Ubuntu Networking :: Q150 Will Not Boot - Locked Up After Modprobe
Feb 16, 2011
I need (would like) to get the wireless running on my Lenovo q150. It uses the realtek 8191u chip for the wireless. I tried the steps in [URL]. But failed miserably. Now the Q150 will not boot. It locked up after the modprobe and I was forced to use the power switch. I was using a fresh install of maverick amd64.

Tried the normal fixes and installed the wrapper, etc. Wired network works fine, and I am able to access some unlocked wifi networks from neighbors, but I cannot access my own password protected network. It just keeps asking for the password and never connects. Fairly new Ubuntu guy here.

I am installing Centos 5.5 on a new Lenovo IdeaCentre Q150-40813AU and have been having an issue with getting the correct Ethernet driver. After Googling for a while, I found a similar type question where the following two commands were suggested; however, my results do not match the ones on that thread so I am not sure how I should proceed.
# /sbin/lspci -m | grep net
01:08.0 "Ethernet controller" "Intel Corporation" "82552 10/100 Network Connection" -r02 "Lenovo" "Unknown device 3605"
# /sbin/lspci -n | grep "$(/sbin/lspci | awk '/net/ { print $1 }')"

I have server 10.04 running, and I modified my fstab file to automatically mount an NTFS partition on startup, but after a reboot, I see that I clearly did something wrong, as now it will not boot. The output is:
[Code]....
init: ureadahead-other main process (923) terminated with status 4 If this is an error with my changes to the fstab file, is there any way I can access is to change it? No matter what i do I can't get it to boot.

My current situation is that the command "sudo modprobe ndiswrapper" is not responding, nothing happens. I am using [URL] as my guide and the "sudo modprobe ndiswrapper" is my next step. Here is some general information that you might ask for:
I received ndiswrapper utilities from "Synaptic Package Manager"
I was using jaunty jackelop before hand and the instructions worked perfectly but I decided to update to Karmic Koala 9.10 (I first installed the cloud enterprise version and realized that was way over my head).

I get the wireless working by executing
Code:
sudo modprobe b43
All good so far, but it's kinda tiring to execute that command every time I restart the computer, just to get internet access. Is there any way to make this command execute by it's own, when starting up the computer, like in the background or something. Or even better, to actually make b43 the default driver for the wireless. I've tried reinstalling both bcmwl, and b43, uninstalling bcmwl etc. But no luck.

I suppose this was caused by an update, I don't know. I just know that my wireless card is no longer seen by my Ubuntu 8.1. Maybe I should be in the newbie area. Isn't there a way I can wake it up with modprobe?

Struggled a little to get Broadcom driver working with my Dell laptop. But I am at a point where if I manually type 'modprobe b43' the wireless works. If I reboot, it doesn't work automatically and I have to 'modprobe b43' again. Any ideas what I am missing here?I can't seem to figure out how to get this to work automatically. I did check to activate device when computer starts in network manager

Since my Asus WL-3300 seems to be having trouble, I bought a USB adapter -- a Linksys WUSB54G ver 4. Version 4 was apparently important because it came with a Ralink 2570 chip -- and that's supposed to work with Linux (which is why I chose it).I think it will work because, without loading any drivers, Net Manager can see the local routers (about seven of them). But when I choose mine, though it asks for a WEP key, it never connects. I'm not sure now what driver is loading that *almost* works with it. But I think I may still need to load the driver from: URl...But when you read the page it says that the driver has entered the "Mainline Kernel" -- and I'm wondering if that is why the adaptor almost works. So the questions:
1) Without a driver, should this Ralink 2570 be working at all?
2) How do I find what driver *is* loading?
3) Modprobe doesn't seem to be able to find any rt25x00 module, is this right -- or is there some other name I should be looking for?
iwlink scan, ifconfig, etc., all see the adapter as wlan0.lsusb shows the adapter.I'm going to keep searching, but wrote this in case there is something really simple that I'm overlooking.

I have a rather frustrating issue here that's been giving me hell since about 5:00AM this morning. I just got a new laptop (a Compaq CQ42-138TU) and was hoping to dual boot between Ubuntu 10.04 and Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit).So, I partitioned the HDD (leaving the HP/Compaq restore partition and other partitions alone) and resized the partition that held the bundled copy of Windows 7 (32-bit). I resized it into two parts, installed Windows 7 Ultimate on one, and Ubuntu on the other. That's where the problems began.Selecting "Windows 7 (loader)" in Grub presented me with the first few second of the bootscreen, then a BSOD for less than a second. After that, the machine immediately rebooted and got back to Grub. Ubuntu still booted fine, but I wanted to get access to Windows back, soI attempted to fix this by running:
Code:
bootec.exe /fixmbr
through CMD.exe on my Windows install disk. Now Grub is gone, and I'm stuck with Windows that still won't

I'm trying to do some network bonding in RHEL 5.4, and I'm not seeing the results I expect. I have set up a number of servers using mode 1 with no issue, but I need to configure a new server differently. bond1 is created from eth1 & eth2 bonded together using mode 802.3ad with layer2 lacp bond0 is created from bond1 & eth3 using mode active-backup with bond1 as the primary interface When I bring the network services up, all traffic is passing over eth3 instead of bond1, which is the primary. Below are the modprobe.conf * ifcfg-* files involved.
My modprobe.conf:
alias eth0 e1000
alias eth1 e1000
alias eth2 e1000
alias eth3 e1000
alias scsi_hostadapter mptbase
alias scsi_hostadapter1 mptsas
alias scsi_hostadapter2 qla2xxx

ubuntu-one is trying to access the keyring @ boot but it is locked. Under Password:default (in accessories-passwords and encryption) there is: UbuntuONE token for https://ubuntuone.com (key id 1) Which I assume it needs As well as 2 others Desktop Coach and one for gmail pop It is annoying I have to give it the keyring password @ boot. I also have Passwords: Login seperate from default This is annoying having to enter the keyring password @ boot time.

this started to happen recently after a reboot due to updates. The screen displays many, meaning more than 12 of: WARNING: Deprecated config file /etc/modprobe.conf, all config files belong into /etc/modprobe.d/ which is then followed by: Boot has failed, sleeping forever.
I deleted /etc/modprobe.conf, so that is not the problem. The normal boot process will display the modprobe warning twice and all is well. If the warning is displayed more than twice, the boot will fail and I have to try again.

I had Ubuntu 10.04 on this machine and wanted to convert it to a dual boot. It's a 500GB hard drive. The HDD had 3 partitions: one really big one, and two swap areas of about 6 GB each. I ran GParter and carved the big partition into a 100GB partition and a 400GB partition (less the swap areas). Then I installed Windows XP into the 100GB partition, then installed Ubuntu 10.04, selecting the "create dual boot" option.
It dual boots beautifully, and everything runs just fine. But I find that Ubuntu has split the 400 GB partition into two 200 GB partitions, and one of them is simply off-limits. I can see it, but I can't write to it. The attached png shows the Disk Utility, with the mystery partition selected. Its only contents is a folder called lost+found; I cannot open it.

Tonight I installed ubuntu 10.10 (32 bit) on an external usb harddrive with a dvd I burned and I used my older desktop. I disconnected all internal and external drives first so everything had to be put on the usb drive I selected (only option available). I used the option to load extra software, use the entire hard drive, and let the software do it's thing. I basically had no options where to put things and it didn't have much choice.
When I boot the usb drive on my laptop (win 7 64 bit) by telling the bios to boot to it first... I get an error: modprobe: FATAL Could not load /lib/modules 2.6.35-22 generic modules No such file or directory. This message appears twice and then it does boot into ubuntu and seems to work fine. I'm new to this OS so that is an uneducated guess but the things I have done seem to be working. So exactly what is this error referring too? Is there a way to fix the problem or do I just ignore it.

I have a HP Pavillion DV7 laptop running Ubuntu 10.04, and I am having some problems with Ubuntu handling a network connection. Every so often, I leave my computer in locked mode overnight to download something. But, when I do this, the network just deactivates early on [there is a symbol of a blank wireless symbol with a red "?" by it]. Both the wireless and wired network connections are deactivated, and I am using a wired connection. This also sometimes happens in suspend mode, too, but less often. I have to restart my computer before it will connect again, as logging out and back in again does not suffice.

i've patched the source files to be installed on f14 and finally got a succesfull install, ndiswrapper -l comes back with driver installed and presentwhen i run modprobe ndiswrapper i get "FATAL: Module ndiswrapper not found" after many hours of google searching and reading various threads i cannont seem to find a solution to this apart from manualy coping the ndiswrapper.ko file but when i use that solution modprobe starts ndiswrapper but there is no wlan0 present in iwconfig.now for some reason even wheni move the ndiswrapper.ko file manually it still is giving me that error. this worked earlier as i mentioned but then i reinstalled ndiswrapper hoping something went wrong but still got the same error so i tried that same fix and i'm still getting that error. i can't figure out what i migt've done differently earlier but i'm not having any luck.

I have just recently setup our network with an Ubuntu server which is being accessed by one Ubuntu workstation with nfs, & one XP workstation with Samba. Following instructions from the web, I set permissions like this:
sudo chmod 777 /media/Data sudo chown -R curley:curley /media/Data The problem is that files created in Samba are locked from nfs & vice/versa. I am assuming I need to add the nfs network share to the Curley group or use something more global than curley to make this work?
Samba is working ok from Ubuntu when browsing through Nautilus, but there is no access to shares when doing things like uploading or downloading files to the web (the "save file" window only shows local folders). So I guess I wouldn't mind just using Samba if I could map a folder in Samba to solve that problem.

Is there a way to get this to automatically run?
