Nov 25, 2010I installed WordPress 3.x on my localhost/Apache server, but I can neither install plugins nor update anything.This happens with both the stable WP3.0 version and the 3.1 beta. When I try to search the Plugin Directory from the WP dashboard, I get this message: An Unexpected HTTP Error occurred during the API request.When I run an update, I get a page asking for the login credentials for the ftp user ("To perform the requested action, WordPress needs to access your web server. Please enter your FTP credentials to proceed. If you do not remember your credentials, you should contact your web host."). Since I'm part of the 'ftp' group on the system, I enter my system login information, click Proceed -- and get a blank page that does nothing.
I've gone to YaST, and I see that the system ftp user has a 6-character password (which may or may not be mine). I'm afraid to change it and risk screwing up other ftp-related functions. I'm running openSUSE 11.3, and am obsessive about updating. I will note that I have an old 2WIRE router that often requires me (including Zypper repos) to enter IP addresses instead of DNS-based URLs to successfully download stuff. Not sure if this is related, but just in case...

Jul 7, 2011I've just reinstalled XAMPP in my machine. Now, I can't get phpmyadmin to work. Before this was okay. But since I lost its password I need to reinstall it again. Now I got it reinstalled, another problem occured. When I enter localhost/phpmyadmin in my browser, it tells me to open the file with a program which is obviously something must be wrong during the installation or the system is screwed. Here's the screenshot:
Another problem is I can't get Apache and MySQL to run using the XAMPP wizard. But by using shell I can get it worked, but when I see the wizard, it just says stopped. What's wrong? Although I have pressed Execute it still can't be run.

May 27, 2010I have a laptop with Apache, MySQL, PHP, etc, and I'm able to work on web programming on my local server while at home, connected to my network. But I would like to be able to work on the local websites when I'm not connected to any networks, both for demonstrating a site, or simply working on it.
I was surprised to find that I could not connect to localhost at all without a network connection. I tried my normal Google for a solution, but, of course, that was futile without a network.
Now, I'm at home, and of course, it works because I have wireless. I don't really want to disconnect that to figure it out, so I thought maybe some nice soul here might know how to do this. Surely it can't be hard, can it? But, it's certainly not obvious.

Aug 18, 2010I recently installed Ubuntu (normal version) on to my netbook (Samsung N140) and I'm sharing my wireless connection over ethernet to my desktop using the method outlined in the Ubuntu wiki on ICS.
However, I do Ruby on Rails development, so run a local server on the netbook. I found out yesterday while working remotely that I cannot access 'localhost:3000' while I have no internet connection, and I get an error about 'sendmsg: operation not permitted' if I try to ping localhost. Likewise, I cannot access 127.0.0.1 the same way.

Jun 29, 2011While investigating my localhost access logs during an investigation to resolve locking myself out of my own server(!) I noticed this recent access attempt from a proxy referrer. I wouldn't expect this on a local server - currently set to listen on 127.0.01. The request was 403 forbidden, but surely the request should not have even reached this far? Is this an example of an unauthorised access attempt? I don't think it is me because all of my usual access requests are in moz 5 and im logged in to linux currently.

Or on /etc/mysql/my.cnf I can have two (or more) bind-addresses entries?
Ubuntu Installation :: Create Install Cd That Doesn't Need Network Access?
Aug 23, 2011I'm trying to create a 10.04.3 installed with a specific set of packages: nothing obviously special about it, just ubuntu-desktop, a few devel tools, and with a pre-seed file that sets up a few non-default parameters.
Everything works exactly the way I want it to, except for one important detail: the install always pulls packages over the network (and possibly updates to the apt database--it's not always easy to tell, during the install, exactly what it's doing). In any case, it stalls if the network goes away in the middle of the install, and since the install is intended for places with poor, intermittent network connectivity, so this is an issue for me.
I tried doing an install without any network connectivity, and it succeeded, so all the necessary packages are in the ISO. It's only when the network is available that it tries to pull over something (possibly apt files, since that's where the process seems to hang for hours when there is a slow network). So I can install from scratch in 10 minutes when the network is disabled and 2 hours when the network is enabled--and no other changes!
I don't care if the resulting ISO file doesn't fit on a CD (as long as it fits onto a DVD), but I want an ISO that doesn't insist on reaching out over the network during the install.

Dec 13, 2010This started yesterday. I haven't made any recent changes. I can't access any pages beginning with https. It's just my computer because my girlfriend's laptop doesn't have any issues. I'm using OpenDNS, but I have been for a long time and this is the first time this has ever happened. I'm not using a router, I connect straight to the modem, which I've already reset.

Jun 1, 2010I'm running Fedora 12 on x86_64. I've installed squirrelmail, along with dovecot on my office server, and cannot access it through http://localhost/webmail. I have followed all the configuration steps I could find (including http://www.server-world.info/en/note...12&p=httpd&f=7).
I know that everything else is working (I can send and receive mail, access IMAP mailboxes, webserver is working), browsing to
http://localhost/webmail
just gives me
"Problem loading page"
in Firefox. Sometimes, however the message is "Unable to connect."
I will add that I already tried installing Squirrelmail on another (i686) machine and had exactly the same problem.
/var/log/httpd/error_log says:
File does not exist: /var/www/html/squirrelmail
This makes it seem like aliasing is not working somehow.

Jan 25, 2010Up until yesterday I was able to access these devices through the web interfaces that they use. I'm running Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 I have 3 PCs running on my network, and 2 NAS devices: Ubuntu (main computer, also has an XP partition)) - static IP 192.168.1.30 Ubuntu netbook - DHCP IP Windows XP (HTPC) - static 192.168.1.50 Linksys NSLU2 (was running Debian, problem arose when trying different configuration, now back to stock firmware) - static IP 192.168.1.100 Dlink DSM-G600 - static IP 192.168.1.120
I used to be able to able access these just fine using my main Ubuntu setup. Now, it will no longer display the pages. Internet access is fine, i can even access my DSL/Router device's internal config page. The netbook and the Windows HTPC can both log into these devices, as well as the XP partition of the Ubuntu system. I have tried using a VM of XP within Ubuntu, bridging the network device, i have the same symptoms - internet is fine, cannot access local network web-logins.
Access to fileshares among all machines remains unchanged. another odd behavior is that i can SSH into the NSLU2 device from all the machines, but i get odd things from this computer - it will let me log in, asks for a username and pass, but if i run anything like mc or htop, it just blanks the terminal in an odd way. from other computers the login and display are fine.

Nov 9, 2010I can connect to anything locally, I can SSH in locally but nothing works from outside my network (can't access pages in apache, can SSH, etc.) I've checked the logs I can think of, but what should I be looking for? The last thing I did today was add a FW rule to log and drop from an IP, saved my iptables to a file in /etc. (this was at 10:45am). The last time I successfully logged in remotely 1:03pm. I connected multiple times in between. I've rebooted remotely once or twice. That's it. I've already flushed iptables.
