Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Not Working On Lenovo Q150
Jan 9, 2011
Tried the normal fixes and installed the wrapper, etc. Wired network works fine, and I am able to access some unlocked wifi networks from neighbors, but I cannot access my own password protected network. It just keeps asking for the password and never connects. Fairly new Ubuntu guy here.

I am installing Centos 5.5 on a new Lenovo IdeaCentre Q150-40813AU and have been having an issue with getting the correct Ethernet driver. After Googling for a while, I found a similar type question where the following two commands were suggested; however, my results do not match the ones on that thread so I am not sure how I should proceed.
# /sbin/lspci -m | grep net
01:08.0 "Ethernet controller" "Intel Corporation" "82552 10/100 Network Connection" -r02 "Lenovo" "Unknown device 3605"
# /sbin/lspci -n | grep "$(/sbin/lspci | awk '/net/ { print $1 }')"

My wireless network is not working, I can connect by wire, and my wireless network is working on windows (similar like here http://ubuntu-virginia.ubuntuforums.....php?p=9613210 ). When i right-click on metwork connections icon in the upper right panel "Enable wireless" option is disabled and I can't enable it. I can't enable it with fn+F5 buttons either.

I've blacklisted acer-wmi as that was the fix previously, but that has no effect.
When I do an rfkill list it tells me brcmwl-0 is hard blocked, regardless of where the hard switch is. The hard switch is working fine for the bluetooth..

I have been using Ubuntu at my home laptop (Dell) have had no problem. However, recently I installed 11.04 in my office laptop - Lenovo B450, but 'm unable to connect thru wireless.
It is simply not detecting the wireless. I have a dual boot with Windows 7. Windows 7 detects wireless (surprisingly).
I have tried configuring the network connection in all possible way (manual / auto).

I need (would like) to get the wireless running on my Lenovo q150. It uses the realtek 8191u chip for the wireless. I tried the steps in [URL]. But failed miserably. Now the Q150 will not boot. It locked up after the modprobe and I was forced to use the power switch. I was using a fresh install of maverick amd64.

I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my Lenovo T500. The wireless interface information is listed at the bottom of this message.I would like to connect to my Airport Extreme wireless router which is password protected. The bottom of the router lists three MAC addresses with different symbols next to them. I assume the symbols mean different types of connections (e.g., firewire, ethernet cable, etc).
The network icon on the upper right corner of the screen indicates that wireless is enabled. However, I don't get a wireless connection. I checked that the switch on the front of the laptop is "on" for wireless.

I just installed Netbook Remix 10.04 on my Lenovo S10 netbook and wireless is not working. I looked on google for some answers and saw that the Broadcom STA driver may be missing so when I tried to install it through Synaptic Package Manager it said that it was already installed. When I click on the wireless icon, it says under wireless that the device is not ready and I can't connect to any wireless networks, even if the SSID is not hidden. I am confused as I already have the driver and all the system updates but it still won't work.

I installed Ubuntu Netbook Edition on my Lenovo IdeaPad S10 yesterday (I was using Window XP before that) and since then I am struggling to connect to the internet. I think the wireless network device is on because Bluetooth is on and there is a reassuring blue light near the wireless symbol. But the network managers says "device not ready" and don't find any wi-fi spot.I've read posts on the subject and followed the instructions from the official documentation.

what is really a rant disguised as a question, but does anyone have this combination working? My NetGear router shows the connection as allowed from the MAC address in the router logs, And I can see the network I want to join in the list of visible networks from the laptop, but dmesg shows Ubuntu disconnecting with
WPA-PSK [TKIP] only:
wlan0: disassociating by local choice (reason=15)
WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]
wlan0: disassociating by local choice (reason=3)
I'm sure there is a simple explantion that has been sufficiently buried somewhere but after several hours of googling and searching the forums here I can't find it. Anyone want to help out an old man RTFM?
I'm getting really disappointed here lately - things are getting worse, not better. In my case in particular I have this laptop with supposedly open and supported drivers and they don't work, however, the exact same distributuon on a Dell D830 with a broadcom NIC does. under 8.10 and 9.04 this worked out the box - just logged in, gave the PSK and away we went. I can't see the attachment I just uploaded so to include the information requested in the "how to get help" post, I'll put it all here inline...

A few months back, my Lenovo IdeaPad Y510 stopped connecting to my wireless network after coming out of Suspend (it had worked fine previously). Wireless networking is simply disabled, and I have to reboot in order to get it back. I tried upgrading my OS from Intrepid all the way to Lucid, but the problem persisted. I also tried changing my 00sleep_module as suggested in this thread, but to no avail.

I want to switch my laptop from XP to Ubuntu, but right now, i cant risk installing it. i dont want to have it partitioned so i can dual boot, so for now i only run the try-it-out mode. Before i consider installing though, i want to see if i can get everything to work ahead of time, that way im not regreting instalation. I have a Compaq Presario V2000 laptop, with 55GB hard drive and 516MB ram. So far, the trial mode is working great, but the wireless will not work. Ive tried to install the driver, but i am unable to do so. I have looked this up, and i have tried many things, and so far, none have worked.I was wondering if it was just part of the trial thing or not, but it is a Broadcom Wireless BCM4318 driver

I have laptop lenovo T43 with FC11. The wireless is not getting activated (the lamp is not glowing). When I boot to windows, it is glowing. I have tried everything - used iwconfig etc to set parameters etc etc., all without any result, the wireless stubbornly remains in sleep mode. With this in off state, I can not even scan for the networks. When I try to activate it through System->Administration->Network, it says cable unplugged.

When originally installing 11.04 I had problems getting my Ralink 5390 wireless card to work.
Today my computer froze completely and I had to turn it off via the power switch. When I turned it back on, wireless was no longer recognized! My iPod can connect to the network just fine, so it must be an Ubuntu problem. There are no problems with my ethernet connection either.
I researched this and found several threads about blocking and unblocking wireless devices using the rfkill command. Well, unfortunately for me the rfkill command doesn't work. When I type sudo rfkill list or sudo rfkill unblock all, nothing happens; it just returns me to my bash prompt. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling rfkill...nothing.

I'm trying to change the backlight via xbacklight but this is not working. Although
Code: Select allxbacklight -set X
causes
Code: Select allxbacklight -get
to return X, the real monitor backlight is unchanged.
The XF86MonBrightnessDown (fn+some-key) isn't working either, although it may have been working earlier.
How can I further debug this issue?
Why are the extensions ["", "txt", "text"] "not allowed" for upload?
I tried stracing the xbacklight call, I'm including the output, but I can't make anything out of it.
Is there a way to do this via xrandr or is there a lower-level way?

I have just installed openSuse 11.4 KDE 64-bit on a Dell M1330. When I click on my networking panel, it says WLAN interface is unavailable. I've followed the steps in the stickied post and found the WLAN hardware info, a screenshot of which is below:Uploaded with ImageShack.usNext it says to do this - you need to look at the logs, in particular the info in /var/log/boot.msg. To see this, you need YaST => Miscellaneous => System Logs and select boot.msg.In YaST there is no such option for system logs under miscellaneous, so I can't do that. The results of the sudo /usr/sbin/iwlist scan command produce the following:
root's password:
lo Interface doesn't support scanning.
eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.

I could not get wireless connection during the Debian Testing (LXDE) installation and am wondering how I can setup wireless connection now. Here are the details:
- Hardware: Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon (3rd gen., 2015, core i7, 256GB, WHQD display)
- For installation, I used [URL] .... -> debian-testing-amd64-lxde-CD-1.iso
- During the installation process, I received a message that the following files are missing: iwlwifi-7265-8.ucode, iwlwifi-7265-9.ucode (strangely (to me), they were mentioned twice, so 4 files). I was asked to provide them on a USB stick
- I went to [URL] ...., downloaded firmware-nonfree_0.43.tar.gz and put the files iwlwifi-7265-8.ucode-22.24.8.0 and iwlwifi-7265-9.ucode-23.214.9.0 on a USB stick (FAT32 formatted). They were not recognized. Also not after renaming precisely to the file names I was asked for (what should I have done in this case?)
- I then simply continued the installation (flawlessly) without internet connection
- How can I now set up wireless connection?
I'm new to Debian but an Ubuntu user for 3 years. I tried to use commands from Ubuntu (ipconfig...) to figure out more, but they were not available.

i have debian squeeze installed on my lenovo t61 notebook with intel wireless 3945 firmware.
i've installed the firmware-iwlwifi package but cannot get any wireless connection.
i'm using the fluxbox dekstop with wicd network manager.
i've searched around on the debian user forum archives and the internet but have yet to find a solution for this. it seems most people have just installed the firmware-iwlwifi package and then wlan was working.
i had ubuntu installed on this machine before with wlan running, so i know that there is nothing wrong with my hardware.
