Ubuntu Networking :: HP Mini 210 Ethernet Adapter Not Connecting?

Jan 17, 2011

The Wired Internet adapter isn't working with Ubuntu 10.10, and without this working, I can't get my updates for the Broadcom WLAN adapter. I have a Realtek RTL8101E/8102E PCI-Expredd Fast Ethernet controller. I have looked for solutions, but haven't found any relating to my problem.

To be specific: Ubuntu 10.10 is recognizing the Ethernet adapter as eth0. When I try to manually connect after inserting an Ethernet cable connected to the Internet, it tries for a couple of minutes before telling me the adapter's been disconnected. The connector lights remain the same on the port as they always were.

Ubuntu Networking :: HP Mini 1001tu Wireless Not Connecting Using 9.10

Jan 31, 2010

I successfully did a dual boot on a HP Mini 1001TU netbook. However, the wireless doesn't connect. Over the internet, someone had a similar problem with his Dell notebook using a Karmic and said that Karmic has a bug that doesn't install the "Broadcom STA wireless Driver" and recommended a prerequisite wired internet connection then the following command line:

sudo apt-get update
sudo-get -reinstall install bcmwl-kernel-source
Followed by a reboot which solves the problem.

I would like to try this out but the netbook only accepts a USB -router connection but my router doesn't have a USB port.

Networking :: Creating A Virtual Ethernet Adapter?

Apr 14, 2010

I am trying to setup a VPN using OpenVPN to allow a secure connection between my smartphone and my LAN. I have been reading an OpenVPN book and some tutorials on how to setup the server side, but I'm stuck at how to create a virtual device. The OpenVPN book says when installing OpenVPN the installer (or aptitude to be more precise) should ask me if it should create a TAP/TUN device. The thing is, it doesn't ask me anything at all. It just installs, that's it.

Most tutorials simply tell me to create a new device in the network/interfaces file. Where is the difference? What should I do now? I like having options, that is one reason I like Linux, but this does confuse me. My second question is about the IP range of the virtual adapter. Should it be in the same range as my LAN, or should I use something entirely different?

Ubuntu Networking :: Ethernet Not Connecting At 1000mbps

I've been doing some reading and I cannot work out why I'm having this problem. My 32-bit Ubuntu Server running 10.10 has a Realtek RTL8111 ethernet card which supports up to 1000mbps. However, when I run sudo ethtool eth0 I get:

Code:

After running sudo ethtool -s 1000 to try and change speed to 1000mbps, the output is still the same as before. Why is this :S?

Ubuntu Networking :: EDUP Wireless Adapter Not Connecting To Router?

For several months I was using EDUP adapter with both my laptop that operated on Ubuntu 9.04 exclusively and a desktop that could also boot with XP. Unfortunately, I have been unable to get the wireless adapter to work again on the desktop. The OS recognizes the device as wlan0, and lsusb shows:Bus 003 Device 005: 0cde:0008 Z-Com Sitecom Wireless Network Adapter 100G+ WL -125The network manager recognises the availability of the wireless network and attempts to connect. After trying for a while it comes up with a dialog box "Wireless Network Authentication Required" and in response I enter the WPA password but with no success. The behaviour would indicate that I am entering the wrong password but I am not.I have checked it several times and compared with the password that works with the laptop.

Ubuntu Networking :: Connecting Wirelessly With TP-Link TL-WN727N USB Adapter?

Dec 15, 2010

I'm having some issues getting connected with a TP-Link TL-Wn727N wireless USB adapter. I have no way to connect hard wired with the computer, but I have another working notebook to possibly download files. However, the second notebook is a Mac, so most of the posts I've found are not filling in all of the answers. Also forgot to note, I am using Ubuntu 10.10. I followed along with this and managed to get the card to find the wireless connection. However, the connection would never connect. After entering the security password the wireless icon would do it's thing and then pop up asking to ok the password again. I double, triple checked the password and it is correct. I found elsewhere that I should probably install wicd. This is where I've run into problems with finding the way to get files that I can download on the Mac and then installed on the Ubuntu computer. I managed to find this forum thread and downloaded this file I transferred the file from the Mac to the Ubuntu with a flash drive and tried to install. First the install said that Network Manager needed to be removed, so I removed it. Next it says "Dependency is not satisfiable: python-urwid." I'm not sure how to go about getting this dependency as it is not showing up in the package manager.

Ubuntu Networking :: TP-Link Wireless Adapter (USB) On 11.04 - Not Connecting To Network?

May 19, 2011

i just installed Ubuntu 11.04 64bit on my desktop. i have a TP Link TL-WN321G (Ver 4.0) wireless usb adapter to connect to my wireless network (i used to use it with Windows XP).As expected (i'd read up a bit before installing Ubuntu), the adapter was autodetected - i could see my wireless network listed in the networks list dropdown, and lsusb showed it too.lsusb identifies "Bus 002 Device 002: ID 148f:2070 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2070 Wireless Adapter"But i cannot connect to the network. When i select my network, it keeps trying to connect, but never succeeds in connecting.

i tried going through the forums for possible solutions, but most of them deal with how to get it working when the adapter is not detected, or when networks are not shown. Or they are for older Ubuntu versions.i use the same wireless network on my laptop (Ubuntu 9.04), and it has a WPA & WPA2 Personal security, with a password, which i've configured in the desktop as well.

Ubuntu :: Ethernet Cards Not Connecting?

Mar 9, 2011

i have ubuntu 10.10 64b and for some reason last night the wired network autoeth01 suddenly will not connect to my router. it is a dual boot machine so i booted into windows and it is working fine in that OS.

I then had a look at the status on my laptop running ubuntu 10.10 32b and that was showing the same message "wired network autoeth01 disconnected" i cannot for the life of me figure this out. just before it was disconnected i had been copying 7gigs worth of data using samba from the 32b machine to the 64 bit machine.

i have tried deleting the wired entry and recreating it.

tried different cables

even changed the router

works with all windows machines connected to network

here is what comes up in lfconfig:

jason@ubuntu1:~$ lfconfig
No command 'lfconfig' found, did you mean:
Command 'fconfig' from package 'redboot-tools' (main)
Command 'ifconfig' from package 'net-tools' (main)
Command 'ldconfig' from package 'libc-bin' (main)

General :: Debian 5.0.8 Won't Detect Ethernet Adapter

Jan 31, 2011

I'm installing Debian 5.0.8 on a Dell Latitude E6410 using the network install x86 CD.

Unfortunately, it won't detect my Ethernet adapter. Specifically, I get the error: No Ethernet card was detected. If you know the name of the driver needed by your Ethernet card, you can select it from the list.

lspci shows: 00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Device 10ea (rev 05)

That should correspond to the e1000e driver. But, if I select it from the list, the install CD still fails to detect it.

Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows 7 are able to use this device with no problem.

Does anybody know what I can do to make Debian use/recognize my ethernet adapter?

Edit: Additional Info:

I think this is an Intel 82577LM Gigabit Ethernet chipset. If I switch from the graphical installer to the console and run lsmod, I see e1000e with a use count of 0.

Fedora Hardware :: Intel Ethernet Adapter Not Working

Dec 22, 2010

I recently got Fedora 14 installed and much to my dismay my Ethernet adapter (Intel 82566DC) didn't work. This is left me disconnected from the internet and made it impossible to install any packages. Googling and searching the forums got me these bits of information: [URL]. From what I gather, the 2.6.35 kernel is at fault. So I can solve this by installing the most recent e1000e ethernet drivers. Long story cut short, it didn't work too well for me. I couldn't simply make+make install it, which demanded other packages to be installed first. These in turn had other dependencies. After several failed attempts and ideas I'm at my wits and end and left with two options:

1. Installing an RPM (hopefully it shouldn't have any dependencies). Is there a site where I can download the driver RPM directly? I can't install and use rpmbuild, because I can't even connect to the internet.
2. Waiting for a newer version of the kernel. How long will I have to wait and how easy will it be to update it, without internet connectivity?
