View 7 Replies I'd like to run a program [URL] from the GUI menu (yes, I know I can run it from the command line). I've gotten this to work by using a menu entry (see attached screenshot).The command is:
Code:
gksu chkrootkit
with the option for Type: was selected as Application in Terminal However, when chkrootkit is finished, the terminal immediately snaps shut according to the profile selection: When Commands Exits: Close terminal What I'd like to do is create another profile that causes the terminal to be held open (see screenshot) when the command exits and be able to choose that profile from the GUI Menu entry. I believe the command when using the CLI is:
Code:
gnome-terminal --profile=<profile_name>
how do I incorporate this within the Command entry line of the launcher?
Where does Ubuntu store the profiles information for Terminal sessions (e.g., colors, title bar menu on/off, etc.)? I managed to turn off the menu then set that as a default and can't access the profiles menu any more.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI need to creat launcher that launches Terminal into a specific Profile..
I found a website that says that this code will work
Code:
gnome-terminal --window-with-profile=<Profile_name>
But, I also need to launch to specific Directory also. So, My code looks like this
Code:
gnome-terminal --window-with-profile=Scripts --working-directory /home/mike2/Desktop/Scripts
But it doesnt work.. I have a feeling I'm doing something wrong, though.
I am having trouble setting up a gnome-terminal to a specific profile. For example, when I open up R-cran I want the title to be 'R-cran'. And when I run Octave I would like the title to be 'Octave'. Pretty straight forward, so I thawt. So...I have been trying to set up and run different profiles for the different terminal windows that I want. I have set up 2 new profiles, 1) for R-cran 2) for Octave, each with their own titles.
[Code].....
I'm trying to launch a root terminal with a profile preloaded, but I'm not yet used to the way gnome handles its syntax, so the default link to root terminal has me confused:
Code:
gksu -D Terminal -- env -u ORBIT_SOCKETDIR /usr/bin/x-terminal-emulator
Apparently, the method using gnome-terminal is to add a trailing
Code:
--window-with-profile=PROFILENAME
but this did not work, probably because in this case I'm not calling directly on gnome's terminal.
This problem has lasted for several months, but I can't find anything like bug report in debian related website.
Basically my problem is after genome-terminal (version 3.4.1.1) is launched, I want to change profile setting such as font, color, etc. However, when I click the button `Edit > Profiles > Edit`, nothing happens (no dialogue pop up). `Edit > Profiles > New` And `Edit > Profiles > Delete` function correctly.
I can successfully connect to a remote Windows Computer using Terminal Server Client but I cannot save the profile (Fedora 12).This means I have to enter the details every time I wish to connect. As I have many different remote locations I need to access on a regular basis is there any way to save the profiles?

I think it's the way the oracle user was created and I wanted to recreate it. However it owns a lot of other file systems as well as the database. Is there a way to recreate or reset the oracle account without impacting what is currently in place?

View 2 Replies View Relatedi have done this once before, but recently suffered corrupted profile.i have a dual-boot system, windows vista and ubuntu on one physical disc (hdo, seperate partitions). i have another physical disc (hd1) that has an ntfs partition, and on it are stored my firefox and thunderbird profiles.when i use firefox and thunderbird in windows, both profiles are on the hd1 drive (email, bookmarks, etc.)in ubuntu, i have the ntfs partition on hd1 automount, so that i can use it.
in ubuntu: i have made thunderbird share the thunderbird profile on this partition (hd1), but recently, trying to set up the profilemanager to access this has caused me problems and while starting thunderbird, i see all my emails for a brief second (in the inbox), and then they disappear.i am using the latest thunderbird from the unmaintained repositories (3.0.5), but i don't have a problem reverting back to an older version...i use it for gmail, so the folder i point profilemanager to is:/media/sdb1/Mozilla Profiles/Thunderbird/Mail/pop. gmail.com/Mail/pop.gmail.com
this is where my inbox, sent items are stored.can anyone give advice on how to get this profile to work well with thunderbird in ubuntu ? i have read the mozillazine help pages, but it's not specific to my situation because i am trying to share a profile i have moved to a seperate location ..
Is there an easy way to transfer the Firefox profile from one computer to another? Both running Ubuntu 10.04, and FF 3.6.Is it just a case of transferring the folders over via usb stick?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been using Ubuntu with GNOME for the past few years and I'm looking at possibly switching to the KDE-based Kubuntu. I know I can have both DE's on my system and even found a tutorial on the Psychocats site for setting it up, but I have a question for the KDE gurus here. Can I safely use the same user profile between both GNOME and KDE or should I set up a new user for working in KDE? I haven't seen anything saying I can't but I really don't want to hose my GNOME settings in case I end up not liking KDE enough to use it on a daily basis.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI work for a public school and we are implementing a number of Ubuntu NBR 9.1 netbooks. I wanted to use Likewise Active Directory for authentication, but have problems with the software so now I'm onto another solution for our problem.
We are going to have one login for all users (Students, is the name). The problem with this is that Website passwords can inadvertantly be stored, potentially compromising users personal data. Additionally, I don't want to have any files left in the Students profile in case people accidentally save personal information in their files.I'm thinking there are potentially two solutions:
1. The Students profile is deleted when the user logs off. This will erase web history and files
2. The Students account is always logged in with a temporary profile (or no profile, if that is possible) that deletes itself at logoff because it is temporary.
I'm having a hard time coming up with search terms for a solution like this, so I thought I would put the question to the experts.
When I write a reply in the forum the information on the left says that I am using "Jaunty Jackalope". However, I am on Maverick development release.

How can I change this information. Seems not to be in the profile.
I miss seeing my picture in the MeMenu. Now that I've upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10, I notice it doesn't display there anymore. Does anyone know how I can add this feature back in? Not sure why this was removed, I thought it looked nice with the picture there.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've recently re-installed Ubuntu 10.10 since I had some problems upgrading from 10.04. The pc is only used to read e-mail och browse the web, so I saved the profile folder from the old installation and put it in the .thunderbird folder in the new one. I also replaced the automatically generated profile name in the profiles.ini file, with the profile name from the old installation. I used this method once before, and back then I just started Thunderbird and it found all mails and contacts and so on. This time, it only shows the "Mail Account Setup" dialog box, in which you're supposed to fill in your accout information.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWe have a stripped down version of Ubuntu 10.04 with no menu options for security. On the admin profile we have set up a terminal window for editing or adding users.We have created a second user with no admin privileges which we want to make the default on start up. This account is set to auto-login and takes them to a generic screen with just one icon to select and do anything with. I need to make this user the default on start up instead of the admin account as we do not want users knowing there is anything else available.When using the $ :users-admin in the terminal window to build the other account I have no option to make one or the other default. Is this done from the command line or is there another way of making this happen?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been using the KDE version of Jaunty Jackalope since it came out last spring, installing it on several different machines. Each time, I make a series of changes to the profile settings in konsole to make it look and act the way I like. Recently, I've installed JJ on yet another machine and I find myself reluctant to tackle the tedious job of changing those profile setting, one by one, yet again.
It occurs to me that the settings are probably kept in a file someplace, and that I might be able simply to copy that file from a machine on which I have the settings already in place, and paste it onto the new machine. I've tried making a minor change in the profile, then looking for a file that's time-stamped at that moment, but I haven't found anything in the places I've looked.
I want to append following text to my profile file from script:
JAVA_HOME="/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun"
CATALINA_HOME="/usr/share/tomcat6"
CATALINA_BASE="/var/lib/tomcat6"
ANT_HOME="/usr/share/ant"
export JAVA_HOME CATALINA_HOME CATALINA_BASE ANT_HOME
Kindly let me know how can I accomplish this?
I was reading some threads this morning and saw mention of the envy script. I wondered if it would make a big difference in graphics (nothing was wrong just curious is all) and downloaded the script. I ran it and there was only one listing for an ATI driver. I installed it and upon reboot I a notification pops up in place of my desktop. It says something about having to use low-res. The thing is it won't even use low-res. I get a box with three choices on it. Use the default, create a new profile, ***something else I forget*** and none of these logs me into desktop.
I blindly checked through some of the boxes and saw some logs. I'm using my dual-boot to type this message. This is on my R51e that has an ATI X200M card. What do I do?
EDIT: So upon reading some threads it seems I will most likely have to reinstall the OS? Am I allowed to throw a temper tantrum here???
I implore anyone who knows how to remove that 8.66***some other numbers*** driver and go back to the default one! I don't think I'll be mucking around with these types of things again!
I appear to be experiencing an annoying issue with my soundcard. As you can see from the images below, the soundcard is detected, but not when it comes to the "output". This is only affecting one user (my admin account is fine, as was a new user set up to test it).
I've looked at this page and have attempted reinstalling alsa, but to no success.
The results from aplay -l are:

Evolution is asking me to set up a new profile each time I log out or restart my computer. I'm using Lucid, but I'm not sure it's a Lucid problem. I can back up my profile and then restore it and everything is fine.
