Ubuntu Networking :: 10.10 X64 Did Not Automatically Install Drivers
Nov 6, 2010
I have the EnGenius EUB-9801 USB wireless adapter, but Ubuntu 10.10 x64 did not automatically install drivers for it.This is why I downloaded and installed Ubuntu because I read somewhere that the latest kernel would have built-in support for the RT3572.I am new to Linux and don't know how to build drivers myself. How can I get this working?

Well I am trying to install the b43 drivers since the default drivers are broken but with the new unity desktop I cannot figure out how. Is there a guide for this yet? The sticky at the top of the forums seems to be for 10.10.

Just upgraded to Lucid from Karmic. First thing I notice after restart is that I have no wireless. No big deal, I probably just need to re-install the proprietary drivers. I go to do this, and it gives me an error message, saying that the installation has failed. This has never happened before, and didn't happen when I upgraded from Jaunty to Karmic. I have an HP dv6 1230us and a Broadcom STA card.
I really need the internet to be working, and didn't anticipate that an upgrade, of all things, would screw it up...

I've got version 10.4, also.
I have a Zonet ZEW2508 USB wireless adapter and the drivers that come with it won't install. Are there any drivers that work with Ubuntu?
Ubuntu does appear to see that it's plugged in, however.

I'm a first time user of ubuntu and any other form of Linux. I decided to install ubuntu on an old Dell Latitude D600. The LAN controller is a Broadcom BCM4306 [14e4;4320] (rev 02). I honestly thought that once I installed ubuntu I would have no problem connecting to my wireless router. I was wrong.
A FAQ on this forum states that I need to install drivers/firmware because presumably there is no out of the box support. I read the FAQ [URL]..Debian and it seems that I need to get the driver/firmware then issue some command to put it where it needs to go.

I just re-installed Ubuntu 10.04 and was trying to install the Broadcom STA wireless driver. It worked for me before with no problems, but now when I try to install any proprietary driver (using System >>Administration >>Hardware Drivers) I get an error message that says: "You are not authorized to perform this action". I am the only user and I have administrator privileges, so I do not know why I am getting this.

I really want to drop Windows, but wireless connectivity and frequent crashes are really discouraging me. I have a dual-boot W XP with Ubuntu 10.10. I do not have the computer on, so I'm writing this from my weak memory
USB Adapter - Netgear WNDA3100-100NAS = v2
The adapter works under W XP with no problems
The router, Linksys WRT54G sees the adapter in the dhcp table
lsusb lists the adapter.
I have copied the drivers from the install CD onto the desktop. I cannot figure out how to install or access those drivers for the installation. I tried to install the ndiswrapper from the software center, but the center shows it's available from the "main" source. I've looked in the package manager, but can't find it. When I go into terminal, and enter one of the suggested commands in the forums, it can't be located. I have a Belkin F5D8010 installed on this computer, and it works great under W XP. I want to try to get this installed, but until I can figure out installation of the ndiswrapper and how to access it, and get the drivers recognized, I'm at a standstill.

I absolutely love Lubuntu on VirtualBox. I installed it to my Compaq Mini CQ-10 without issue. However, there are no drivers for the Wireless or the NIC. Ok, so I go to Broadcom and download the drivers. But, when I try to install with the Makefile, Terminal tells me that make is not installed! Now, how do I install my drivers without make?

how to install the drivers Checking through the linux terminal with lspci and lspci -n, I've determined that I have a BCM4312. But when I check the device manager, it says I've got a Dell wireless 1395 WLAN mini-card. Does the lspci search for only the chipset and could that be different than the actual device?
I've run through the alien guy's wiki that's been posted several times and have set up the WPA key in the wireless directory. I've also seen some people using fwcutter on here? I'm not sure what that's for or how to use it.I think I've installed ndiswrapper, but am not sure how to use it. I've also been using this guys wiki [URL] because it's specific to my device, but once I get to the final step of building the LKM with: make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build M=`pwd`, nothing happens, it says it can't find the directory.

But my internet doesn't work yet obviously, so I need to download the drivers to my thumb drive on my desktop and install them on my non-networked laptop. My issue is that I don't know:a) Where to get the driversb) How to install them from a local drive

When I download the drivers for my Broadcom card (BCM-4312), I get this error message:
Quote:
SystemError: installArchives() failed
Is there any way to fix it, or should I post to launchpad about a bug? I have 10.10. Update: When I install from the Ubuntu Software Center, it completes successfully, but I get this error message: installArchives() failed: Selecting previously deselected package glines.

I switched from windows to Ubuntu 10.10. But I'm not getting along with it as well as I expected I would Specially cause I'm not getting the best out of it due to limited web connectivity. I used to use a usb WiMax modem back in windows (which is also supposed to be supported by linux as my service provider said) for internet. But I'm having a hard time configuring it on my Ubuntu. The modem works fine but I'm failing to install the drivers [url]. I used my cell as a temporary modem to get help from the web.
I downloaded:-
i2400m firmware 1.5.0
WiMAX Tools 1.4.5
WiMAX Network Service 1.5.2
According to the documentation, I'm supposed to install the linux kernel 2.6.35 which Maverick comes with anyway.
Then comes the part to install the firmware. The command I used was
Code:
But unfortunately and annoyingly the result is
Code:
I didn't get it. Am I missing any package or something?

I just installed a minimal version of Ubuntu 10.10 (with Openbox) over 10.04. Mainly everything's ok, but I have three problems:
1. When shutting down or rebooting, my speakers make a loud pop. Upon googling around, I found this topic on the Arch forums. Running
Code:
Before rebooting/shutting down works. I, however, would like to have this permanently fixed so I don't have to run these commands every time before rebooting/shutting down.
2. I can't install the ATi video card drivers. I downloaded the correct driver (10.9) from the ATi website and made sure I had the packages found here installed. I also made it executable by running
Code:
When I run the installer, using
Code:
I get this output:
Code:
3. When booting, I get a message saying something like "intel_ips can't find i915 symbols, so graphics turbo is disabled". When googling for this, I see this is a kernel related issue. Since I don't have any understandings of kernels, I thought this is a little too high up for me. What does it mean and how can I fix it, as it slows my boot down quite a bit?
