Ubuntu Networking :: 64 Bit Rt5390sta Ralink Wireless Not Working?
Sep 1, 2011
I installed the driver from Ralink (2011_0406_RT5390_RT5392_Linux_STA_V2.5.0.3_DPO) and followed the instructions in other threads and my card does not work. I am getting this message.
"$ dmesg | grep -e rt5 -e wlan
[ 14.454006] rt5390sta: module license 'unspecified' taints kernel. I have also installed the Ralink RutilT program using synaptic. I can see my wireless device and many others around me but I can't connect.

Just installed Ubuntu Studio 10.04 and everything seems to be working nicely except I have no networking.
The card does not appear in the Network Settings GUI. The only 3 tabs I have are General, DNS, and Hosts.
A screen grab is attached.
I'm a long time Windows user trying out some of the best Linux creative apps I can find. So, Ubuntu Studio was a no brainer. I checked the manufacturer's site for linux drivers and they are available, but I don't know how current. (Edimax site, not RaLink's site.) I opened the file and it looks like it needs to be compiled and installed to work. Something I know almost nothing about. The card is listed as supported in this forum for Ubuntu 9x but I can't find information about it for 10.04
PS. I have no networking on the system but I can transfer files via USB flash drives if needed.

I have new emachine 1401 and I can't get it to connect to wireless. It does detect networks but when connecting keeps asking for password over and over and never connects. I don't have wired connection at all and the wifi router is not managed by me, so I'm retyping output through my windows xp samsung netbook which works over the same wireless network...
I have tries some other solutions I found around here (install bcmwl-kernel-source, rt3090-dkms_2.4.0.4, blacklist rt2800pci...) so it's not original configuration but behaves exactly the same.

I just purchased a RALINK WIRELESS G PCMCIA WIFI CARD VISTA/LINUX (UBUNTU).
It is supposed to be UBUNTU plug and play out of the box with no driver downloads needed.
I installed it but could not find a way to search the active Wi-Fi networks available like on my Actiontec card on windows xp. The wireless router/ethernet I have is an Actiontec setup for Qwest-DSL and Actiontec is the name of the wireless network.
Strangely I tried to choose setup a "new network" and entered Actiontec as the network name and it found the network and said it was connected to it. However the internet still is not working?

this is my first attempt to get into Linux (10.04 Lucid Lynx), and I'm eager to learn. The problem is however that i can't connect to the internet using my USB wifi dongle (Jensen 25150). I've tried what this link says:I've tried to blacklist rt2800usb, rt2x00lib, rt2x00usb and rt2870sta and to load "/etc/modules/rt3070sta", but no luck in that, so I simply do not know what to do next. Perhaps I haven't blacklisted them the right way? I've typed in the commands and saved Gedit and closed it. Is that the right way?

I just want to setup adhoc network using the wireless card that came with the box but I'm having a hard time getting it up. I have gone through a lot of posts about wireless troubleshooting but nothing has solved it. Left clicking the network manager tray icon always says wireless network is disconnected. "Enable Wireless" is checked.
Some info:

Even with both machines in the same room, I'm only getting 1Mbps when using a pair of TL-WN321G wireless USB adapters to link my main box and my laptop. I'm using Fedora 11 on both machines. It is just as bad if I use the laptop's built-in wireless. lsusb shows the adapter uses the Ralink RT2501USB chipset. iwlist wlan0 rate gives "wlan0 unknown bit-rate information."

I use Ubuntu 9.04 and try to get a Sweex LW053 USB wireless card (Ralink RT73/RT2500 chipset) to work. According to the Wiki list in the sticky thread, this one should work "out of the box" since 8.04.
lsusb delivers
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 148f:2573 Ralink Technology Corp. RT2501USB Wireless Adapter
and there is also some wlan0 entry that doesn't look too dodgy when typing ifconfig.
From this I get that my laptop recognizes the card.
I also typed in some numbers such as SSID and DNS server address in Preferences>Network Connections where asked (although the information that I had wasn't 100% what was asked for so I tried to guess what needs to be filled in which fields).
However, I don't get an internet connection (Firefox can't find server...)
What else do I have to (or can I) do?

I'm having trouble installing my RaLink RT2561/RT61 wireless card. It seems that this driver causes problems for all ubuntu users, and I've tried a couple of work arounds, none of which work for me.

I have strange behaviour on my portable computer Asus UX30. I'm using latest Ubuntu 10.10 release. The main problem, and the most annoying, is a system freeze on shutdown, suspend, hibernate or even restart. For a week I'm trying to find a solution on the web, but no result. From what I noticed, computer freezes when a wireless card is turned off or on. Here are some basic info from wireless card:
Code:

I use Ubuntu 11.04 on a PC clone desktop. With ethernet cable connects automatically, despite compiling wlan0 not connected. Do not know what I installed Ubuntu 10.04 and 11.04 over 30 times and still the same. Try to manually connect to the network connection did not work either hidden and also deal with ipv4 address assigned and neither worked.
1 ) Machine Brand and Model (PC/Laptop):
desktop pc, clon.
2)lspci
00:00.0 Host bridge: ATI Technologies Inc RS690 Host Bridge
00:02.0 PCI bridge: ATI Technologies Inc RS690 PCI to PCI Bridge (PCI Express Graphics Port 0)[code].....
Try setting manually to no avail not know if I did well. Ralink also downloaded from the rt2860sta and then compiled and did not work. Now I went to install Ubuntu 11.04 and change nothing but that which is above is what I have right now in the machine.

I have recently installed Fedora 10 onto my PC, dual booting with XP, and I am fairly new to linux. I have been trying to connect to my wireless network, but cannot even get Fedora to recognise my wireless adapter (Belkin N1 +MIMO). I have tried to follow a few tutorials that go through either the ndiswrapper method or by using native drivers. Because I don't have an internet connection on Fedora, I have to boot into XP to download the files for either ndiswrapper or the native drivers, rather than installing using the terminal.I downloaded the ndiswrapper RPM, and it failed because of an 'unexpected error', and when using the tarball, it could not find the makefile. The native drivers did not install because of unresolved dependencies.

I just installed Fedora 13, and now I figured, maybe I don't know so much about pc anyway. Before I tell you my problem, I would like to say that I know a lot about windows, but about linux, I don't know anything. A plain beginner. And about my problem, it's more like a "how to" question than a problem.
You see, I don't know how to set up the wifi? The pc has installed wifi, and all I need to know is how I can connect to the internet. In windows you would usually just press the connection icon and then choose witch network you would like to access, and then eventually type in the password, and there you go. But it seems it's a little more advanced at Fedora. But I will give it a shot.

My wireless on my Ubuntu desktop is really slow compared to my windows laptop. Its not a flash problem or a browser specific problem.
I have searched the forums but can't find much.
I did disable ipv6 (it now shows up as being 'ignored' in network Manager which is correct, right?) but that hasn't helped.
It doesn't make a difference whether I use DHCP for everything or just for address only with the Google DNS addresses.
After entering 'lspci' my card shows up as
Code:
Because of a problem with system freezes I have updated to the 2.6.33-020633rc7 kernal but this hasn't had any impact one way or another on wireless speeds.
My router is a Belkin WRT300n.

other forums to get my Zonet ZEW1642D to work on my new install of Ubuntu Studio 10.10. None of the how-tos I've found APPEAR to have worked although I guess I'm not entirely sure how I would know. There is a pair of computers at the top right of my screen by the date/time. When I right click there the following are all checked:

Enable Wireless
Enable Notifications
but when I click Connection Information Auto eth0 is the only connection that comes up (which must be the wired connection I'm using to submit this) Here are the things I've tried:

I've searched on-line and through these forums and I am still not able to find a solution to my problem. To start off, I do not know if my wireless card is turned on or off. I am dual booting with windows xp on a dell computer I recently acquired. I am running Ubuntu 10.10. The computer didn't have a wireless connection so I installed a wireless pci adapter from a company called ZONET. I installed it perfectly on windows xp, however, I cannot install the driver and the "Ralink Wireless LAN" on Ubuntu. I inserted the cd, and opened the setup.exe file with Wine Windows Program Loader (I have installed Wine 1.3 by following the instructions on http://www.winehq.org/download/deb and clicking on the link that says "click here".
I am currently temporarily connected to the internet by borrowing my main computers ethernet cable). I followed the instructions on the InstallShield Wizard only to have two windows pop up saying there is an error (see attached image).

About a year ago I had a different computer with this same wireless card (edimax EW-7128g) and it was recognized immediately after I installed ubuntu 8.10. I found this hardware compatibility page, and it says it is compatible, at least on 9.04.
After reading this old guide I found:[URL].. I downloaded the latest driver, and followed the instructions (i had to refer to the readme too, some things were slightly different which I'm assuming is because it's the 2010 driver not the version referred to in that tutorial) up until:
(e) copy the rt61.ko driver file to the modules directory then load it
Code:
$ sudo cp rt61.ko /lib/modules/`uname -r`/kernel/drivers/net/.
$ sudo depmod
$ sudo modprobe rt61
I don't see where rt61.ko is.I've got the information for my wireless connection edited into /etc/Wireless/RT61STA/ rt61sta.dat iwconfig shows pretty much default stuff, no mention of my wireless card or any type of connection, though the card does show up at the bottom of the lspci query. I added the wireless connection information into the "Network Connections" prompt in the preferences, but obviously that's not accomplished much of anything for obvious reasons. Should I just install 9.04? Judging from this account, getting this wireless card to work would be a hell of a lot easier.

I have recently upgraded my USB wireless network connection for one of my computers to N from G. As I am (temporarily) based in China the device (and all documentation) are in Chinese. I THINK it is based on a Ralink 28XX chip. I am running Ubuntu 10.04. Network Manager claims that the wireless network is disconnected does not list any sources This is the basic info that I am able to find (I am using these commands in ignorance, by the way!) lsusb shows:

Just discovering Linux. Couldn't expect everything to work right away, of course. I has some issues with the x11 (the GUI wouldn't show itself), but have gotten around that. Next is WLAN. I have a Motorola USB stick whose chipset i've identified as the Ralink T2501.
It won't show up in YAST as a WLAN adapter, but does in the USB devices attached. I've procured what the sticky advised, and this is it:
