I cannot update package information in Synaptic Package Manager. In terminal window it shows inability to connect to 10.3.2.1:8080 (http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/lucid etc). If I point to this url in my browser I can access the files.
View 8 Replies View Relatedafter alot of work with my system, I've gotten most of it working It's a Toshiba C655-S5049 with a Atheros AR9285 Wireless card, so lots of fun getting that to work, anyway I'm trying to update my system, and it wont update, if I try update manager it won't do it because it's dealing with restricted drivers, and if I try in terminal I get E: Unable to locate package updateAnyway, any suggestions? I've been trying to work this out, and it's getting annoying. The key Drivers that I'm also looking for are, Video:Intel 4500M HD Integrated with Dynamic Sharing Audio:IntelAudio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) Also, does anyone happen to know how well battlefield 2 will run in wine? it ran pretty good on windows, just wondering how it will do in ubuntu.

i am using a 64-bit machine. i have juggled between the us server, main server, and a few other servers also....still it fails.
i tried deleting everything in /var/cache/apt/archives/ ....was of no use.
Ubuntu 10.04, update manager: the package "libmyth-perl" shows up, but is greyed. I have purged all myth-tv (assuming this package belongs there) from my system, but I am unable to remove this package from the update manager.

the sendmail packages on my f15 server were updated from 8.14.4-20 to 8.14.5-1 yesterday. since then, every attempt to send mail via a smart relay have failed with :

i've tried using various different smtp relays and they all now throw the same error. without going through all my sendmail config, i have the following entries in /etc/mail/sendmail.mc :

and the /etc/mail/authinfo file contains :
AuthInfo:{incoming mail server} "U:{user}" "P:{password}"

Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit I have not been able to update using the update manager or by using the package manager. It seems when the update manager tries to download all the requests fail.Anyone else had this problem??

Then the sistem claimed to return back to the previous state, but now ALL the package are marked as "upgradable", and the Software Updater is suggesting me to do a "partial upgrade". What happened? How I can get back with a coherent system? I don't installed the xubuntu-desktop, BTW.

When i try to update via update manager it says either "failed" or "hit". It done this on my iMac recently so i took it off there. I've had ubuntu on this laptop many times (Dell xps m1530) and its been fine. I cant even install anything from the repositories. When i try to update via terminal it gets stuck on "gb.archive.ubuntu.com lucid release.gpg" and all the other ones after it.

version - 2007.dfsg.17-2ubuntu1
Also it is the latest version available in the repo. However, this is not the
latest in pstricks. I find that version in the new 10.04 is 2009-7ubuntu3
Is there some way to get this installed in 9.10? Or I have to upgrade my whole installation?
I am having problems with my Drupl install, which I got from the repository with apt-get.
Each time a update comes out, about once a month, my one Drupal site breaks.
How do I turn off the feature just for the Drupal packages? I am downloading the install files from [URL], and going with the tar.gz files.

I'm new to GNU/Linux and recently installed Edubuntu 10.10 beta on a workplace computer. I'm currently a technology intern at a public school and want to install Edubuntu on some older computers here. I am working behind a network proxy provided by the department of education.I tried to install flashplugin-nonfree and noticed I didn't have a full package list. After running sudo apt-get update I get the error "unable to connect to[url]....
I'm thinking this might have to do with the network proxy, but for some reason I'm able to browse http:[url]... just fine in Firefox.How do I update the package list?
Edit: I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on another machine at work and it has the same issue, i.e. I can't update the package list.
Edit 2: I am using a .pac file for the proxy.

I get this message when automatic update runs: Apt Authentication issue Problem during package list update. The package list update failed with a authentication failure. This usually happens behind a network proxy server. Please try to click on the "Run this action now" button to correct the problem or update the list manually by running Update Manager and clicking on "Check". When I click "Run this action now" It comes back with a whole list of items that can't be updated for various reasons

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm totally new to ubuntu and i have a major problem with updating ubuntu, I was looking around for some linux based gaming and came across the online game called "Regnum Online". I installed it and all goes fine until I restart my computer next day, the top panel that usually has daily updates is missing and in its place is a red circle with an x through it I hover over it with my mouse and it reads:
"An error occurred please run package manager from the right-click menu or apt-get in a terminal to see what is wrong."
Which I then right-click and open package manager and it gives the following response:
"E: Type '<!DOCTYPE' is not known on line 2 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/onemyndseye-regnum.list
E: The list of sources could not be read.
Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report."
At the bottom of this message reads:
"this usually means that your installed packages have unmet dependencies."
I don't want to lose my personal files by wiping and reinstalling ubuntu.
I've recently downgraded kaffeine to 0.8.8 to get back the EPG which was working under hardy. Is there a simple way to prevent a package from updating when I update the rest of the system? I realise that this is not normally a good idea to keep packages back like this, but the upgrade to kaffeine caused the loss of a useful tool.

In other words, what is the most sensible and relatively easy way to rol-back to the previous version of that specific package without affecting anything else (dependencies aside of course).
I want to do this with a recent adobe plug in.
I am enjoying the new install of Fedora 12, but am having trouble getting updates. First try more than >500 updates, but I get an error message.
