I installed the netbook version of ubuntu 10. Problem is no wireless networks show up. So I have an eternet connecting. Only problem is when I plug that in, still no internet. I need to download drivers to make the wireless work.

I've got a new HP Compaq Mini 110c-1110SD.
I've booted Ubuntu UNR 10.04 Beta2 from a USB stick and at first it seemed like everything worked so I installed it (dual boot with the installed Win XP which works fine, no network problems)
But .. I forgot to check if internet worked. Since I don't have a wireless, I plugged in a cable and the Auto eth0 showed up as connected.
Looks good, but I can't get internet to work. Local browsing on my LAN works ok, but getting on the internet doesn't work neither does apt-get so updating is a problem too.
Strangely enough, ping does work ...
I thought it had to do with UNR being a beta, so I've booted from a live UNR 9.10 usb stick, but same problem, no wired internet.
I'm totally stumped. I've been running Ubuntu since 2007 on several PC's and never had any problems with networking.
So, how do I fix this ?

I would like to get all audio working with the microphone but priority right now would be getting back to were i started upon doing that modprobe command thingy the device does show up... also upon following that guide it made a folder in my home directory called soundtmp... and it wont let me delete it, how can i delete it?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have tried several different distros - but none seems to work. The pc is a HP mini 1000 with 16 Gb flashdisk, 1 Gb ram, American keyboard. It had an Win Xp installed when it was bought. Later it worked with an Ubuntu. My older son, who owned the pc before me, will not give me his password. He wanted me to install a fresh, new Linux.
I have now tried to install Ubuntu, Knoppix, PcLinux, Mandriva, Feodora and a few more, using the universal usb installer. Ubuntu, Slacks and Mandriva works fine from the usb-key. But when I try to install to the minis flashdisk, it freezes.
Ubuntu stops during the install process just after I have selected the keybord (I have tried default English and Danish).
Mandriva lets me format the flashdisk, but freezes with white screen just before the install is finished. There after Mandriva can start booting from the minis flashdisk, but it stops for a long time showing the startup screen. After very long time I get a terminal screen asking for login name and password. (I guess Mandriva wants the password from my sons Linux installation).
I just installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix on my MP Mini 1000 and I have run into some troubles.First off, my wireless card doesn't seem to work out of the box. I figured that I would just plug into my router via ethernet and run updates, but then I ran into my next problem.
Nothing happens when I plug in an ethernet cord. I have a desktop running Windows 7 and a jumpdrive, so I can use those to get the files I need, but I don't really know how to fix this issue.I believe my wireless card is a Broadcom 4312, but I am unsure what ethernet card I have. If possible, I would like to just get the ethernet working and then let the restricted drivers manager take care of the rest.
I just recently installed Ubuntu on the HP Mini 1000 and the drivers for the WiFi aren't working correctly. Is there a place where I can download the Drivers for WiFi and get them to install.

I face in getting my wireless connection work. I am able to establish connection with my router and browse router configuration pages successfully. However, trying to access any other internet address (through browser or ping etc) results in intolerable poor performance (70% to 100% packet loss in ping). Ethernet connection (eth0) works perfectly though. Am furnishing the details below:

I just installed Fedora 15 on my HP mini 210-1000, everything is working fine except my wifi is not up. It says firmware missing. How do i fix this problem? Long term Fedora user, I have recently decided to set up a small shuttle computer as a media centre (using mythTV), data store/NAS (so all my data is centralized), mini web server, etc. After installing I had the fun of trying to get my audio working correctly (which I did eventually .. after finding out I unplugged the audio after the second reboot and solved it after somewhere). After this, I got internet video searching working through mythTV using adobe Flash. I then went to bed only to find the internet not working (can't telnet, can't traceroute, can't anything). This is both as the mythtv user I have set up and as root.
The setup I have is:
PC -> router -> interweb
192.168.1.7 -> 192.168.1.1 -> interweb
I also have a laptop (F12) which is on 192.168.1.5.
The laptop has access to the internet just fine (no problem at router / interweb).
I have the only access to the router and disabled any ISP access (no changes in router).
I have the only access to the PC (no changes in PC).
I have set SElinux to permissive (no selinux issues).
I have temporarily disabled iptables on the PC (not firewall issue).
So, I decided to look at the differences between my two machines on the network. Initially the PC was missing the route:

I changed the services on startup so thet 'NetworkManager' was off, but 'network' started (exactly like my laptop). I turned off avahi-daemon, and any other network sort of daemon which doesn't match my laptop (which I have also customized).

I even have inter-communication working fine (I can SSH between the two servers no problems - 192.168.1.7 <-> 192.168.1.5). Would it be work me doing a tcpdump or wireshark dump etc ('tcpdump > file' would be easier for me)?
I'm new to Fedora, I used to have Ubuntu 10 and found that some software I required would not work properly so I decided to Fedora under recommendation from a friend. I really like it but when I installed Fedora 13 on my Netbook I found it difficult to set up my wireless connection.

I have a compaq mini 110-1000 with integrated 3g modem and natty narwhal. I bought a vodafone data sim card, I've configured the network manager but it doesn't work! All solution I found are possible only with the hp connection manager. but I've removed windows!!

I just installer Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Remix on my Compaq Mini 700EL, the ubuntu website says that everything works very well including the wireless. But for some reason the list of connection doesn't appear at all. It just says "device not ready" This is driving me a little nuts. It appears that the Broadcom drivers are installed. I typed lspci on the terminal and it says that the computer loads a Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)
I also downloaded the drivers even though they should be already in it. But I'm not sure.
i dosent get the wired network in my HP mini 2140 to work. It had worked before but today it stoped. I think it's the network card that is the problem. im running fedora 15.

I have a router that is 1000 Base T and two computers each with ethernet cards that support 1000 Base T. All are equipped with Cat 5e cable. Before I had a router that only went up to 100 Base T and I would setup one box with linux running proftpd. On the other box,I would use win xp pro and use firefox to ftp into the other box and download a file. Download speeds went up to 11.2 MB/sec. Now when I switched routers, I expected something like 120 MB/sec but I'm only getting 5.3 MB/sec. What do I need to change?

I downloaded ubuntu-9.10-netbook-remix-i386 and burned it as an .ISO and installed it on my Netbook with ease. Everything runs great. It is fast and smooth. I am attempting to enable my internet now. Usually, there is a little blue light that comes on when I switch the wireless switch. However, when I slide it, it is staying orange.

Other laptops at home can connect to this network and even the Eee PC can join free wifi networks. The problem seems to be only with WPA networks. When I enter the password for the WPA network, it tries to connect for a while and then shows me the password dialog box again. I don't get any IP during this time, its always 0.0.0.0 I reinstalled my Ubuntu netbook remix but that didn't help. This problem was occurring in the standard Ubuntu 10.04 too.

[URL] I downloaded the source code from Ralink and using module-assistant followed the instructions.
I can see the wireless network, it tries to connect but just keeps asking for the security key. I have tried WEP, WPA and no security at all but still no go. All works fine if wired. The F2 toggle seems to work OK, the WLAN is switched on in the BIOS. The "iwconfig" command shows the RT2860 in Ubuntu 9.10 but not in Ubuntu 8.04.
I have a few computers on my home network and I want to get them running at 1000Mbs Both my Ubuntu Machine and my Mac already have the hardware to run at that speed but my switch is 100Mbs so I am going to buy a new 1000Mbs switch. Do I need to change any settings in Ubuntu 9.10 to allow for 1000Mbs networking?

Using a USB drive, I can get to the EFI grub menu, and boot to the installer menu, but from there the keyboard (USB) doesn't work at all. I've tried every combination of boot flag and am at my wits end. Booting using BIOS results in a "Boot error" message, no grub.Update:Using the 11.04 amd64 iso, I have a slightly different problem. Eventually after grub, I get kicked to a minimal shell (dropbear maybe?) with the complaint "unable to find a live medium." However, from other searches, this may be an issue with a corrupt USB disk, and not a problem with the Mac/EFI boot process.
