i cannot connect to the web with the above services. Even when it says "connection established" it still would not work. there is always a lock next to the server name.
I have dual boot system and on windows I am able to connect to wireless but on Ubuntu I am not able to connect to wireless.
I desire to learn to trouble shoot the problem my self hence I would appreciate if some one guides me How to look for the problem.
and how to find what is wrong and right
That is why I am not posting any output here but rather would like to learn to solve the problem by myself
I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my Dell Inspiron 1545 64-bit laptop. Before that I used Windows7. In Windows, the internet connection worked perfectly well. But after installing Ubuntu, I am unable to connect to the internet. The network-manager applet finally says that "You are disconnected". When I do the "ifconfig", I got no IP address.
So, I installed Ubuntu 9.04 in the same system. But the problem persists.
I gone through many posts in this forum but nothing was useful.
I am unable to connect to my wireless network. When I click on Network manager it says under wireless "device not managed".
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running ubuntu 9.10 on my desktop.Wireless networks appear on the dropdown menu but when I try to connect to my home network the authentication box appears, after typing my password the box disappears and it continues to connect but nothing happens and after a while the authentication box appears again. So.. no internetz connected.

I installed Ubuntu 11.04 and am unable to connect to wireless internet. I looked under additional drivers and there doesn't seem to be anything listed there.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been looking through the Debian wiki, searching past topics in the forum, and generally googling, but all to no avail. I'm unable to connect to the internet through any wireless connections, nor through an ethernet cable. I installed the latest weekly image of Debian squeeze. After installation, I found myself on the command line. I installed gnome with
apt-get install gnome-desktop-environment I also tried installing gnome-applets, gnome-netstatus-applet, and gnome-nettool, but I guess they were already installed. When I open System > Administration > Network in Gnome, there's no connections tab in the Network Settings application.

I'm one of those people migrating from Ubuntu and in Ubuntu I had to add a 'rfkill -unblock all' command to my rc.local file for this laptop. Not sure if that's relevant, but thought more info couldn't hurt.

My wireless network is being detected but it refuses to connect to it. I am entering the accurate passcode and I have tried doing various commands for it to work, but it is being stubborn.
Also, it would help to know which WEP Index to use and type of Authentication.
I am using OpenSuse 11.3 and Network Manager is giving me a headache by not connecting to WEP based wi-fi network.It works in a wi-fi at my office while at my home, it shows / detects the network but keeps asking me over and over.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHeres the set up I have: one eeepc running ubuntu netbook. with a usb wifi dongle, this is connected to a parabolic antenna i made out of pizza boxes and tin foil. One fujitsu laptop running ubuntu 10.10. the eee connects to the internet via the dongle. then the laptop connects to the eee. I set this up by using network manager. I created a new wirless connection and called it "UbuntuAdhoc". The on-board card connected to this without issue and the laptop was able to connect to the new wireless broadcast by the eees on-board card.
This worked perfectly untill I rebooted the eee. Now the eee is unable to conect to the internet if the on-board caard is conected to "ubuntuadhoc". also the dongle now wants to conect to "ubuntuadhock" too.
I don't know if i should of put this in either Networking or Dell Forum. But here goes. I have a Dell Studio 1535 Laptop, and i have downloaded the new ubuntu 10.04
The problem is, is that i cannot get a internet connection. On my laptop there is a wifi sign that lights up if it works, and it didnt when i booted it. So i thought i have the driver downloaded and i tried to install it and it installed but after it crashes, so that failed. And then i tried via Ethernet and it does not connect when i connect it to the router!. It just says disconnected everytime .
I have tried to reboot, just incase it was a bad boot or something, and i stil get the same. It just will not connect to the internet
I can't connect to the Internet using firefox in F14. bu I have received update notices presumably from the internet in gnome.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed red hat enterprise 5 in my laptop and on desktop both. In desktop it is working fine but in laptop it is not showing the eth device. (I tried ifconfig only lo is there). I tried ifup eth0 still nothing happened. The network service in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 and in /etc/sysconfig/network are enable. I had ubuntu in my laptop before and I faced same problem with that too. Is there any problem with my laptop? I have my system on dual boot and in win7 networking is running fine. I am not able to connect to the internet only, other devices are working fine.
System conf: Sony vaio E series. 3 GB RAM, intel core i3 2.13 GHZ.
Has anyone else since today been unable to connect to msn?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using OpenSuse 11.4(32 bit) on my Lenovo B460 laptop, and as the title points, am unable to use wireless on it. The 'enable wireless' option from icon menu is not greyed out, however clicking it does nothing, it remains disabled.

so it seems that opensuse knows my hardware but networkmanager doesn't! I have all broadcom packages installed as well as kernel-firmware installed.
After upgrading to Ubuntu 10.04, I'm not able to make any connection to the internet with either my netbook through WiFi or my computer on wired LAN. I can, however, ping my Solaris machines and Macbook. How do I fix this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to setup a dhcp server for my internal network. I have two NICs, a modem, and a wireless router. I have my server connected directly to my modem which is providing me with Internet access on eth1 and is working fine. I have dhcp and dns setup on eth0 which is connected to my router. The router shows that it is connected to the Internet but when the router gives a client computer an IP address, the client is unable to connect to the Internet but can connect to the router. I will post my configuration files below with my current configuration.

I tried to install Xubuntu 10.10 Maverick as dual boot on my laptop. However when xubuntu is on, I can't find a way to connect to internet. When I try the 2 arrows on the up-right corner the option for wireless is deemed. I tried offline/online, that did not work either. when I click the firefox It says you are not connected.

I reported recently that I have a problem connecting to a Windows network, and someone suggested upgrading to Ubuntu 10.4 I have done, and still have the problem.
The error message I get is: "Unable to mount location. Failed to retrieve share list from server".
I have setup an OpenVPN server on my server box, it had been working perfectly until today. It operates on port 1194 which I am now unable to connect to (tried telnet). I have checked all the firewall rules and they still allow the port and I have also checked to ensure that OpenVPN is still listening to the port, which it's not but I have tried restarting the service and the box which dosent make any difference. The only thing that has changed is that yesterday I installed Openfire, could this have broken something?

Inside the file networking-scripts I can find the ifcfg-wlan0.
But it can't find any SSID when I scan the network.
I tried operating manually also.
But it can't be connected to any network.
The wireless device is also powered on.

I have this very weird problem: I'm not able to SSH to 1 specific server on the web. I can access everything, but not that specific server.

When I reboot to Windows, I can SSH using Cygwin. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid and OpenSSH client 1:5.3p1-3ubuntu6.
I tried sniffing the network with Wireshark, but I cannot understand why the TCP connection cannot be set up. I'm sure it's an Ubuntu problem as I'm able to connect to that server on the same machine, but different OS.

One is running Linux Mint 8 and the other is running Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10. The first time on either computer when I enable WebUI in the Deluge GUI it works fine. However if I ever disable it in plugins section I am subsequently unable to re-enable it (doesn't appear in the side panel again). Rebooting or reinstalling Deluge seems to have no effect.Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?
