Ubuntu :: Where Konsole Profile Settings Stored?

Feb 5, 2010

I've been using the KDE version of Jaunty Jackalope since it came out last spring, installing it on several different machines. Each time, I make a series of changes to the profile settings in konsole to make it look and act the way I like. Recently, I've installed JJ on yet another machine and I find myself reluctant to tackle the tedious job of changing those profile setting, one by one, yet again.

It occurs to me that the settings are probably kept in a file someplace, and that I might be able simply to copy that file from a machine on which I have the settings already in place, and paste it onto the new machine. I've tried making a minor change in the profile, then looking for a file that's time-stamped at that moment, but I haven't found anything in the places I've looked.

Software :: Compiler Flags Are Not Used When Stored In /etc/profile

Apr 10, 2010

Running Vector Linux 6.0 light (icewm). I've always set my compiler flags at the end of my profile file in etc folder (/etc/profile). They always worked whenever it came to compiling any application (./configure && make). Since I installed vector linux they don't. I used mostly slackware in the past then switched to absolute linux. Loved it but then it got old + on reinstall it crashed on bootup with horizontal corruption on bottom half of screen! Don't know why cause everything was the same!

So obviously vector linux works somewhat different as my compiler settings are stored the same way I've always stored them in /etc/profile but they aren't being used-enforced.

Hell I even made a #/bin/bash file with | CFLAGS="blah" CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}" && export CFLAGS CXXFLAGS | but after making it executable they don't wanna stick. Not sure if it was done before the ./configure part of compiling though... Even if it did work it's still not the set it and forget it that I've always had with past slackware installs

How do I tell vector linux to use my compiler flags without having to make it work but typing in console | CFLAGS="-O2 -march=prescott -mtune=prescott -pipe -ffast-math -fmerge-all-constants -funswitch-loops -mmmx -msse -msse2 -msse3 -fomit-frame-pointer" CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}" && export CFLAGS CXXFLAGS ./configure | everytime I wanna compile something?

I can login-stay in real-mode terminal console incase I feel like doing things outside of X. I like vector linux but I wish it was more slackware like. It seems a bit proprietary for being like slackware.

OpenSUSE :: Font Settings In Konsole (11.3, KDE4.4.4)?

Jan 2, 2011

Whenever I open a Konsole via the control panel widget the font in the console window is Monospace 8. Increasing the font via settings remains in place only for the time the window is active. When opening Konsole again the font is set to tiny Monospace 8 again. I have checked the settings in the *.profile files in ~ /.kde4/share/apps/konsole. They all contain my preferred font. Still, Monospace 8 comes up. Where else should I look. I have checked all *.rc files too, that are related to konsole.

General :: Where Are Kooka Settings Stored

Feb 24, 2010

where the Kooka settings file(s) are stored? I screwed up the appearance of my Kooka window, and have been unable to revert, so I would like to delete the Kooka settings file in hopes of starting over. (I tried uninstalling Kooka, but it didn't help--the settings weren't deleted.) I only know it's somewhere in my home folder, because I opened Kooka in another user account, and found the default settings there.

Ubuntu :: No Access To Home - All Profile Settings Disappeared After Password Change

Aug 9, 2011

after a period of 3 months I had to change my ubuntu account password on my workstation.

Immediately after the change it seemed to work fine, but when I rebooted all the icons on the desktop, my personal data and themes account settings were gone.

I got an error that there was a problem with a file in my home directory. (I think .ICAccount or s.th like that) I don't remember the correct name, because I bypassed it using chmod 755 on my home directory.

No I dont get any error message but the files in my home folder and all settings are still gone.

There is a README.txt in my home folder:

Quote:

THIS DIRECTORY HAS BEEN UNMOUNTED TO PROTECT YOUR DATA.

From the graphical desktop, click on: "Access Your Private Data"
or

From the command line, run: ecryptfs-mount-private

I can mount it by using the command but that doesn't fix the settings problem and the data that was previously stored on my Desktop doesn't apper. I also dont want to have an encrypted home directory. I didn't use that before. I'm using the whole disk LVM encryption that I applied using the alternate installation cd.

Oct 20, 2010

I have machine that I used to VNC to on my network with Remote Desktop Viewer from my Fedora 12. When I first connected I checked the checkbox that I wanted to store the pw. Now the pw on the other machine has changed but Remote Desktop Viewer does not ask for a new password, it just gives me a black screen, like I am connected but I can't see anything. I'd like to know if anyone knows where this pw data is stored on the system so I can start fresh. I already tried uninstalling Remote Desktop Viewer and installing it again.

Ubuntu :: Konsole Doesn't Use Liberation Mono

May 19, 2010

I have set the konsole font to liberation mono, but I'm reasonably sure that the font that konsole is actually using is not liberation mono. It looks very different from the font used by xterm, emacs, gnome-terminal, etc.

Is there some font mapping hidden away somewhere that is overriding my choice?

Ubuntu :: Change File Permission Settings To Force All Documents To Inherit Parent Document Settings?

Aug 21, 2011

i have a computer with 3 users on it, and a folder using samba that everyone on the network has access to. Lets say that, the folder is stored in /etc/sharedfolder. What happens is, when user1 puts a folder in it, then logs off, user 2 attempts to modify it and fails, because permission is set to 755, and they are not in the same group. (even if they were, it should still need to be 775) Anyway, my current solution is, every 5 minutes a crontab changes permission like so: chmod 777 -R /etc/sharedfiles && chown useradmin:superadmin -R /etc/sharedfiles Which works, but seeing as there is getting close to a gig in there, this is a bad solution, as it eats up the computers resources. Solutions that i think might work:

1) create a script that only changes permissions that need be changed.
2) change file permission settings to force all documents to inherit parent document settings

General :: KDE Konsole Can't Run Some Commands

I just started having some problem after switching my desktop manager from GNome to KDE. One of such situation is the konsole on KDE not running popular commands like ifconfig that I run when I was using GNome.
Although, I have fallen in love with KDE, I am feeling a little bereaved of some feature. where I could use KDE to mastery? (Because I want to believe that I am not doing somethings I should and not that KDE is so limited)

Slackware :: Vim Not Compatible With Konsole?

Sep 29, 2010

Nobody else seems to be reporting this, so I guess it's down to my setup in some way, but when I run vim from a konsole window under KDE 4.3.3, I find that the konsole screen messes up during the session (feels as if it is writing with background colour on the background or something) and even when you leave vim by typing the right exit commands, display remains upset (most often confined to leftmost 20-30 columns). Konsole "clear and reset" does not help, I have to close the session and start a new instance.

Maybe connected to the konsole settings I use which are "black on light yellow"?

Should I have something in by .vimrc or konsole configuration to fix this ?

OpenSUSE :: Bold 'Konsole' Fonts Get Cut Off?

Jul 30, 2010

Got a problem with fonts in 'Konsole'-windows. 'Bold' fonts are being cut off at the last letter. Sometimes only half the letter is visible, sometimes the letter is completely invisible. No problems with fonts in xterm. Set the standards in '/etc/DIR_COLORS', but the problem still exists in (for example):

- man-pages (headings)
- perldoc (headings)
- vi (infos at bottom, like -- INSERT --)
- ...

Is there a solution to turn off bold fonts in Konsole completely? Would be my favourite! I'm using OpenSUSE 11.3, KDE 4.4.4 "release 2"...
