Evolution is asking me to set up a new profile each time I log out or restart my computer. I'm using Lucid, but I'm not sure it's a Lucid problem. I can back up my profile and then restore it and everything is fine.
View 1 RepliesI found much of the info is out of date. I installed Lucid - my /home was on a separate partition so I did not format it to keep the original settings and mail. When trying to send/receive mail, Evolution now asks for the old login password from the previous install to open the mail keyring. "The password you use to login no longer matches that of your login keyring" There is a box to enter the old PW.
SOLUTION:
-Go to Applications-Accessories-Passwords and Encryption Keys
-Right click on Passwords:login
-Select Change Password
-Type your old login password in the "Old Password" field
-Type your new password in both the Password: and Confirm: fields.
-Click OK
-REBOOT
Evolution will now use your new login password to access the keyring.
we're switching some of our workstations over to Ubuntu 10.04. For the most part, the change has been good. But.... Evolution just doesn't seem to work very well at all. We're using Google apps with our domain, and our connection is quite slow (512/128 VSAT for ~45 users). Evolution has a lot of problems sending and receiving email. I don't know if it's because of the slow connection, but before, we didn't seem to have problems with Outlook. I'm using the Mail.app on my Mac, and it sending/receiving is slow, but things eventually get through.
On the Ubuntu computers, Evolution really seems to get hung up on sending. It just sits there. I've had one user where their messages just sat for a day and never got sent. When I went in to look at it, I canceled, started the process again, and it asked for the SMTP password (which it seems to do a lot). Once it had the password, it was able to send. Receiving, however, was still very very slow and usually nothing comes in (although there are clearly new messages).
I've already gotten into the .mozilla folder and found the profiles.ini file. My windows XP system has it's Documents and Settings folder on a seperate drive (D:Documents and settings) And I've located the profile (application datamozillafirefoxprofiles) Now all I need to do is put the path into the profiles.ini file in the .mozilla folder in Ubuntu. The problem is I don't know exactly how to format it.

How do I share default profile file by NIS so that I do not have to setup profile in every NIS clients?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just finished the upgrade of the latest version and I'm at the point of my system restating.
My system automatically tried to restart but on the restart I got the 'terminal' view. It stopped when asking for my username (it never normally asks for this before the grub menu) and then password. I didn't get any further than that.
I now have on my screen (still in the terminal view before the grub menu)

I have a suspend problem in my laptop. Sometimes, when resuming from suspend, the network adapter is down (that is, the network does not work and the light of the network adapter is off). Restarting the network service doesn't work, because I think that the system forgot about the hardware, and probably the driver should be reloaded.Does anyone knows how to do that?(ps. /etc/init.d/networking restart does not work, because the hardware driver is not being recognized anymore).

I just noticed that it is available for SUSE, and figured that since KDE is the principal desktop supported by KDE the SUSE version may be fixed. Before I go through the very tedious process of getting the SUSE version to compile on Fedora, I'd like to know whether anyone has seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution:It ignores font control from the KDE Settings->Applications Appearance window, both KDE font control and GTK+ font control, also its own internal font control window.
It has trouble sending messages to an SMTP server, sometimes taking a l-o-n-g time, sometimes timing out. This can be temporarily cured by restarting it It crashes when a filter attempts to refile an outgoing message. It often asks if I want to recover messages that have never been lost. It often locks up receiving mail from a remote POP3 server. I can live with these, except for items 1 and 2, since I have workarounds. If you are fairly sure that you have not seen these problems with the SUSE version of Evolution
I had configured the evolution to send/recive email. After it had been configured, it could receive emails. Suddendly it can't fetch email anymore. In the inbox of evolution, there were about 200 emails. There are maybe 5K emails in the server, I guessed. I'm not sure whether it's the problem that there's one email in the server too big, so the evolution can not fetch it. The error of evolution is: error while fetching email. Evolution version: Evolution 2.28.0. OS version: Linux xxx2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686.PAE #1 SMP Wed Mar 3 04:57:21 UTC 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux I'm sure my network is fine, I use pop3 to receive email.

Because the exchange plugin didn't work i uninstalled evolution and removed the ppa. Now when i try to install evolution from the software centre i get this: Package dependencies cannot be resolved This error could be caused by required additional software packages which are missing or not installable. Furthermore there could be a conflict between software packages which are not allowed to be installed at the same time.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhenever I choose "Restart" from the GDM screen, GDM appears to shutdown, and the first TTY is displayed with a login prompt at the bottom (assuming I haven't used that TTY). I am by no estimation a patient individual, but I waited a solid minute or two for something to happen, but nothing ever did. I end up logging in as root on that TTY and running "shutdown -r now" to get the job done. This is a shared computer, and ideally any user should be able to perform shutdown options graphically from GDM.The only mentioned workaround doesn't apply to me as I am using the nvidia driver, not intel.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using Fedora 14, which has Evolution 2.32.1 but have recently also installed openSUSE 11.3, which has Evolution 2.30.1.2. I would like to make openSUSE my primary distribution, and so I would like to restore my Evolution settings from Fedora, but Evolution complains that the backup file is invalid. I have tried copying the folders in the backup to their appropriate locations in openSUSE with no luck. I have also tried manually copying with instructions for older versions of openSUSE, but with no luck.
An obvious guess at what might be the problem seems to be that I am trying to restore settings from a newer version to an older version? An obvious thing to try would be to upgrade to Evolution 2.32, but Evolution has a long list of dependencies so before jumping into that fun I thought I would ask if anyone else has had similar problems and found a straight-forward solution. I still have access to my emails in Fedora so this is not hugely pressing, and if upgrading to 11.4 will do the trick then I can just wait for that.
Anyone know why GMOUNT.ISO asks for a password? It asks a regular user for the root password.Is there a way to disable this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had some problems with Gwibber, so I uninstalled and tried to reinstall, but it won't pull from the network, instead it asks for the disc. If I put the disc in, the installation cycle (for whatever reason) will constantly mount and unmount and continuously ask for the disc again. How would I go about adding Gwibber again?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI can't use synaptic. Starting it from the gui appears to make it ask for the root password (of which there is none!). If i sudo synaptic, it starts fine with the appropriate privileges.
I ran into this problem first when I used rhythmbox for the first time. It needed to install plugins for my mp3s, but I can't authenticate into synaptic. The dialogue asks for "Password for root:", where I think it should ask for "Password for $USER:"
Why is this, and what can I do about it.
PS, This is a fresh install of 10.10. When transferring my old userfiles over from my old Karmic install I had to userdel the user I used when installing, and then create another user with the same name and details. The reasons for this escape me at the moment, and no doubt were entirely of my own making, but that's what happened. Has this got something to do with it?

I can successfully play h264 and vc1 encoded HD videos with vdpau acceleration using Gnome MPlayer or SMplayer, but in order to accomplish this, I have to provide -vc ffh264vdpau/ffvc1vdpau as an extra argument for MPlayer. Now this totally sucks as I have to manually type this in for HD videos and remove for all others every single time... What's worse is that I have to know what the video is in advance so I first need to analyze it before playing.So, I figured that if there's a way to tell MPlayer to aways use ffh264vdpau codec for h264 and ffvc1vdpau for vc1 videos, I'd be free to just click and watch.

I do like a lot of the changes they've made in Lucid (especially the aesthetic ones), but there is one change they made that I don't like, and I can't figure out how to get around it. I have Ubuntu set so that, after 10 minutes or so of inactivity, my screen is blanked, in order to save power. In Lucid, though, whenever I come back to my computer after the screen has been blanked, it requires me to entire my password in order to resume use of my computer. Is there any way I can turn this off?
This next question is unrelated, but I do still feel the need to ask. Why, exactly, did they move the minimize/maximize/close buttons from the top-right corner of the window to the top-left? I know that it probably feels natural to Mac users, but every previous version of Ubuntu has had these buttons in the top-right corner.....why on earth did they feel the need to change it? I've been using Ubuntu for a while now, and it's kind of annoying. Surely most people who've been using Ubuntu for a while were thrown off by this, as well? I doubt that there is any way to change it, but does anyone know if there is?
I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 and trying to install a printer over the network which is plugged into a Windows 7 machine. I can see the workgroup fine and the computer fine on the network, but when I try to double-click on the computer (both via the nautilus and the printer setup route), it asks me for a username, workgroup and password.
I tried the account's username and password and username "Guest" with no password but neither worked. The weird thing is that when I booted my machine into Windows XP and tried to install the same printer, it never asked me for a username and password and installed just fine. Why is Samba/Ubuntu asking me for the Windows 7 password when Windows XP didn't need it?
I'm new to Linux altogether. I installed World of Warcraft and have it running, but my framerates are low. I have it set to run in OpenGL already, so I figured I'd try to update my graphics driver. I downloaded the driver and it's a .run file. I have it set to run as an executable. When I run the file, I get a window that asks for my password. I input my password and press enter. Shortly, I get a window that says I need to run this file as super user. I tried to go into the command line and I typed "sudo home/nicholas/downloads/ati-driver-installer-10-8-x86.x86_64.run". I put in my password and Konsole tells me "run: command not found". How would I run this file in Konsole using super user?

However it displays the Ubiquity page "Ready to Install" (I am using the kubuntu ubiquity package) and I have to click the button install for it to start. How can I get it to skip this and just start installing?

I seem to remember there is a section for questions about other distros but I can't find it anymore. I have made a live usb from a Debian testing live image (.img) using the dd command. It all worked well and it booted flawlessly. But then when it booted into the Debian screen it asked for my user name and password. I never set any user name and password so of course I couldn't log in.

I verified connection, correct password and modem & router functionality but still will not re-connect. After re-boot problem is resolved for another day or two.
