Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Access Http://192.168.1.1 In Firefox 3.6.18?

Aug 2, 2011

In ubuntu 10.04 LTS I am currently unable to access the location http://192.168.1.1 I have accessed it earlier. This is necessary for modem configuration. I am at a loss why this is inaccessible at present. Can anybody please advise what to do? I am configuring firewall but I doubt if that has anything to do with my problem. Or in case this may be due to faulty firewall configuration, please indicate denial of possible service/program which may cause this. Also ping 192.168.1.1 reports 100% packet loss.

Ubuntu Networking :: Access My Site Using Firefox Get Error - Unable To Connect

Mar 27, 2011

When I'm trying to access my site using Firefox I get this error: "Unable to connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at mysite.com.

-The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.

-If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.

-If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."

Then I tried to access my site using Opera and Chrome but I get the same error, that the browsers couldn't connect to it.

The site to which I'm trying to connect is definitely up. (I ask a few people and they can access it and I looked at [url] and it says that my site it's up)

Ubuntu Networking :: Cannot POST Http - Unable To Send Mail Via Squirrelmail

Nov 23, 2010

I have a really weird (but consistent) problem with my Kubuntu 10.10 install: I cannot post some HTTP forms.

First off, this is a client PC problem. My squirrelmail on the server works fine. I just use squirrelmail 1.4.17 to troubleshoot the ubuntu desktop problem

I used an old (07.04) Ubuntu install which worked fine. Then I wiped the disk and installed Kubuntu 10.10 on the same hardware. Everything works but **some** HTTP post does not work (I can log in but not send mail or save draft). I noticed I cannot log in to Yahoo, for example.

My webhosting account can display the apache access_log. When I hit the <Send> button the POST request never arrives to the web server.

I use a router (Dlink DL-604) behind a DSL modem and ooma box. There is a Windows 7 PC and a Kubuntu PC connected to the router. I can use squirrelmail just fine from the Windows PC.

I tried several steps:
- reinstalled Kubuntu
- installed Firefox and Chromium (on top of reconq)
- ran from a CD on my other (Windows 7) PC
- installed Wireshark and compared the traffic (but was unable to pinpoint a problem)

The result was the same: the <Send> button just keeps waiting; the POST request never makes it to the web server.

This sounds (and is) scary and suspect. The fact that the "demo" Kubuntu install (from the CD on my other Windows PC) using the reconq exhibits the same problem on a totally different hardware leads me to believe this may be related to Kubuntu. For example, I had to type this very message on the Windows PC as I could not post it on the forum from my Kubuntu box.

Networking :: Craft A Valid Http/1.1 Request For Getting Http Headers (not The Html File Itself)

Sep 27, 2010

Using netcat, nc(1), craft a valid http/1.1 request for getting http headers (not the html file itself!) for the main index page of www dot aalto dot fi. What request method did you use? Which headers did you need to send to the server? What was the status code for the request? Which headers did the server return? Explain the purpose of each header.

nc -v www dot aalto dot fi 8080
HEAD / HTML/1.1
host: www dot aalto dot fi
And it returns:
200 OK
Content-Length: 858
Content-Type: text/html
Last-Modified: Thu, 02 Sep 2010 12:46:01 GMT
[Code]....

I really don't know what does it mean. Question 2: Using netcat, nc(1), start a bogus web server listening on the loopback interface port 8080. Verify with netstat(, that the server really is listening where it should be. Direct your browser to the bogus server and capture the User-Agent: header "Direct your browser to the bogus server and capture the User-Agent: header" I don't understand this question.

Ubuntu Networking :: The Phone Can Access The Internet Through The Computer Unable To Get Access To Https Sites, Like Webmails

Dec 31, 2010

I managed to configure my W890i phone to get access to internet through an ubuntu-based computer. It's very easy to use the phone to give internet access to the computer, but the opposite is quite more tricky. For that I've done the following

----On the phone---

-Set the USB network option to "through computer", so that the phone uses the computer's internet connection and not the opposite.

-Decide and set "Shared Network" parameters: user, pasword and workgroup.

-In "conectivity-> internet connection" set "allow local network" to "yes"

----On Ubuntu 10.04---

-Install samba, samba-client, smbfs, smbclient, firestarter and dhcp3-server

-Configure Samba (System-> Administration-> Shared folders): same workgroup as in the phone, add new user (the phone), passwd this new user. In my case the user was called "w890i" and the password given was the same.

-Once the phone is connected to the computer through USB (then select "phone mode"), a new connection appears in NetworkManager: usb0.The aim is to create a shared network that gives internet access to this device. Edit the IPv4 parameters of this new connection, set them to Manual and give an IP adress (192.168.0.1) and a subnet mask (255.255.255.0); the rest of the fields are left empty.Connect this network.

-Set firestarter to use dhcp3: sudo ln -sf /etc/init.d/dhcp3-server /etc/init.d/dhcpd

-Launch firestarter and follow the wizard. Set "allow internet shared connection", choose the device for the primary internet access, and then the device for the shared network (usb0). Then change the settings for firestarter: activate DHCP for local network, set IP to the one we gave before (192.168.0.1).

-Open dhcp3-server config file sudo gedit /etc/default/dhcp3-server And set INTERFACES="usb0"

-Set the policies of firestarter: in incoming connections, allow connections from the IP adress given to the phone (192.168.0.1). Then add rules for the ports that need to be open for this connection. I opened HTTP, HTTPS, SMB, SMTP, POP3, IMAP, IMAPS, DHCP for all the connections in the local network.

-Apply policies and start the firewall.

------------

After all this, the phone can access the internet through the computer. Two problems appeared:

1. I couldn't get access to https sites, like webmails. The phone gave a "communication error". But then I tried with Opera instead of the browser built in the phone's firmware, and I could finally get to https sites.

2. I couldn't retrieve mail, neither POP nor IMAP nor IMAPS. I thought it was a firmware problem again, and I tried out several mobile phone email clients written in java, but none of them worked.

So this is at the moment the problem. If I connect from the phone to the internet directly through 3G, the email clients work for all my accounts. I don't think it's a firewall problem, because the ports are opened for this connection

Server :: Firefox - Unable To Access VsFTPd Directory. Connection Times Out After Authentication

Apr 13, 2011

Seismicmike here. My first post. I'll try to be as clear and concise as possible. For the sake of this post, I'm going to use 1.2.3.4 as a place holder for my public IP. On my web server, I would like to be able to access the /var/ftp directory through a web browser. I have successfully done so with Google Chrome, but I cannot access the directory in Firefox or IE. Both FF and IE ask me for authentication but then time out attempting to load the directory.

I suspect that there may be something up with switching to passive mode and/or that this issue may be more with my configuration of Firefox and not with the server (seeing as how Chrome works). Another possibility may be related to SSL. When I connect with FileZilla, I have to use the FTP over Explicit SSL/TLS option in order to connect. In any case I still would like to fix it. I would also like to avoid having to install FireFTP if at all possible.

Steps to reproduce (not that you can without my actual IP =J):

* Open Chrome
* Go to ftp://1.2.3.4
* Enter username
* Enter password

Ubuntu :: Cisco - Firefox - HTTP Post ?

Aug 7, 2010

The problem I have is that once I join my company vpn, I have full access to corporate services confluence, jira, servers, etc. However when I use firefox to try and resolve a jira and post a body of text the connection timesout.

If i use any other browser it works fine, if slow, if i transition workflows it works fine, and if i use windows and firefox with the same cisco client it works fine.

This appears to be a specific issue with Firefox. I have noticed that in general firefox is slower on ubuntu than on any other platform.

Software :: Firefox And Http Post ?

Sep 10, 2010

There are a few web databases (also including my own php-based pdf manipulator), where I need to fill a html form, and upload file attachments.

About one year ago, these sites stopped to work correctly, when using Firefox (but they work from Internet Explorer). The problem concerns file upload.
Other users here also experienced this, and no firefox update corrected the problem in the past year (I am using Firefox 3.6.9 now, and the problem is still there).

When debugging my pdf creator, I found that the attachment-type of any file upload made by firefox is "text/html", irrespectively of what is the type of the uploaded file. Whilst files uploaded by IE have the correct attachment-type.

Ubuntu Servers :: Networking - Machine Refuses To Give Access To The Internet Via Firefox

Sep 21, 2010

I have a machine (lets called it machine 1) with two networks card, eth0 and eth1. Both have static IPs. Once in a while the machine refuses to give access to the Internet via Firefox (eth0 is the route to router). Other machines on the network have no problems accessing the Internet. Eventually the machine would just magically start working again, but this time it just seems to have stayed broken. I've done some simple diagnostics and found:

a) I have another machine running Apache with a Wiki on our network - [URL]. Machine 1 is unable to connect to this Wiki. I get 'the connection has timed out'. I can ping 192.168.1.73 and it responds in the usual fashion.

b) If I try to ping www.google.com it times out with: ping: unknown host www.google.com. I can ping google using its IP address.

c) On machine 1 I have tried traceroute on both www.google.com and its IP and I just get:

1 * * *
2 * * *

And so on until hop 30. Doing this on any other machine on the network works. So while it seems I can ping internally in our network and outside, but when it attempts anything traceroute or URL related it does not work.

Fedora Networking :: F13 - System Updater Can Access Internet - Firefox Can't

Aug 15, 2010

I am coming from Windows XP Pro, on the same machine (and where I am writing this post from) so the internet clearly works on XP. On F13, the eth0 connection is activated and the drivers for the NIC chip were installed with the OS. The NIC is Intel Pro/100 VE. The problem that occurs is that the system updater (in GNOME) can access the internet, and installed a bunch of updates after installing the OS. I know it can get to the internet because the updates worked and in the System Monitor, I can see both uploading and downloading occurring during the updates. Now the problem is that when I open FF, I can't seem to get to pages, and I get the usual FF error (pic -- [URL]). However, I CAN get to [URL] as well as [URL] , but I cannot access several other subdomains on fedoraproject.org . I also cannot get to any other page online, ([URL] for example).

Ubuntu Servers :: HTTP Throttling - Limit Access To My Web-server

Apr 12, 2010

I'm thinking about some ways to limit access to my web-server. It runs Nginx and php in FCGI. The server contains a large amount of information. The data is freely available and no authentication is required but other companies might like to mirror it and use on their own servers.

The requests could be limited on different levels: IP, TCP, HTTP (by nginx) or by the php application. I found some solutions (like Nginx's limit_req_zone directive), but they do not solve the second part of the problem: there's no way to define a whitelist of clients who are allowed to use the data.

I thought about an intellectual firewall that would limit the requests on IP basis, but I'm yet to find such device. Another way was to hack some scripts that would parse the log file every minute and modify the iptables to ban suspicious IPs. It would take days and I doubt this system will survive, say, 1000 requests per second.

Perhaps, some HTTP proxy, like Squid, could do this?

Ubuntu Servers :: HTTP Response Into Apache Access Logs

Jul 6, 2011

I am new to web server support. I have a request from my management to modify the logging slightly. Effectively I need to redirect a custom string from our http response into the apache access logs. When a user navigates to our site they receive a "dye" number that is associated with them. This number follows them to whatever cluster they are directed too. The string is formatted as such, com-company-dye: d0a2#6dfce. I need that that header dye to appear in the access logs so we can use that dye number as a key for troubleshooting issues though out our various monitoring systems.

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Access Some Nfs Shares

Jan 13, 2011

At, or around, the time of upgrading from Lucid to Maverick, shares on some of my nfs servers have become inaccessible:

Code:
peter@Desktop:~$ ls /net/10.2.1.21/
opt
peter@Desktop:~$ ls /net/10.2.1.21/opt/
sybhttpd

[Code]....

The share is hosted on a PopcornHour Network Media Tank, running a Linux system. With Lucid, I was able to access the share without any problems, both in Nautilus and from terminal. I can still access the share from other nfs clients - it's just ubuntu/Maverick which exhibits this problem. I have tried reverting to older firmware on the PopcornHour but that doesn't make any improvement.

Was there some significant change in nfs with the Maverick release, or have I misconfigured something?
