I have multiple profiles stored in my Linux Server and one of them is Corrupted,When it boot up it doesnt bring the customised applications.All the image has been stored in the server and Worksations boot from the network and gets the image from server.How do i fix it.

My windows XP system has it's Documents and Settings folder on a seperate drive (D:Documents and settings) And I've located the profile (application datamozillafirefoxprofiles) Now all I need to do is put the path into the profiles.ini file in the .mozilla folder in Ubuntu. The problem is I don't know exactly how to format it.

I have tried the Terminal, Synaptic Manger, and the Add/Remove and still keep getting this same error. View 8 Replies View RelatedI'd like to report an issue I've had with Ubuntu server ISO. I downloaded ubuntu-9.10-server-i386.iso by HTTP on ubuntu's website and burned it on a CD. It doesn't work well. I got an error in udevadm sys/devices/pci0000 etc. it was a problem with the hardware, but it seems that it's the ISO that is corrupted. I checked the MD5 checksum and it's not good. Then I download the same ISO a second time (by HTTP) and same problem.
So it seems to me that the ubuntu-9.10-server-i386.iso that we can download by HTTP is not the same as the torrent one. Maybe I'm wrong. Anyway, if I'm right I hope this information will be useful for administrators.

I've tried to follow online tutorials about Samba PDC, I don't think I finished it well in CentOS 5.6 because when I tried to browse the profiles folder of the users in the home directory, the files doesnt appear. Actually the windows xp pc needs to restart before I can see the files, why is that? One more question, how can I transfer the profile directory from another CentOS box that will act as the storage of the roaming profile of the users? I use this in configuration smb.conf

I have a question about the sun cobalt qube 3 it runs linux 2.2 on it and we use it as an email server where we work. Everybody has outlook 2003 installed on there machines and recently we have been repeatedly gettingg problems with people getting the message [SYS/PERM] Unable to process From lines (envelopes), change recognition modes or check for corrupted mail drop. At first we just deleted there mail drop file and created a new one. But that is starting to get repetitive. So then we made sure everyone was archiving there emails and the server timeouts were above 3 minutes in outlook. But could there be another cause for this problem though?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a hard drive where one partition is used as part of a logical volume (LV) using LVM. The partition table is corrupted and prevents the partitions from showing as devices in /dev/. The corruption prevents the logical volume from coming on-line b/c LVM cannot find the part on the corrupted disk. I (am pretty sure) I know the block offsets and lengths for each partition on the disk but do not want to write to the disk in case I am wrong.
How do I go about recovering the logical volume in this scenario?

I have set samba domain. I am able to add win 7 and xp clients. All r working fine. But I have a doubt. If I shutdown the samba pdc server, I should be able to login the client machine with the same profile (which I had, when the samba pdc server was up). Now , if I shutdown the sambapdc, I am able to login the client machine, but new profile is being created. How to avoid this.
How to say to samba that the client machine should load the same profile which was created when the server was up and running. I do not want the client machines to create new a profile when the server is down bcoz in windows domain, when the windows domain is shutdown, the client machines are able to login with the same profile (the profile which was created when the domain was up). I wish to have same thing in samba pdc also.

Every thing works fine When I log in it creates a folder on the server for the user. when the user logs out, it is copying the user data to the server, for example folders like Documents,Favorites and so on.
My problem is,Im using a Dutch version of Windows 7 but the folders sync are English
The app in linux server(CentOS 5.3) uses files from a mount directory(Shared windows directory in read only mode). At the same time, the same file might be edited by user in windows env. We were assuming that as the windows folders are mounted in read-only mode in linux so any change done by user in windows environment would be fail safe i.e. can be safely committed to the file. But when the file concurrently used both by Linux and as well by windows, at some point linux does not release the file handles and the files get corrupted(deleted too). Earlier we were using win2k server and this step was hardly reproducible and win2k was releasing file handles quickly. But with centos, we really had touch time managing files.

I apologise for the bad grammar and flow of this message, i'm blaming it on this tiny netbook.Summary: Linux crashed, corrupting only the NTFS partition, the mft isn't recoverable with CHKDSK and tesgetdataback on windows sees the partition with all of it's files.Question: If getdataback can see all the files it must be able to see the mft. Is there a way to rebuild the mft?Long winded version:So I was running 9.10 64bit and was accessing a NTFS partition made by Vista.I was extracting a 7z. archive when the computer became unresponsive. Ctrl Alt Backspace didn't work, alt ctrl f1 worked but i couldn't login so couldn't halt the system. I waited 5 min and turned off the computer. 4 seconds on the power button.
When the computer restarted all the partitions were fine except the NTFS partition. 9.10 couldn't mount the partition, saying CHKDSK needed to be run. Booting into Vista, I get a black screen with a cursor flashing on the top left. Booting into recovery I ran CHKDSK /f /r c: which came back with something like "mft corrupt, couldn't recover aborted".I then got back into 9.10 and tried testdisk. When attempting to do anything with the partition, it crashed with MFTSegmentation fault. Getting desperate, I tried to dd the partition onto a nas but at 30 gb the computer got really slow so I aborted that. {I don't have a hdd large enough on the computer}.
I then unplugged the hdd and plugged it into another computer, using sata. Linux doesn't have any advanced recovery tools for ntfs so i used getdataback on vista. This sees all of the files but I can't find a way to recover the MFT.I haven't lost any files but wouldn't mind restoring the mft. Is there a way of doing thisRant:WTF. Ubuntu 9.10 comes with ntfs3g as default? It should be safe to use. Windows has crashed many times but hasn't taken down the mft.Reading more about this, an MFT getting corrupted should never really happen other than if the disk is physically defected.

Host and vm we're both ubuntu 9.10 64bit. I upgraded both to 10.04. So far so good. Also did reboots to load the new kernel image.
For data storage I have a large (6,35TB) XFS partition. This partition is exported to the vm as a block device (vdb). This morning I noticed the vm has crashed. The XFS partition (mounted as /home) was shut down. Is this just bad luck? Or is it 10.04?

I tried booting with an older (2.6.31) kernel, but didn't help. Can I safely run xfs_repair without causing any more damage?
All disks in this system are attached to an Areca hardware raid controller configured in Raid5 and has been operating for months now without any problem.
I was resizing my ext4 partition and I cancelled it while it was at the reading stage think it was only reading it and nothing else, but now it is corrupt.

However, recently my computer was taking an unusually long time to boot up, so I restarted, which normally works just fine, but just as I restarted the system had begun to boot. I haven't tried an Ubuntu LiveCD, because I lost mine (making a new one is difficult with our current internet connection) and I feel I would get the same results. At the very least, I would like to be able to get all my music, videos, etc. off the drive, but I would prefer being able to fix it completely so as not to have to buy a new one.
after I installed KDE on my Ubuntu installationv I suspect Unity UI got corrupted...I can run KDE fine but there's no 'desktop' when I log into Unity...Similarly no panels or 'desktop' in 'Classic Ubuntu' session also though I can run applications using 'Gnome Do'... When I copy it to my home folder for use in Banshee 2.0, some of the music files become corrupted.When these copied mp3s are played, they have annoying, intermittent distortion throughout some of the songs. In an effort to try and isolate the problem, played one of the distorted songs directly from the file on the external HD, and it played flawlessly. I then downloaded Clementine and had the exact same distortion on the playback from the copied file, and then no distortion from the external HD file.
So at this point, it seems like the mp3 are getting messed up when they are being copied from the external HD to the computer.I am using a USB 2.0 port for the file copying.

in ubuntu: i have made thunderbird share the thunderbird profile on this partition (hd1), but recently, trying to set up the profilemanager to access this has caused me problems and while starting thunderbird, i see all my emails for a brief second (in the inbox), and then they disappear.i am using the latest thunderbird from the unmaintained repositories (3.0.5), but i don't have a problem reverting back to an older version...i use it for gmail, so the folder i point profilemanager to is:/media/sdb1/Mozilla Profiles/Thunderbird/Mail/pop. gmail.com/Mail/pop.gmail.com

Where does Ubuntu store the profiles information for Terminal sessions (e.g., colors, title bar menu on/off, etc.)? I managed to turn off the menu then set that as a default and can't access the profiles menu any more.
