I've ubuntu 10.04 and I can't connect to router wi-fi with my new wireless adaptor usb (ralink 2870). I've tried various guides but nothing. The adaptor work fine with Windows and other linux distributions.
View 5 RepliesI have a older Dell desktop running a older version of Ubuntu 9.04. I recently got a Belkin N300 micro wireless usb adaptor so I could use it to connect to the internet. I have a Verizon MiFi 2200 wireless router that I use for internet access. The desktop won't recognize the new hardware. It came with a driver disc, but it's for windows.
Will this adapter even work with linux?
If so, how do I get it to work?
I just recently installed and have no clue how to get the drivers for my netopia 3d wireless adaptor to work! all the drivers are for windows! I have never used this OS before.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an HP DV6 3143se which has a Ralink 3090 wifi card in it.the only thing that doesn't work at the moment is the Wifi. I tried installing the Linux backports module, but the trouble is that sometimes, my home wifi network is shown on the list of available networks and most often, it's not. when the network does show up, and i click on it and enter my WPA2 password, it takes ages to handshake and then it tells me that my password is wrong. the same password works in windows 7 so something's not working.
when i try to disable and re enable wireless network on the network manager applet, i get a Wireless device not ready or Network manager not running message.

I set up an older computer with Ubuntu 9.10 and tried to get my Linksys AE1000 Wireless N adapter to work. My first mistake was not checking in advance to see if this adapter would work, but I have taken the leap and I am intent on making it work. I ran lsusb and it gives me a device number (13b1:002f) so I know it can be seen and I have also installed indisgtk the GUI for Wirless drivers. I have tried some suggestions from other posts to no avail.

It is just a free and open network but I am trying to find a way to hook up my Xbox 360 to the internet. I do not have a wireless adaptor or a spare router, what I do have is my ubuntu laptop. Is there a way I can hook my xbox up to my laptop and bridge the connections so that I can finally connect to xbox live via my laptop?

Recently I have installed Fedora 14 on my other laptop. It's a dual boot with Windows 7. Everything worked perfectly fine, networking included, until my friend didn't accidently turned off the wireless by pressing a wireless button on the laptop. Since then the wireless on Fedora doesn't work. It does on Windows thought. I've tried restarting the laptop few times, but the wireless still doesn't want to work again.

I've USB wireless adaptor Belkin F5D7050 v4000 which uses a zydas zd1211 chipset. The problem is that I've not been able to connect to internet or even in the local network. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop. Up until about a week ago, my wireless worked fine, but now it rarely connects. Sometimes the connection indicator shows that I am connected, but when I click on it it doesn't show any active networks. Even when I use a wired connection it doesn't always work.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu 10.04 (32-bit) on a MSI A5000 which appears to have a RaLink RT3090 wireless card. So far everything seems to work except the Wireless card.
The problem is that no option for wireless appears in the network manager, it only shows the options for wired connection. This computer does have a button on the front to enable/disable wireless and I have confirmed that is is on, as there is a green indicator light showing this.
Can anyone tell me the status of the RaLink RT3090 with Ubuntu 10.04? I have looked through various posts here about getting this card working with earlier versions of the OS, where complicated procedures with mixed and apparently intermittent results are described. Do these measures also need to be followed with 10.04?

I'm working on Lucid, in HP Pavilion 9730us laptop.
My wireless broadcom card was working just fine until now as i installed it with the Hardware Devices manager, Today i put a new ALFA AWUS036H usb card to work with aircrack. both cards were working together for a while, but as i started playing around with aircrack the broadcom card of the HP has stopped working.
I made a mistake and followed the aircrack tutorial for R8187 / ieee80211 stacks driver, while i'm using RTL 8187 / mac80211 stack drivers, and blacklisted the RTL8187 , rebooted and then both card didn't work. I un-blacklisted it, and the ALFA is working but the broadcom not!
iwconfig shows me only one wireless card on wlan0 the blue light showing activity in the HP card doesn't go on.
Tried to uninstall and reinstall broadcom drivers, still no change.
I use kmail in kubuntu 8.04. Whenever I have a wired connection, kmail checks email and sends messages just fine. However, any time I switch to wireless, kmail just says "No new messages," without even checking. I am also unable to send email over wireless.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI got Ubuntu 10.10 installed. Unfortunately, my wireless doesnt work. I'm connected to my router, but web pages wont load.
I thought to myself, maybe Ubuntu needs to update. So I lugged my computer out to the router itself and okugged my computer in. I went into update manager and let it do its thing. It was PAINFULLY slow. I had a less than 100 b/s. But I let it do its thing. After all 200 Mb's were done, which took a couple hours, I rebooted my system. Now, I cant even connect to my wireless and the internet symbol (the wireless bars thing in the top right) is gone.
1) How can I get my wireless to work?
2) How do I get the wireless button back?
I installed the driver from Ralink (2011_0406_RT5390_RT5392_Linux_STA_V2.5.0.3_DPO) and followed the instructions in other threads and my card does not work. I am getting this message.

I've recently installed KDE 4.4.1 just to try on a Dell 1545 laptop with Ubuntu 9.10 previously installed.
My problem is that the wireless connection works just perfectly with nm-applet under Gnome, but when I login on KDE and ask KNetworkManager to connect to the same network as before, it can't finish the connection.
When I choose the connection the program asks for my passphrase, I type it and then it just sticks on "activating network" and nothing happens.
My experience with KDE is zero, so I don't even know where to start looking. I'd even tried to kill KNetworkManager and try to replace it with nm-applet, but I think there's a daemon that restarts it immediately.
I am having trouble with my laptop's wireless. It doesnt work after a normal shut down. The version is 9.10 and my computer is lenovo T400.

I just installed Ubuntu on my windows pc with no problems....except for wireless that is. I have a USB Linksys WUSB54G adapter to access my 2WIRE, WEP network. The thing is, it shows up in the top right hand corner. It even gives me the signal strength. But when it comes to using Mozilla, it is never able to access a page. If I try to Ping something, it's unable to. So I thought maybe I need to use ndiswrapper with my .inf and .sys files from the driver for my windows. I installed it, and added the driver to it...everything went O.K. I check it and it says it's installed and working. Again, I can see the wireless networks, and "connect" but when I try to use the connection there is nothing. I have also tried my neighbours non-WEP connection, but it still doesn't work. So I'm sort of at a loss with what I should do now. I see the networks, can "connect" but can't browse. I installed the drivers from my windows, and it still doesn't work. I used a LIVE CD of Knoppix and I can connect to the Network within 30 seconds and start browsing the net.

Have tried installing rt3070sta etc.Monitored message log; appears that the driver isn't recognized, though the USB port sees that something is plugged in (when I plug in the adapter, and unplug it).All of the threads miss something; I can't get a wireless port listed under ifconfig no matter what I try. Seems that every method leaves out something (I guess because everyone's box is different in some way). Network manager doesn't help much. I installed Ubuntu on a machine after erasing everything else and the wireless has never worked. It says that the wireless has already shut down even though it recognizes the wireless network and my other non-linux machines see the network and work fine.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a RALINK WIRELESS G PCMCIA WIFI CARD VISTA/LINUX (UBUNTU).
It is supposed to be UBUNTU plug and play out of the box with no driver downloads needed.
I installed it but could not find a way to search the active Wi-Fi networks available like on my Actiontec card on windows xp. The wireless router/ethernet I have is an Actiontec setup for Qwest-DSL and Actiontec is the name of the wireless network.
Strangely I tried to choose setup a "new network" and entered Actiontec as the network name and it found the network and said it was connected to it. However the internet still is not working?
Has anyone ever heard of this card or have knowledge of how to configure it to allow me to get on the internet?

The problem is however that i can't connect to the internet using my USB wifi dongle (Jensen 25150). I've tried what this link says:I've tried to blacklist rt2800usb, rt2x00lib, rt2x00usb and rt2870sta and to load "/etc/modules/rt3070sta", but no luck in that, so I simply do not know what to do next. Perhaps I haven't blacklisted them the right way? I've typed in the commands and saved Gedit and closed it. Is that the right way?

I have gone through a lot of posts about wireless troubleshooting but nothing has solved it. Left clicking the network manager tray icon always says wireless network is disconnected. how to go about getting Ubuntu to receive an ad-hoc wireless ICS enabled connection. The internet connection is shared through a virtual machine running XP (with the USB wireless dongle under XP's control), on my desktop PC, in order to escape my ISP's no NAT policy. Ubuntu is on both the desktop PC (the sender), and the laptop (the receiver). The desktop and laptop also run windows 7. I managed to get my laptop Ubuntu to connect to my virtual machine XP, by setting the IP, subnet and gateway of all wireless devices, as was suggested in [URL] - I did use the Network Manager GUI, but pinging the desktop doesn't work.
Even with the IP configuration, Windows 7 on the laptop receives the internet fine. The next step is getting Ubuntu to receive. I can do any kind of configuration in a virtual machine, such as install Ubuntu. In virtual machine XP I used 192.168.0.1 with subnet 255.255.255.0 and gateway 1.1.1.1. On the laptop Ubuntu 192.168.0.2 same everything else. I understand nothing about networks. I know there is stuff I can do in the console, but how will Network Manager cope with me doing that?
