Ubuntu :: Need Software Suggestion For SE C902 Phone
Mar 2, 2010
Does anybody use or has ever used a Sony Ericsson walkman series phone with Linux? Well I have a C902, it is not walkman but both have many resemblances... Most importantly they both use OS based on JAVA and use the same filesystem (I dunno the name but it is the most common filesystem in cellphones.) hat I need here is suggestions from you, for some software which could do interesting things with my phone!
Take me as a bored guy who wants to do something new and thought it was better idea to connect his cellphone to Linux machine and do crazy things with it... Well. previously, while I was a Windows user, I had Sony Ericsson PC Suite. It was good, really. I could read my text messages through my computer, even make a call, organize my music, browse folders and that kinda stuff... Well I might be looking something in that context then!
I desperately need to free up some disk space while awaiting better hardware to arrive. Messing with bleachbit's previews, I had a look at what would happen if I went for the Localizations option and got the preview you can see in the attached text file.
I had a look through the list, and the files all seem to be related to languages I don't use (I use English). But it's a long list and I may easily have missed something. Would telling bleachbit to do its thang be okay? Or would it kill my machine. Also, I have had localepurge installed for a very long time. Why is this "localization" stuff still around?
I'm new to Fedora, having used mainly Ubuntu in the past. My biggest (and pretty much only big) problem so far is that I can't find a good enough gui frontend for yum. I really hate packagekit because it doesn't really give any info; it simply says "downloading" and "installing packages" without saying what exactly it's downloading, where from, what's the speed (how will I know if my connection's stalling?), how big the file is etc.
I like yumex, but every time I open it I have to wait 3+ minutes for it to reload the repositories. And if I don't reload them then I can't install anything. Also, when I'm done installing it has to reload the repositories once more if I want to keep using it. Then I also tried synaptic, which (of course) works as well as I'm used to, but some important repositories for Fedora (like RPMfusion) aren't accessible through APT.
Another problem with any non-packagekit managers I tried was also that they don't communicate with the system's notifier, so after installing/updating a package through anything else than packagekit that needs me to restart the computer or a program I get no notice of it. Is there a package manager that would work the way I want it to, or should I just make a choice between using console, using the overly simplistic (in nice terms) packagekit and waiting several minutes before making changes to the installed packages? I'd be glad for any input here.
It's installed as a mobile broadband connection. Only works if my phone is plugged in during boot, otherwise plugging in my phone does nothing. For example, I booted my netbook earlier today but my phone wasn't plugged in. Tethering did not work, it just acts as if it isn't present. I rebooted (with my phone still attached) and now tethering magically works.
I have a mobile phone (T68i) attached to my server and everything works fine. But sometimes the phone craches and needs to be rebooted wich is quite annoying. So I want to use a newer phone that is not 10+ years old :-)But when using a K610i or C702 the phone does not appear on /dev/ttyUSB0 as expected. When inserting the usb cable a dmesg gives this:
Code: [5924924.451033] usb 1-3: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 19 [5924924.576728] usb 1-3: New USB device found, idVendor=0fce, idProduct=d0d9
I have a dell precision m4300 laptop with a 360 wireless bluetooth dell adapter On my system there is a debian lenny with kde3 and backported enable(everythings is p to date except bluez-utils and bluetooth holded at version 3.36-3)
Nowadays bluetooth more less works fine, I can send and receive single file to/from my phone (nokia n70)
The hell begin when I try to browse my phone files from konqueror...with bluetooth:/ I can see the list of all the device near me with sdp://[address]/ i can see two icons (obex file transfer & obex object push) but I cant see or access to any file or folder into the phone.
I also try to update my bluez-utils to 4.60-1~bpo50+1 but in this case kbluetooth totally fail and a see the contextual menu of the system tray icon all disaled.
So I can send pictures from my phone to my PC, I've bought a Bluetooth USB adapter, just a cheap one.
System>Preferences>Bluetooth without the adapter says 'no adapters are plugged in'. With the adapter in I get a preferences screen to find new devices, so my PC is seeing the Bluetooth adapter. I've then got it to successfully find both my phone and my wife's and entered the provided pin into each phone. My desktop is duly listed as a device on each phone.
However, if I try and send a picture from either of the phones to the PC the phone says it can't see any devices and the sending fails.
Also, how do I send files the other way, from PC to phone? I installed Obex but it simply hung then closed itself.
I have installed 2 VoIP programs, skype and xten softphone (X-Lite), skype works well and no problem but on the xten softphone not so lucky, I get to hear the tone before dialing like any phone but can't receive calls and if I call, there's no sound, other side can hear me, but I can't hear a thing.
I need both, skype it's my personal account and xten softphone is for work.
i just tried using my Nokia 2700 classic's internet on my Lynx.it got connected to the network when i ticked the option access internet via the phone in bluetooth setup. But i am unable to surf the net...I am still connected to my college's wifi network which uses a http proxy.I tried using no proxy in mozilla when i was connected to both the networks;but then also nothhing was working;whereas my cell showed the sign of GPRS..
I want to be able to see the text messages that are sent to MY phone on my machine. (I have Ubuntu 10.04, and Window$), And be able to reply to them on my machine. Does anyone know of any software for this?I have found all kinds of software, or services online that allow you to send text messages to phones, and receive and reply, but never through my existing phone. Basically, I need a way to intercept texts from my phone.
What do I need to tether my phone with Ubuntu? I've tried using Berry4All but there's no conf file for my carrier, and I don't know how to create one.I have my carrier's APN and the number to dial, other than that do I need any extra info? Is there another software that I can use to tether my BB?
Got a Sony Ericsson K800i which I tether by USB. I'm having trouble finding the port for the config file, I have used HWINFO and I can see my phone but on the 'Linux.sysfs_path' parameter it doesnt state which tty I am on.
Anybody have any suggestions as I would really like to be able to read my sms messages on my system while hooked up.
I know that using Gmail you can send txt messages, plus talk paying their cheap service but.... it is there a Ubuntu function/program/software where you can phone from ur pc a cellular?
I've looked around the internet for a few days to try and find a solution but I can't get my LG phone to connect through USB to Ubuntu. I don't know exactly how to mount or how it works.
I tried it with BitPim but my phone is not listed. (I tried other configurations with no success.)
This is the output of lsusb

I didn't know that charging via usb for my sony ericsson mobile, w880i actually needs the SE PC Suite to be installed, cos, I used to charge it via usb cable, as mentioned, on my workstation, which is window based, it's kinda insignificant to me that the software has to be installed first.
However, I'm currently on the move, with my newly installed "netbook", I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my twinhead efio 121A (which is good, no compatibility issue) and now, I just figured that, SE PC Suite does not have any linux version, but my mobile is already out of battery, and I desperately need to charge it,
I did run a lsusb, it doesn't seem to detect the phone, neither as usb storage, or as a phone, cos, I saw other people lsusb output, it's an item with "sony ericsson", but my output does not have such item. However, when I plug in the usb cable, it did prompt to ask me to choose between "file transfer" or "phone mode".
My aim is to test on my computer some .jar games for cell phone before installing them on my Samsung GT-S5230. Unfortunately, the result of the following commands is not so happy:
Code: java -jar ./The-Crow.jar Failed to load Main-Class manifest attribute from ./The-Crow.jar Code: manolo@manolo-laptop:/media/DV/GIOCHI$ jarwrapper ./WSC20093D.jar
I just got an Evo 4g(great phone) but when I attach it to my computer via USB I can't access the memory card. Linux recognizes it as an Evo and shows it as a USB drive but nothing happens when I try to open it as a folder.
I am trying to connect my cell phone through a Bluetooth dongle in Ubuntu 8.10 but when I try setting up a new device my cell phone is not seen. I tried reading some guides, I installed everything needed but still it doesn't work, some files are even missing (probably because they guides are for older versions of Ubuntu but i can't find a new guide on it) like.
I tried the following commands: jessica@jessica-desktop:~$ sudo hcitool scanScanning ... 00:16:75:15:14:81 Hill Billy jessica@jessica-desktop:~$ sudo hidd --connect 00:16:75:15:14:81 Can't get device information: Success jessica@jessica-desktop:~$
I guess they work but how come my device is still not seen in the Bluetooth applet? How can I send files? Why can't I connect to the computer using my phone? I don't want to depend on windows for this too.
What is a good app to convert videos in Ubuntu? I usually watch documentaries, movies etc in my mobile phone and need an app to convert AVIs etc with a low file size and about 320x240 resolution. Used WinFF but it doesn't seem good enough
I'd like to add music to my Nuron 5230 phone. I've tried installing gxnokii, tried rythymbox and nothing works. I cant even get the OS to react when connect my phone to the computer. I love ubuntu, its just that i'm a rookie and have no clue what plug ins or programs to look for. I was roaming the forum too and couldn't find anything specific.
I am currently using Ubuntu 10.04 64bit. I am having trouble transferring files from my LG GR500 phone to my Ubuntu desktop. I bought a micro-usb to usb charger and data transfer cable, but the only thing that is working is the charging.I could not find any solutions for Ubuntu or Windows XP. If anyone has an idea as to how I can get pictures or other files off my phone.
