View 1 RepliesI already checked the preferences of UM but the filtering is somewhat awkward -- i.e. you have choice to EITHER install silently security updates OR be notified about all updates. One does not exclude the other, but for UM apparently it does.
But I have similar yet different need -- be notified about ONLY security updates (so when I click to show the updates, I will see only them). The rest of the updates should be ignored -- unless the update is required by the other, security update package.
i cant update or install anything. i have started update manager and i got an error. then i tried to update through terminal and got this:

way of fixing this?
I have just upgraded to Lucid on Ubuntu. I am a long time Pidgin user. I tried using Empathy with Gwibber, but I can't get Gwibber to update my IM status(es) in Empathy, so I want to go back to using Pidgin. (Additionally, I can't get Skype to work with Empathy.)I installed pidgin-microblog and pidgin-mbpurple, and they allow me to view my Twitter feed in Pidgin and update my Twitter status in Pidgin. However, in Karmic, I was also able to specify certain "status availabilities" (one named "Twitter-Available" and one named "Twitter-Away", for instance) to have the IM status message for these statuses become populated with my Twitter feed. This capability seems missing in pidgin-mbpurple in Lucid (and it seems to be the only thing missing from Karmic).
Is there a way to have pidgin-mbpurple update certain "status availabilities" in Lucid (and I'm just missing something) or is this no longer possible?Equivalently, is it possible to have Gwibber update my status message in Empathy? (I just want to be able to update my status once on one of my three computers - and have it propagate to all my other accounts (IM and social networking) and computers).
I can print very well over a USB cable, however I'm having trouble printing over the Internet (F13). The errors that I get are:
job-printer-state-message Unable to get printer status (Not Implemented!)
job-printer-state-reasons [u'none']
Printer status usually shows up as OK until I actually start to print and then I end up with an error message and nothing prints. This seems to show up with any type of printer connected to the internet.
I recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 off of a disc and it worked perfectly, however after I downloaded and installed the system updates from the update manager, it stopped working and it won't even see my device. I have a Zonenet ZEW2500 USB wireless adapter.

After click on install updates and entering password, a message says "Some of the packages could not be retrieved from the server(s). Do you want to continue, ignoring these packages? Yes/No.
If I answer No, this message appears:
W: Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/po....10.1_i386.deb
404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.31 80]
If Yes, it tries to download but immediately:

It has always installed the updates with no problems, until these 3 updates remain in pending installation status.
I've FC10 installed. After updating a few days back, I'm unable to use Network Manager to connect to the net through my USB Modem. All the threads I've read say to do
Code: yum update NetworkManager but how can I do it without net connection? Can anyone post the exact link of the Network Manager's latest and BUG-FREE rpm so that I can directly run it?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI lost my entire Operating system and am now reinstalling. After installing SUSE 11.1 and updating it through the update icon in the status bar, I ended up with a complete update except for the update icon in the status bar now depicting a downward arrow. This equates to my not wanting to download a update/patch/whatever of a "Microsoft font file"!
However, there is no way to delete this option that I do not want. How do I get rid of the MS font update and bring the OS/system back to the Gecko symbol associated with taking care (updating) of updating my system without a thing from MS? To those who are bound to ask, I want nothing to do with MS, this should be sufficient.
After the update to 11.04 I don't see the non-graphical terminal view any more. I run a fully encrypted system that requires password entry after the grub boot option selection. I can blindly type in my password and the system boots fine into the KDE logon screen. However, I can't see any terminal output when I use ALT-F1 to go to the non-graphical shell. It is there though, because I can blindly type in my login info and run commands from this "hidden" shell.
how I can get back my non-graphical display?
When I boot the old kernel, everything works as expected. No strange black screen but the usual text console.
I am still suffering the same problems with my DNS323:
* Timestamps change when files written to NAS
* Unable to update files once written to NAS
* Unable to CHOWN or CHMOD files on NAS
My fstab looks like this:-
[Code]....
The UID and GID exist on both my NAS and Ubuntu machine. NAS permissions restrict access to nas-user1. I've tried options "noperm", "nounix" in fstab and "client lanman auth=yes" in smb.conf; all with no joy. Think I've exhausted the internet - been searching for weeks All I want is to be able to use the DNS323 as an external (network) drive; am I asking too much - is anyone else havng these problems; does anyone have their DNS323 configured where they're able to do the things I can't? All works fine from a Windows laptop; would hate to have to use Windows more
I want the guification (or similar mechanism) which, when a user updates his/her status message gives me a notification of that. How do I get this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe server connects fine, I can load pages, FTP in, etc. So everything seems good on that end. When I try to use the internet from the Ubuntu box, however, it doesn't seem to want to connect. The internet won't load through firefox, and attempting to update through the repository won't connect. I've tried playing around with refreshing the connection and rebooting and such, but nothing seems to be fixing this. I can't think of what the issue may be as the connection is working, as I can get on the server, but can't seem to get it to connect outward from the actual box.

I've also had issues with installing new programs (specifically tried Boxee (64bit ver) and Last.fm Scrobbler), but was thinking these issues might be related to the updage-manager error.

I'm using Debian squeeze and for an assignement, i have create 2 virtual pdf cups printers. Both are working very well. To test the different administion command; i try to disable one of the printer and move his queue file to the second one. I'm able to do it easily.
Now, i wish to write a bash script that wil test the status of the printer. So that,if the printer is disable, it just execute the "move" script. Is there a way to know the status of a cups printer and use that information in a script?
For example, a command/function that can return "O" is the cups printer is enable and "1" if not.
After I upgraded from KDE 4.5 to KDE 4.6 I ran into a problem with changing the the status of different repoes from enabled to disabled, and vice versa. As I only did a desktop upgrade it is perhaps just a coincidence and hence the problem may be related to something different. But in any case, if I tick or untick the 'enable' or 'disable' option within the Yast module Software Repositories for the repo I wish to activate or deactivate, nothing happens. Deleting and readding the repoes has no effect, neither has rebuilding the rpm db or zypper refresh. I'm not very familiar with the command-line for these operations so I am grateful if anyone could give me a hint on what to try next.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo I have a laptop that I installed 9.10 on recently and for a bit everything was going fine. I have done a few updates over the course of the past week and for a couple days now I have got a huge problem. I am unable to view web pages without having to refresh them over and over until it finally loads. I thought this issue was only with Firefox and I researched the issue and ended up disabling ipv6 in FF. To no avail.
Synaptic Package Manager also will not connect to the internet. It will receive the list of updates but as soon as I click install it sticks on Downloading File 1 of XX. Since it wasn't limited to Firefox and there is debate on whether ipv6 slows down connectivity, I have disabled it system wide. Also to no avail. I have confirmed this to be so with wired and wireless connections to my router.
I've been having a common problem that most users get when trying to view .php files on a web browsers. I feel like I've tried everything including clearing the cache. This is the read what when typing this commands.
