Ubuntu Servers :: How To Set Up Apache To Work With DynDNS
Jul 2, 2010
I do not know a lot about Ubuntu Servers, but I made one. I wanted to set up a web server using Apache and DynDNS. So far, I have created an account on dyndns.com and installed apache. I also installed another program (i dont remember the name) that had something to do with DynDNS. Right now, I can access the page on my server by using eLinks (text based web browser) and going to the address (myaddress.dyndns.org). If I try to access it from any other computer, I get a page that says 'Unable to Connect'.
how is it possible to serve multiple sites hosted in my computer with apache through dyndns.I am using ubuntu 10.04 and i had setup a dyndns domain as of mydomain.homelinux.org/127.0.1.1 medic. Now when i go to mydomain. homelinux.org outside of my lan i see the default site of apache.
A week ago or so neither ssh nor scp were working when attempting to connect to my on-campus computer from home. ssh was complainig about the key not matching and I figured out I could just delete the config file it was reading the (now old) key from and let it create a new one with the updated key upon prompting me whether or not to trust the remote host.
However, even though ssh is now working, I can no longer use scp. I issued scp -v and discovered a bunch of errors. scp prompts me for the remote password and even prints the message of the day on the remote computer but then just hangs and doesn't seem to be copying any files. I'm sure the issue is with the whole key change issue but I can't quite figure out why ssh would be working just fine and scp would be failing.
I have setup a web server, ftp, ssh with ubuntu server which is working with phpmyadmin and webmin installed with it as well. (I am considering upgrading to 10.04LTS when it comes out)
However I cant get to my website with the domain name that I am using from dyndns. From on my LAN I can get to my server but using it ip address (10.10.0.200) and it work fine with ssh and ftp as well. But when I try my public address or my name it does not work. I am using IE8 as I am using a windows machine. Out side the network the domain name wont work at all, but I tried my public address and everything worked perfectly.
I have recently installed ddclient to see if had made any difference but no luck. But I am keeping it there as it is working and updating my ip address.
How should I set up my webserver when using dyndns? My server lives behind a private router, and I opened a nonstandard port for it (xxx.dyndns.org:6789)I need to be able to access the webserver both from behind the router, and from outside. But espescially wordpress needs to have a defined specific site-url for each site, which I can not get working both inside and outside the router. Inside I now just just the local ip-number, which works ok. To access the server from outside, I have to redefine the site-url to "xxx.dyndns.org:6789", but then it is not accessible from behind the router.
I just switched to Ubuntu from Win7 and want to setup VPN connection to my office network. On windows I was using SonicWall Global VPN client using details:
I've write a php code to upload files. by move_uploaded_file. I've given 777 to the folder. But file upload unsuccess, error log show no premission. I test the code in Centos it wotks. I change the dest folder in Fedora to /tmp it works, but it only work on /tmp. neither /tmp/abc nor /temp. I guess it's a setting problem on apache or php. I also copy http.conf and php.ini from Centos, but mod_file_cache and mod_mem_cache not find in Fedora.
I installed apache on my local machine to test my sites. I have one problem:I created a new site configuration in /etc/apache2/sites-available and enabled it. The problem is that cgi is not working, it just prints the content of the files. (The default location for cgi, /usr/lib/cgi-bin works without problem.)Here is the content of the site configuration file:
The situation is this, I have one of those router cable/wifi. So I have the main pc plugged to the router, the router give local ip for all my network (the others computers connects via wi-fi). Main pc starts up apache under Fedora 12, http://localhost.. works, http://127.0.0.1.. works, http://192.168.0.13 (my local ip) works. But when I try to connect to http://192.168.0.13 from another pc of my local network, it doesn't work. The others pcs are running windows vista.
I go another computers ping 192.168.0.13, responds! From the main computer ping 192.168.0.14, responds! So, there is communication between the machines, but I cant get to work under apache. I tried opening port 80 with iptables, i tried changing apache's port to another.
I have an Ubuntu Server, a dyndns account and an account with [URL]. My DynDns stuff is all working just great - novo.dyndns.tv is the address. Now I need a domain which I have already bought, to be linked to that machine at [URL] I signed up with freedns.afraid.org and now I am a bit confused at what records to add where. I added a domain - [URL] then setup a webforward as follows: redirect from [URL] and redirect from[URL] to [URL] , however if you go and visit:[URL] you will see my problem! It takes you back to [URL] server and says there is not a webforward setup for [URL]This tells us that the nameservers are all setup fine - and its something in my freedns config which is failing.
I created a new virtual host in Apache using Webmin and am having trouble getting it to work. When I created it, I opted to create the config file as a "New file under virtual servers directory /etc/apache2/sites-available". So now I have a default config file /etc/apache2/sites-available/default and a new one created by Webmin at /etc/apache2/sites-available/webmin.1412323.conf. It seems like the settings in that new Webmin config file aren't being picked up by Apache -- when I try and browse to mywebsite.com it shows my root /var/www folder, not the subdirectory /var/www/mywebsite.
Is there a way I can tell Apache to include the new Webmin config file for the virtual host or should I just copy the directives into the default file at /etc/apache2/sites-available/default? It seems like Webmin should automatically configure Apache to work with any newly generated config files.
I have recently developed the need for having a file server and am interested in setting up my desktop as a Samba File Server. The problem is that I need to be able to access it from outside networks (physically I'm about 10 miles away from my home network),o I need to also set up some sort of DynDNS service so that I can access the server from anywhere. With this, with setting up a DynDNS, setting up Samba, and setting up my machine to be secure enough for these types of actions. (I just want to make sure it is secure enough since it will need to be detectable from the internet.)
Does anyone have some material about statistics using ubuntu / linux server, or a text which generally describes the ubuntu server?I need urgent, i'm writing specialization work about administration apache and ftp server on ubuntu 10:10 server, so I need something for the conclusion.
I have Webmin installed on an Ubuntu server. I currently have a successful apache server running on port 80, however I want to create a virtual host on port 81. When I try I go to servers->Apache Webserver-> Create Virtual Host I change the port to 81 and the document root to /var/port81www then I click create. How ever when I goto 192.168.1.5:81 (local ip, I know I have to port forward but its not even working local) it does not work.
I can't seem to get apache to work on a non default 80 port. I've got in to ports conf and changed it to the follwoing.
Code: # If you just change the port or add more ports here, you will likely also # have to change the VirtualHost statement in # /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default # This is also true if you have upgraded from before 2.2.9-3 (i.e. from # Debian etch). See /usr/share/doc/apache2.2-common/NEWS.Debian.gz and # README.Debian.gz
I have ubuntu 9.10 and using dyndns by apt-get install ddclient but when my internet disconnect and my real ip changed it wont update automatically i have to go to computer and type in terminal ddclient then it get update ....is there any way to get it update automatically.
I've run into a problem and I don't know if it's apache or php or the combination of both. I can compile apache 2.2.15 just fine, but whenever I try to compile php 5.3.2 into my server, the first two steps work just fine but when I get to the make install part it shows the libphp5.so and it just stays there and I have to cancel the install because it won't finish.
just switched our company from windows server to linux and everything is going good except we have 4 vpn connections though out the country coming to our server. All giving the client machines ip addresses of 192.168.x.x based on where they are located 192.168.1.x for the main location 192.168.2.x for a second location etc, and IIS could see the clients ip instead of the wan ip and was setup to block all ips except 192.168.x.x ip's and this worked great.
So i set up apache the same way, to allow only 192.168 ip's but i guess it doesn't work that way in apache for connections coming though vpn? 2 out of our 4 VPN connections are not static IP's, so the 2 that are I just add that ip to the allow list and that worked. But i don't think we should HAVE to get static ips for the other 2, that's one of the benefits of using VPN, especially if our old windows server didnt need it.Is there any way for apache to see the clients ip address for access or is there something somewhere else that needs changed for this?
I've got some strange looking requests in my access_log which I don't much like the look of. Can someone take a look and let me know if 1) it's possible for other people to use my server as a proxy, and 2) how I can stop them.
My Server is 8.04 (hardy) and Apache is 2.2.8. I have been receiving emails from Apache each time a new stable release is available, most of which say you should install them due to security issues. The current stable release of apache being offered is 2.2.17
Q1) Do you recommend I upgrade from Apache 2.2.8 to 2.2.17? Q2) Does this come automatically with my regular updates via Update Manager once the Ubuntu community thinks its stable enough (it appears that it doesn't)? Q3) What is the best way to install the update? Q4) Any concerns about installing it into a live environment? I don't have a development platform to try it in first.
When starting Apache I get this error in 10.10 (not in 9.10): [Fri Dec 03 21:14:22 2010] [error] (2)No such file or directory: could not open transfer log file /etc/apache2/${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/other_vhosts_access.log. Unable to open logs So where do I define APACHE_LOG_DIR ?
I'm looking to run some R scripts on a mysql database (engine =csv) from the apache webserver.
The goal is to record some statistics/numbers while someone is logged in, pass those numbers to r, run some statistics algorithms on the passed set of data and output an image file back to the logged-in user's html web page.
Doing this along with knowledge on how to call general r functions from within a php framework would be great.
I would like to add ROR to my web server, but I would still like to keep php. I tried doing this a few days ago, but it made my PHP unusable so that it would ask me to download a file rather than displaying the php page. how to install ruby on rails without trashing my system again.
I was wondering if anyone knows how to make a zone file for bind dns server that points "example.com" and all (by all i mean any) sub-domains to this 127.0.0.1 address. and i wanted to set up a virtual host in apache to use /var/www/eample/index.php for 'example.com' and all of its sub-domains.
Ive read online about webmin, ebox etc but are there any others? I'm using gnome on my server and i did a search through the Ubuntu software Centre but nothing came up.
So here is my problem. I have websiteA.com and websiteB.com. I only have one public IP address. And websiteB needs to be constantly restarted, so both need to be on separate apache servers or instances.Virtual directories wont work cause I can only point websiteA to a directory /var/www/websiteA.Reverse proxy wont work cause I can only catch a sub directory.Proxy /websiteA/ URL...Does anyone know how I could get this to work in anyway.
Im trying to just set up my web page so it can be seen on my local home Lan (then Ill try to get it on the internet). I can see the site it on my pc but other network users cant.
They can ping my computer but cant telnet to it on port 6060 (thats the one is set the server up on)
What's wrong with my configuration its mostly the default with a few changes that I hoped would make the site work.
