Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Get VNC Connection To Work
Feb 3, 2010
I connected from the Asus EeePC (Jaunty) to my Karmic machine using Remote Desktop - Vinagre to the Vino server over ethernet. However despite getting a connection I could not see the changes I was making - I can control the desktop but the client never updates the screen. It works perfectly connecting to Real VNC on my Windows machine.I tried installing Real VNC from the package manager but the X vnc module does not load - missing symbol. So I decided to compile from source but the build fails on making the tcp networking part.
I need a solution to control my desktop from the Eee and am confused as to why none of this works. I have tried everything I know of. I have read the README's carefully and I cannot understand why I can control Windows from Ubuntu but not another Ubuntu desktop (well I can but as I said I can't see the changes just a static image).
I have the "Work Offline" problem: when I boot up, the icon on the toolbar tells me I have "No network connection". This is not quite true, since I can access the first page of any website - only subsequent pages are inaccessible. I get a message saying that Firefox is offline. However, when I uncheck "Work Offline" in the File menu, it makes no difference to this behavior.
The problem is on my Ubuntu Dell desktop, which is connected to the internet with cable broadband via a D-Link router (wired connection). It has worked fine up till now. I use Ubuntu 10.04 and Firefox 3.6.11. I am writing this on my Ubuntu Dell laptop which is wired to the same router, so I assume the problem is not the router. I have tried various strategies suggested in threads on these forums, including editing about:config, changing "allow" to "deny" in some lines of /etc/dbus-1/system.d/NetworkManager.conf and changing from Automatic (DHCP) to Automatic (DHCP) Addresses only, but no luck so far. The contents of ifconfig are:
If I comment out "auto eth0" as well, it makes no difference. If I uncomment both lines ("auto eth0" and "iface eth0 inet dhcp") then I lose the internet connection altogether.
I have a problem getting my VPN to work. In /var/log/syslog I get the following when trying to connect through network-manager.
Aug 17 11:23:42 rofe-laptop NetworkManager: <info> Starting VPN service 'org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.openvpn'... Aug 17 11:23:42 rofe-laptop NetworkManager: <info> VPN service 'org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.openvpn' started (org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.openvpn), PID 3544 Aug 17 11:23:42 rofe-laptop NetworkManager: <info> VPN service 'org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.openvpn' just appeared, activating connections .....
I installed Ubuntu and I cant get my wireless connection to work. I found that I need ndiswrapper to update my drivers following the sticky post in here. However there is a problem, because I cant successfully run ndiswrapper on my system.
I am on a Dell Vostro 1520, running Ubuntu 10.04 and I am having problems connecting to the internet via wireless. Wired connection works but wireless doesn't. My laptop is running a Broadcom BCM4312 wireless card. And it says "wireless is disabled", how do I enable it? What do I have to do to get this working?
I have just recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 and I can't get the internet connection to work. I have found out that the wireless adapter that is pre-installed in my laptop (toshiba satellite A665) has been interfering with the main wireless.
The adapter Ubuntu is trying to use it my WiMAX local wireless adapter which is incorrect. My main wireless adapter is my Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6250 AGN which Ubuntu can't find.
I recently purchased an Acer Aspire 1410 notebook running Windows 7 home edition. I installed Ubuntu 2.3 and my wireless and network LAN connection is not working. I saw on a link in this forum, someone was having similar problem. However, when i tried the solution that was recommended/suggested to the person, it did not work for me.
what I can do to get my wireless and wired connection to work?
We finally got internet in our apartment in China, but my husband was the only one home when the guy came to set it up (on his windows machine).
He connects by plugging in, then clicking a desktop icon labeled "Broadband Connection" where a box pops up with a username, a password box, and some buttons, one of which says "connect".
I am trying to figure out how to set this up on my netbook so that I can use the internet at home too. I have a feeling that even if I had been home when the setup guy came, he wouldn't have had a clue what to do with mine anyway.
On the WinXP machine: Connection Properties state that this is a PPPoE connection, with TCP/IP, QoS, and Deterministic Network Enhancer all checked. Under the security tab, unsecured passwords are allowed.
Every time I turn on my ubuntu box, it somehow kills our internet connection... yes, even through the router. The internet will not work until I call tech support and they run a line test. Then it works again as if by magic. I'm at a loss. A friend suggested maybe ubuntu is trying to establish itself as the dhcp server on the network? I have ubuntu 9.04, 32-bit, workstation.
i have a routed and a PPPoE type internet connection, recently i tried a thing in terminal with the pppoeconf option since the network manager has problems with connectiong to the internet with a pppoe DLS connection, or anyway in my case it does not work. Ok i did the pppoeconf thing i inserted my pass and my user and left the program to do its thing, ok it all worked fine but then i restarted my system and suddenly the network manager did not want to recognize my network it hat as options some weird ipupdown options for connection and when i tried the pppoeconf thing again it did not work. what could i do to reactivate at least one way my connection, if i understood correctly the terminal type connecting and the network manager are two different things. now i am using my router and it should connect but the network manager still does not see the connection.
I have a HP Mini running Ubuntu Desktop 10.04, and I cannot get a wired connection to work. My network card is "Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)", and I have the restricted drivers for the card installed. Wireless works fine, though.
I recently tried out OpenDNS on my wired connection, however after it was slower than faster, I tried going back to the original settings that the connection had (so basically to Automatic DHCP).
For some reason the connection wouldn't connect again. So I thought I'd try deleting that connection and creating a new one, but this still doesn't work. When I try to connect using NetworkManager it just does the 'loading' icon for 30ish seconds then says disconnected.
My wireless still works fine however.
I'd very grateful as i'm worried i've messed up the ethernet port and I need it for when I got University in a couple of weeks
I have a WN121T USB adapter for my wireless, which sporadically worked on 10.04, but after a upgrade to 10.10 I have never been able to get a connection again. I still see the wireless adapter working, and when trying to connect to a WPA2 secured network (only thing available here, I do see about 5 other WPA2 secured networks I don't have access to) using the right password, he tries to connect, with a link quality of about 60/100, but it doesn't connect fully. I ran through all troubleshooters, and the only error i came across was: ndiswrapper (NdisMSetInformationComplete:2524): invalid task
But google doesn't provide a solution for this. Does this have to do with the AP being WPA2 secured or is there something else wrong?
I have also ran some diagnostics for you to see, but switching from ubuntu to windows somehow screwed up all the enters and spaces, and I don't really think they're useful as I have isolated the problem to that one error there.
I am having difficulties connecting to my router with my Ubuntu 10.04 laptop. Wireless works fine and I can get a wired connection when I boot into Windows 7. In Network Connections there is no Auto eth0 listing and when I create a wired connection, as soon as I enter details, the 'Apply' button grays out! Am I missing some permissions?
Here is some terminal output: ifconfig Code: eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:23:5a:d2:1f:13 inet addr:192.168.1.67 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 inet6 addr: fe80::223:5aff:fed2:1f13/64 Scope:Link
These days I wanted to connect to the internet on my laptop using a wired connection. When I inserted the ethernet cable, I was surprised to see that it doesn't work on Ubuntu 11.04. So I decided to boot into Windows and see if it works or not. And I found that it works without problems on Windows.
I have a Sony VAIO VGN SR29VN with ubuntu 9.10; I am trying to make a wifi connection through WPA work, to no avail. WEP and open connections work correctly, but when I try to connect to a WPA network using TTLS via network manager, y get errors of this type:Current regulatory domain updated by AP to:ES
preceded by lots of "leaving channel xxxx intact" and followed by "disassociating by local choice".This Sony is using an Intel 5100 wifi; any idea of what's going on or how to fix it?
I just installed Ubuntu on my windows pc with no problems....except for wireless that is. I have a USB Linksys WUSB54G adapter to access my 2WIRE, WEP network. The thing is, it shows up in the top right hand corner. It even gives me the signal strength. But when it comes to using Mozilla, it is never able to access a page. If I try to Ping something, it's unable to. So I thought maybe I need to use ndiswrapper with my .inf and .sys files from the driver for my windows. I installed it, and added the driver to it...everything went O.K. I check it and it says it's installed and working. Again, I can see the wireless networks, and "connect" but when I try to use the connection there is nothing. I have also tried my neighbours non-WEP connection, but it still doesn't work. So I'm sort of at a loss with what I should do now. I see the networks, can "connect" but can't browse. I installed the drivers from my windows, and it still doesn't work. I used a LIVE CD of Knoppix and I can connect to the Network within 30 seconds and start browsing the net.
I am not able to connect to a wireless network with the HP mini 110 series. When going to the wireless network menu, no networks shows up. if the solution could be described in a very easy "how-to" or just be made into a patch (if there is pathes on ubuntu) it would be nice.

i'm trying out appinventor with ubuntu maverick everything works if i connect to the internet with an internet key or wifi.i got problems when i connect to internet with the android device: when i click connect to phone from "block editor" it says it can't connect to the phone.is adb unable to work when the device is used for connection sharing ?
I am unable to get my wired network connection to work. My laptop sees the wired connection, but will not connect. I am running 10.04 on aLenovo T400 with 3 gb of ram.
I cant get my wired internet connection to work. The command 'dpkg -s pppoeconf' returns ' installed ok installed'. My connection is through a router which is probably in a semi-bridge mode and I need to dial a connection to get the net started. The connection Auto eth0 is setup properly with the correct cloned MAC Address (that of my laptop).
I've also executed 'sudo pppoeconf' and ran the whole series of steps which towards the end said that my connection will be set on boot. However, the net doesnt work directly and I dont know how to dial manually either. 'sudo ifup eth0' returns 'interface eth0 already configured'. I tried some 10-15 threads but none worked. Ubuntu is handicapped without internet.
I have installed Ubuntu 11.04 using Wubi through Windows 7. It seems to be working but it will not connect to my wired internet connection. It tells me there is no wired connection, when there is. I used sysinfo and its not showing any network adapter or controller. I have a board with nvidia nforce go 430, could it be a driver issue. It works fine in windows though. Tried using a wireless adapter and all is working. But why doesn't the wired ethernet connection work.
I'm currently running FC9 and I have no problem with my network connection. Now I just installed FC10 on another partition too try it out, but I don't seem to get it work. I disabled the NetworkManager (like in FC9) and enabled the Network. I'm using static IP, when in go in Network Configuration/Ethernet Device/General, the subnet mask is always taking the address of the Default gateway address when I press OK. my subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, and my gateway is 192.168.1.1, but after I press ok they both go back to 192.168.1.1
As of now, my internet works fine when connected with an ethernet cable. The problem is it doesnt seem like my wireless is working at all.The led light is orange, (its usually blue when it connects) and I cannot see my home dsl network. Is thereany specific troubleshooting steps I should take?HP dv6000 laptopwireless card: Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN
I have ubuntu 9.10 and my wireless connection has been working perfectly until a few weeks ago when I updated my laptop. I can connect to the internet using my wired cable but not by wireless. There is nothing listed under my wireless list. I am new to this and have been unsuccessful in getting my wireless connection going again. I don't even know were to begin. I have a 2wire modem also.
i have wired connection(auto auth) , it was working till yesterday , but now its not working simplicity its not receiving to enter my name and password , its mikrotick hotspot .
I have a fresh install of Kubuntu on an old Dell Dimension 2400 that seems to be working perfectly except for the network connection. I have a wired network connection to a linksys router connected to a cable modem. This connection works on other devices.
Code: ifconfig eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0b:db:b6:cf:09
I have an Acer one with this peculiar operating system which I don't understand. I have had it a couple of years and it has hardly been used. It has always worked well and connected up to my WiFi until today when after it has booted I get 'internal fault. Hal has failed to initiate' and the Wifi connection does not work. I am perfectly familiar with Windows but I haven't a clue with this one. Have found a post on this forum relating to this fault but I am afraid it was double Dutch to me. I don't even know how to access it's inner system let along enter any commands.
I'm currently running Fedora 13, after I updated the kernel to 2.6.34, I have to run (as a superuser) "service NetworkManager start" in order to start my network manager, is there are way I can run this on startup?
Also my ethernet connection seems to only work when I restart/boot up my computer, when I wake my computer up from being asleep, the ethernet stops working.
