Fedora Networking :: Orinoco Silver PCMCIA Wifi Card Doesn't Find Any Networks In F11
Sep 21, 2009I have Lucent Technologies Orinoco Silver 11 Mbps PCMCIA wifi card. It worked perfectly in Fedora 10, but after updating to Fedora 11 it stopped finding any wireless networks. The updating were done with automatic updating utility. The card works perfectly in Windows, I tested it today.
My laptop is HP nx6110 if that matters.
Here is the situation:
When I plug-out the card, the Network Manager disables wireless networking as it should. When I plug-in the card, wireless networking is enabled, so the system seems to recognize the card in some way.
If I try to connect to "Hidden wireless network" (because there isn't any wireless networks listed in the Network Manager) system tries to connect for a couple of minutes, and then asks wireless settings again. Orinoco card's lights DOESN'T blink normally when connecting to the network (one light should blink rapidly and one should light continuously, but both are blinking rarely or doesn't blink at all).
In System->Administration->Network in tab Hardware (hope those names are correct, I use Finnish version of Fedora...) is:

Here is what I have done to get the problem solved: In System->Administration->Network I have tried to connect to the wireless network manually (disabling the Network Manager). I can't get the connection. It gives me random error messages, sometimes "Check the cable" or something like that, sometimes just timeouts IP determination.
I have tried to connect different wireless networks, no connection. All tested networks worked with another computer.
No matter if I reboot or service network restart or plug-out plug-in the card... the problem still appears.

Feb 23, 2010this is my first post sorry if im not clear OK i downloaded Ubuntu 9.1 32bit burned it to a CD and popped it in my dell latitude c600 i was going to set it up to dual boot with xp i already have 2 partions so every thing was ready
i hit install and saw a Ubuntu symbol fading in and out after that i got a whole heap of i/o errors ranging from 350 to 500 for the first number, then a bit later it loaded up the busy cursor for Ubuntu on a black screen it then changed to a cross outline and no matter how long i let i go for i do not change at all off that the disc isn't the problem because it works on my desk top live and install
Debian Configuration :: Netgear WG511v2 On A Dell Latitude C600
Apr 1, 2010I've installed Debian on a Dell Latitude C600 and I've managed to get all of the hardware functioning except the WiFi adapter. The laptop is using a Netgear WG511v2 PCMCIA interface. I've extracted the WG511v2.INF and WG511v2XP.SYS files and I believe they are successfully installed using NDISWRAPPER.
The WiFi adapter's green LED flickers and the yellow LED periodically flashes, which would seem to indicate that the adapter is attempting to connect to a network.
I believe the problem that I'm having is related to configuring the wlan0 interface with the proper security credentials to attach to the WiFi network. I'm using WPA2 with AES for encrypting. The key is 64 hexadecimal characters.

Ubuntu Networking :: Dell Latitude CPx Dynex Wireless Card Not Working
Mar 18, 2011I have a 10 year old Dell Latitude CPx that has no ethernet or modem ports, and the only way to connect to the internet is the Dynex Wireless G DX-BNBC PCMCIA card. It came with Windows 98, and I put Xubuntu on it for a while. I believe it was Xubuntu 8 or 9. Back then I had no clue what to do whatsoever, so after a couple weeks removed it and put Windows 2000 on it. It worked, I used it for a while, but it was slow and 2000 took up a lot of space on the 12gb hard drive after all the updates. I left it forgotten and gathering dust for the past year.
Then a few days ago I discovered Lubuntu 10.10, and from what I've seen so far it is definitely a lot more compact and faster than 2000. However, the wireless card still won't work. It's somewhat recognized, because whenever I unplug it and plug it in a bubble pops up saying "you've been disconnected from the network"... which is odd, since it never says I'm connected, and says that the firmware is missing for this card. Anyway, I discovered something this time. By running "lspci -nn | grep -i 14e4":

Jan 30, 2010Ive been trying to install Fedora 12 on a Dell Latitude C600, (Pentium III 750/600 MHz; 256 MB RAM; 250 KB Level 2 Cache; 8 MB Video Memory; ATI M3 Video Controller) Downloaded iso files from Fedora Project, Verified integrity with sha256sum.exe, burned to 5 CD's. Disc's 1 & 3 failed Linux test at installation. Burned Disk 1 twice more and still fails. Went ahead with installation. Chose to Use all of the 20 B hard disk. Would not install via graphical. Finished after Disk 1. After re-starting computer and logging into root, only get CLI operability and can't seem to get a GUI. I'm new to linux - just thought I'd put this laptop to use to familiarize myself with it.

Jan 26, 2011I am running the latest version of arch linux on a Dell Latitude D420. So far everything has worked perfectly except the wireless. It seems that Arch does not even detect the wireless because ifconfig -a only gives me the loopback and eth0. I installed ndiswrapper as well as the drivers. lsmod | grep ndiswrapper shows that ndiswrapper is being loaded on boot. I tried to install the iwp3945 drivers, but they have become obsolete so pacman was unable to find them. I also tried installing the iwl3945 drivers as explained here [URL] but still no luck.

Jul 10, 2011I just did a fresh wipe and install of Ubuntu 11.04 on my Dell D630 Latitude. I installed connected to the internet and ubuntu recognized I was missing firmware and I installed and rebooted. Now the "firmware missing" notice is gone but I don't know how to connect to my wifi. I can access internet with the ethernet cable.

Feb 28, 2010I've installed successfully the ubuntu 9.10 netbook remix on my DELL Latitude 430.Everything work out of the box except the wifi, I cannot find a way to get working.Using the lshw command, I can see that the interface is listed, but status is disabled.On the Network Manager, status I get is device not ready.As a FYI, bluetooth seems working perfect (I've not tried to pair with any device)as this is the only roadblock I face before enjoying Ubuntu on my laptop.

Jun 15, 2010I recently installed Xubuntu on my old P3 laptop (Compaq Armada E500 if anyone is familiar). The laptop is a bit old, so both wired and wireless networking is done via PCMCIA cards. I have 2 cards installed, one for each purpose. I can't find the dongle for the wired card right now, so I am trying to use the wireless card. I am able to find the network I want to connect to, and type in the password since the network is secured. It tries to connect but then pops up again asking for the password (I know it is correct). Is this card supported by linux/compatible? I tried finding drivers online but the sites that had drivers were down.

May 4, 2011I am running (K)Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 64bit on a Dell Latitude E6400, WiFi Card Intel 5100. Never had any problems with networking. Up to about 2 weeks ago. I do realize there have been quite a few posts with this network adaptor, but non really described the problem I have here.
What happens is that suddenly the WiFi LED on the computer stops blinking, the WiFi connection gets disrupted, and the device is not recognized anymore when checking ifconfig. Only cold restarting the machine helps then... it will work for a while (between 1 and 20 minutes) and then crash again.
On Windows 7 the card works perfectly fine. With Ubuntu 11.04 in Live CD mode I have the same effects (connection crashes after a while). Also tried booting an older kernel, no success.

Mar 15, 2010I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 a a Dell D610 that is running a broadcom BMC943 internal wifi adapter. I've tried installing the wifi drivers off of Dell's website using the ndisgtk gui setup. It appears that whenever I setup the driver the OS can't apply it. It states that the wifi adapter is not on or installed. Here is what I get when I run iwconfig and lspci -n.

eth0 no wireless extensions.

Debian Installation :: Using Squeeze 64b On Dell Latitude D830 With Intel I965GM Laptop?
Aug 17, 2010I'm trying to start using Debian Squeeze 64b on my laptop, which is Dell Latitude D830 with Intel i965GM.
After Debian installation, when system should display some nice background and window which please me to log in, I see my screen gets blank, fuzzy, blank again, ...and after several times finaly all hangs. Surprisingly mouse pointer is displayed nicely and works. I can't use network on Debian becouse of windows authorization program which i can run in wine on KDE. This works on Kubuntu.
What I did already:
I installed KUBUNTU 10.04 LTS and it's doing job well.
I installed Debian Squeeze with options:
- enabled:base system, laptop
- disabled:graphical environment
After instalation I logged in on root account and did:
1. aptitude install xserver-xorg xbase-clients xfonts-base xterm
2. aptitude install kdebase kde-i18n-pl
3. aptitude install kdm
4. reboot
5. problem occurs
@2: Googling everywhere i found several installation guides pointing to instal pure KDE by installing kde-core package, but it seems Squeeze does not have it.
@3: Unfortunately this command did not install nor update anything.
All I want to do is to install pure Debian with xorg and kde core (not full kde package) for later customization.
I tried to:
- generate xorg.conf (X -configure) and place it at /etc/X11/
- use xorg.conf working for other people in web.
- dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
- googling & forum search for my specific problem and for errors found in syslog; with no working solution.
Hardware :: Ethernet Not Detected: Debian Lenny On Dell Latitude D600 Laptop

OS: Debian Lenny
Laptop: Dell Latitude D600
Ethernet adapter: Broadcom 57xx Gigabit Integrated Controller
Wifi adapter: Broadcom BCM4309 802.11a/b/g
Have done the following troubleshooting suggestions from around the www:
LAN controller is enabled in BIOS
dmesg | grep eth0 returns nothing
lspci -v | grep -i net shows wifi adapter but no ethernet adapter
ifconfig -a does not show eth0
ifconfig eth0 up confirms ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
Have done lsmod, but not sure what I should be looking for.
I would post lspci, dmesg or any other output, but as the adapter is not being detected, I have no network/internet connection from that laptop, have only one other Windows based (at this stage) laptop that I am using to write this message, and so would have to type out the output manually.Adapter indicators are both on when laptop is powered up. Am unsure if the ethernet adapter has somehow gone to sleep, and if so, unsure how to wake it.Perhaps the ethernet adapter is defective, but am hoping to confirm this before looking for a workaround/replacement.

The funny thing is that it works fine in a Fedora installation, which has an older kernel and older drivers, on the same laptop. The fact that the indicator light doesn't come in when the physical switch is turned on suggests it's something to do with that switch.

Ubuntu Networking :: Dell Latitude D620 - No Connection
Jul 8, 2011I just installed 11.04 on my Dell Latitude D620, and I'm not able to get an Ethernet connection. (Which in turn means I can't get wireless drivers.) Whenever I plug in an ethernet cable to the port and select auto eth0, the networking icon on Ubuntu's status bar flickers between the obtaining wifi animation and a spinning cursor. In a couple minutes I get the "wired network - disconnected" message.

There's no hardware enable/disable that I can find.I have tried "sudo ifconfig wlan0 up" to enable it, the light for the wifi antenna comes on, but still no luck.I know the wifi works in Ubuntu, because if i load windows first, then reset into Ubuntu, once in a while it works just fine.

Mar 9, 2010I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 running Windows 7 64-bit. It has a Dell 1397 Wireless card with Broadcom BCM 4312 hardware. This is proven by running lspci in Terminal. I downloaded Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit and burned a disc of it. I used System>Administration>USB Startup Disc Creator to make a Live USB from a 4GB flash drive. I plugged it in and my computer booted into Ubuntu with no trouble. The only problem is that I can't connect to my wireless network. The problem is that no matter how I install the Broadcom STA driver, it just says that the driver is activated but not actively in use. I've used Synaptic Package Manager, Jockey, and even Terminal. I've tried running

in Terminal, but nothing seems to happen. In Ubuntu, my computer acts as though it has no wireless card, but the wired connection is fine (except for the inconvenience of connecting with a cable). In Windows 7, the wireless connection is fine.

The Broadcom4312 Wireless Card is not working on Obunto. It has a Dell 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Mini card installed and Obunto Edition Version 8.04 Have phoned Dell and after several calls on Hold for over 15 mins each time and getting nowhere fast i am coming to you guys/girls. Sep 29, 2010I have a Dell Studio 1558 laptop with a 1366x768 resolution screen. I have an LG flatron monitor with a 1600x900 resolution screen. The screen is connected to the laptop via a vga cable.I am using the fglrx driver and have tried to configure the dual monitors through the ati catalyst user interface, aswell as through the gnome preferences>monitors user interface.
The problem is that I can move the mouse cursor over the top of the laptop screen. I think there is possibly some problem with a virtual desktop size of 900px high. Even in the gnome and ati monitor configuration UI's it shows a highlighted empty space above the placement of the laptop screen. This is very annoying as files on the desktop go north of the laptop screen when sorted by name, and the mouse just randomly disappears off the top of the screen sometimes.
Here is my xorg.conf, would really appreciate it if anyone can help me out here.
