything would be, but there is nothing other than the normal, empty, network folders.
I am running Linux Mint 9, KDE 4.4
My friend Google let me down, and every VPN how to I can find ends at the "connected" stage, never getting into details about where to go from there...
every time i try to update my computer i get this message administrator@desktop:~$ sudo aptitude upgrade W: The "upgrade" command is deprecated; use "safe-upgrade" instead. Reading package lists.Done Building dependency tree Reading state information. Done Reading extended state information Initializing package states.. I have just got my network to work on Fedora, and now I have run into an new problem... I can't access any shared files or printers. The computer that has the printer and the files I want to access runs windows XP Home edition, and when I boot into XP on my machine, I can access the files and printer. Can this be fixed, or is Fedora incompatable with Windows XP in this case?
When i try to update via update manager it says either "failed" or "hit". It done this on my iMac recently so i took it off there. I've had ubuntu on this laptop many times (Dell xps m1530) and its been fine. I cant even install anything from the repositories. When i try to update via terminal it gets stuck on "gb.archive.ubuntu.com lucid release.gpg" and all the other ones after it.
When I check for updates in Update Manager, instead of downloading the files, goes through the files very quickly and says "Hit" for every file. If I try to update this information manually by running sudo apt-get update, I get this:
after initating the update and i enter my pass word, update stops and an error box comes up stating that it is unable to update because there is more than one synaptic manager running, i have restarted and get the same results, and to my knowledge there is nothing else running in the background.
i am downloaded some e-books in the format .rar. when i am extracting them i am getting error as There is no command installed for RAR archive files. Do you want to search for a command to open this file?
As the title says i updated my system which then needed a reboot. I also installed Mixxx djing software to try it out. So i thought id just restart the system. Usually when i boot into my desktop wireless automatically can connect to my router but not this time, wired only for now... i know theres tons of wireless issue threads but some more experienced users will be able to get straight to the point and run through some diagnostics with me.
Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit I have not been able to update using the update manager or by using the package manager. It seems when the update manager tries to download all the requests fail.Anyone else had this problem??
I have used Ubuntu 9.10 for a few months. I like it because it seems faster than Windows XP or Vista. Nevertheless, it has happened many times that I couldn't log in Ubuntu after an update. I thus had to uninstall Ubuntu from Windows and reinstall a clean copy of Ubuntu again.
1. Is this common to you guys or just me alone?
2. What are the causes?
3.Does Wubi play a role in causing this login problem since I install Ubuntu thru Wubi?
4. What are other solutions in solvng this login problem?
I tried to update my ubuntu from 8.04 to 10.04. Because I couldn't find the update in the update manager I started the update with the following:
<Alt> <F2> update-manager --devel-release
After checking for packages to update I first updated all the programms listed in the update manager. After this I started the update of the OS. After some checks the download of the new files started. It took appr. 2 hours. After this I got he message about some applications, which are no longer supported. So far no problems. Than I started the update of the system. After some further preparartions the update stopps with the following error message:
Die Aktualisierungen konnten nicht installiert werden Fehler beim Anwenden 'E:Couldn't configure pre-depend jre for openoffice.org-writer2latex, probably a dependency cyle.' Ursprnglicher Systemzustand wird wiederhergestellt
I tried a restart of the update as well as a rebboot of the system and restart of the update. Both failed with the same error.
My system:
AMD64 (ubuntu 32 bit version) Grub with 'Ubuntu' and Windows XP
For me the only way to get Ubuntu 10.04 running seems to install it from CD/DVD.
I have 10.04 installed on my daughters Laptop. After running an update manager session, the system asked for a restart. After restarting the Laptop won't boot up. Get a black screen scrolling with lots of hex addresses then 3 unable to mount messages ( mounting to /dev /sys /prod ) then a no init found message, followed by entering a busybox shell session which leaves me at initramfs: I'm a newbie at this linux shell stuff and don't want to make it any worse by scrabbling along blindly! System is a dell Inspiron 1501, Ubuntu is installed on a clean formatted single partition.
I'm currently trying Ubuntu 11.04 Beta 2. Everything worked fine and I love it, but today after an update to flashplugin, flash just just stopped working. If I go to ..... I'll see: You need to upgrade your Adobe Flash Player to watch this video. Download it from Adobe. I tried to uninstall/reinstall the plugin but to no avail.
I upgraded my 9.04 Ubuntu desktop to 9.10 and everythings seem to go fine until system rebooted and it only boots to shell. When i try to give commend 'gdn' i will give me following (gdm-binary:16472): WARNING **: Failed to acquire org.gnome.DisplayManager: Connection ":1.12" is not allowed to won the service "org.gnome.DisplayManager" due to security policies in the configure file (gdm-binary:16472): WARNING **: Could not acquire name; bailing out
