Feb 5, 2010Transfer a file from my webbook (Ubuntu Hardy) to my palm phone.I know that the gnome-pilot application is there and it appears to synch my contacts with evolution however, from the forums it should be possible to transfer files by dragging them to the synch icon but this doesn't appear to happen.
I tried to look it up in the manual from the terminal: man gnome-pilot.This help file is a four liner which directed me to usr/share/ but there aren't any entries there other than conduit configuration files and what looks like a glade gui layout. pilot-xfer just gives me a 'command not found' or equivalent message.

Sep 10, 2010Ubuntu Hangs While Trying to Transfer Photos and Videos From Digital Camera I have a Canon Powershot S3 IS and I've been trying to transfer photos and videos (13 gigs worth) from it to a local folder (I'm currently using Ubuntu 10.04) via USB cable. I've had very little success - I've only transferred one video file, everything else failed, including a single photo transfer attempt!
First it would take really long for the actual transfer to start after I've dragged and dropped files from the camera to a local folder (or even doing ctrl+c and ctrl+v). The progress bar would appear, but then it would take forever before the file transfer would start. In the case of the single video transfer, it started and finished after a while. But when I selected all of the videos on the camera and tried to transfer it all, it would just take a really long time, slow down gnome to the point of hanging, and then eventually just show me an error message indicating nothing could be transferred.

Feb 3, 2010This is true for .flv, .avi, .mov, and .mp4, at least. This is true in both vlc and movie player. Thumbnails generated from frames in the videos appear correctly in nautilus. Videos play fine in firefox, on ....., but I downloaded one as an .flv and then it had the same problem. I have restricted extras freshly installed. My "Ubuntu 9.10 - the Karmic Koala" system is fully updated. I've found several other forum posts about the same kind of problem, but I couldn't find anything helpful in them (like that the contrast setting might be WAY out of whack, which it wasn't, or that nvidia drivers needed to be updated or reinstalled, which I don't have anyway, etc).

Jul 31, 2010I am having problems: videos have sound, but no picture.I'm using a Gigabyte motherboard with integrated ATI video, and I've read before that XBMC (and Ubuntu in general) don't like ATI too much. Is there any hope left to make XBMC work?I've tried the following:1. Fresh Ubuntu installation, default ATI drivers. Result: when starting a video, audio is okay, but no video. Also, visibly slow graphics even while navigating XBMC menus
2. Installed ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX driver via System->Hardware drivers. Result: significantly accelerated menu navigation, but no video still. Note: having no problems watching videos via VLC or Totem Movie Player (after downloading proper codecs)3. Fresh Ubuntu installation, then downloaded and installed ATI's proprietary Linux drivers from ATI's site (ati-driver-installer-10-7-x86.x86_64.run). Result: yippee, I see some video, but wait: no color!! (all videos are in sepia-like mode)
4. Followed these instructions to install the unofficial ATI drivers. Jan 14, 2011It's installed as a mobile broadband connection. Only works if my phone is plugged in during boot, otherwise plugging in my phone does nothing. For example, I booted my netbook earlier today but my phone wasn't plugged in. Tethering did not work, it just acts as if it isn't present. I rebooted (with my phone still attached) and now tethering magically works.

Nowadays bluetooth more less works fine, I can send and receive single file to/from my phone (nokia n70)
The hell begin when I try to browse my phone files from konqueror...with bluetooth:/ I can see the list of all the device near me with sdp://[address]/ i can see two icons (obex file transfer & obex object push)
but I cant see or access to any file or folder into the phone.
I also try to update my bluez-utils to 4.60-1~bpo50+1 but in this case kbluetooth totally fail and a see the contextual menu of the system tray icon all disaled.

Nov 17, 2010I have a camera that produces MOV videos (h264, pcm). I'd like to join all the videos to one MKV video and change it's resolution.So far I've discovered this way how to do it which seems a little too complicated to me:First I convert those MOVs to AVIs with ffmpeg - no re-encoding, just copy video and audio tracks. This had to be done before mencoding otherwise mencoder destroys the video (seems like it's good in joining AVIs, but not MOVs). Then I join those with mencoder to one giant AVI (still no re-encoding) and then I convert this AVI again with ffmpeg to desired MKV with x264 and vorbis.

Jan 1, 2010Having a bit of a issue with Debian Squeeze and transferring files to the Sony PSP..Hook up PSP to USB port and Debian mounts it..I go to drag a 125 meg mp4 to video folder..Copy windows takes about 10 seconds to transfer it..Exit USB mode and there is no video there. Go back into USB mode and look at video folder on the PSP memory stick and there is no video..It vanished. From another after copy progress closed I right clicked PSP and unmounted it..
It error-ed saying device was busy and could not unmount..Looking at light on PSP i see memory stick is still being written to..i wait for light to stop flashing..About a minute or so..Then am able to unmount it..Go to PSP video and theres the video ready to be watched. Debian isnt accurately showing the copy progress...Its showing complete when it isnt..I have to watch the light on PSP to know when it is truly finished.
Slackware :: No Transfer Process Shown During USB Transfer?
Jan 20, 2010using Slackware 13.0, and whenever i trasfer my files to USB, like copy or cut and paste, it will show as if file transfered in an instant,like click paste and poof.the whole 1 gig file transferred in one second, and it wont show dialog box of transfer process, and then i have to predict some minutes and wait (till the transfer actually finishes, i have to usually see my USB's transfer indicator light), if i plug out before or my prediction goes wrong, i end up with corrupted files. This aint related to window manager, as same is case for KDE and XFCE tried thunar, konqueror, midnight commander, all of em resulted with same problem.

Jul 4, 2010My friend bought an old hard drive. He noticed something with the hard drive that it was just replaced with a SATA socket. So meaning, the SATA socket was soldered to the PATA hard disk to replace the PATA socket to SATA socket to make it a SATA.
Now the question is:
1. Does the Transfer Rate of the harddisk (that has been replaced from PATA socket to SATA socket) would be SATA transfer rate? OR would still be PATA transfer rate?
