Ubuntu Multimedia :: Unable To Get Sound In Ultimate Edition 2.8
Jun 15, 2011
Am using Ubuntu Ultimate Edition 2.8 which is build on Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick. Am using it in my laptop Toshiba Satellite c660 -p 5012 Am having no sound at all the sound hardware tab shows no sound cards But in the system hardware tab it says Intel 5 series/3400 series HD audio
Wanted to get some info regarding Ultimate Edition 2.7 and see that the webpage is not active (http://ultimateedition.info) at the moment. Hostgator just says that the website is experiencing difficulties. I checked the website a couple of times today (8/21/10) and see that it's down. Here's the URL I was using: [URL] Anyway, if the project is dead, I'm open to any suggestions regarding distros with a lot of eye candy.
i want to download ubuntu ultimate edition theme pack, but found out that ubuntu ultimate's website is now down from quite some time, have they stopped their project?
I have installed Ubuntu 10.04. I have ultimate edition that has almost all packages. Now, i would like to install selected packages from ultimate edition. I need a to know how to install the selected packages by resolving the dependencies locally.
I use a dual core ASUS desktop with Nvidia built in, the video card. I have 500 Gigabytes memory and the video card has 512 Megabytes. 3 Gigabytes of RAM.
I installed a Ultimate Edition Gamers released back in June 2010. I opted for the use of Compiz, and opted for Nvidia drivers from Nvidia, not the ones devised in Linux. Once I did this I got compiiz going, but with less choice of screen resolution, so it is all slightly too big. Blocky, How can I get the finer screen resolution back?
At the time of the install I had to change the resolution, that was good. Also when I installed the Nvidia drivers and compiz, the cursor changed from a spear head to an arrow.
I would like to clone an existing desk top installation of Ubuntu Ultimate Edition and run it on my MacBook, can it work? What do I have to do to get it running there?
I created new desktop account for my wife but it is not loading and I get an error message on log in that ICE.authority failed to load and than nautilus give an error message that nautilus unable to create folders in home directory. And then I get a blank desktop without any panels.
i installed this OS [ Red hat Enterprise edition 5.1 ]on my desktop and found there is no sound playing. step 1: while installation i found sound Test got failed and given errors as follows["You can create /root/scsconfig.log, /root/scsrun.log on the System tab and file a new bug at step2 : Then i went to /root/scsrun.log and found below error information
[ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:1357_snd_pcm_hw_open) Invalid value for card aplay: main:550: audio open error: No such device amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such device
I have a 3 monitor setup with a 9800GT and a 6800GT. The 9800GT is linked to my main monitor (20" viewsonic 1680x1050) and a 40" Toshiba 1080p LCD TV. The 6800GT powers a secondary 1280x1024 dell LCD. I have the SPDIF connector plugged into the 9800GT and in sound preferences Hardware tab I have Digital Stereo (IEC95 output selected, but I get no sound on the TV. PS All three are on separate x-screens.
Ive recently switched to Ubuntu from Windows XP and me and a friend had finally got things going for me, with everything running pretty darn well. A couple days ago we decided to install VirtualBox with Windows 7 and for a day everything worked well enough but yesterday I discovered that I had no sound whatsoever on Ubuntu but oddly Win 7 on VB had audio running without any discrepancies.
When ever I install windows I have to manually install this [URL]Well. I downloaded wine and tried it and it said Unknown error. So, how would I go about getting my sound driver then? I really need sound I do not have anything under Hardware, Output or Input in the Sound preferences. I've already tried OSS, I think I installed ALSA but I do not know how to work it. I've downloaded a tar.bz2 pack for alsa, where is a deb. I hate configuring stuff, I want something I can click and install.
Code:
Audio Sound Card SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC Playback Devices Digital Output Device (S/PDIF) (SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC)
Prior to the release of the update 11.04 I had sound working perfectly. When the update came out, I lost all sound. I have run through all the forums and threads and websites I can find trying to find a fix, no luck. I have no start up sound, no sound from any program. I installed PulseAudio and it shows that there should be sound, but neither speakers nor headphones have sound coming from them.
I am using mpd and ncmpcpp as a music player. Until today it worked perfectly fine but now when I play a song it begins playing but with no sound (yet sound works in every other program). I am using a creative x-fi xtreme gamer sound card.
Here are my configs:
~/.mpdconf:
Code:
# An example configuration file for MPD # See the mpd.conf man page for a more detailed description of each parameter. # Files and directories #######################################################
I get no sound. Not even the little signature tune you're suppose to get when you start up ubuntu. When I go
Code:
aplay -l
I get:
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: I82801DBICH4 [Intel 82801DB-ICH4], device 0: Intel ICH [Intel 82801DB-ICH4] Subdevices: 1/1
[code]....
Then I tried the alsamixer just too make sure that the speakers was not muted.
Code:
alsamixer
The last thing I tried was adding my user name to the /etc/group. Before it was
Code:
audio:x:29:pulse
but now it says
Code:
audio:x:29:myusername
is where some bullet proof way to test the sound card? Now I'm running some random mp3 which might have some fault in itself. what must I do to get the sound to work?
MB: Gigabyte 790XTA-UD4 boards, with internal sound 4Gig Mem, Phenom II CPU, 1 TB HD HD in: 2 pc5500 TV cards HD Out: GeForce GT240 out,
I'm getting very frustrated, having dropped a substantial (for me) amount of money trying to get a DVR setup, and Myth TV has punished me every step of the way.At this point, the extreme frustration is that sound *was* working earlier - not going to the TV via HDMI (Which seems like it should be easy but I've yet to get it to work) but I had speakers working - right up to the instant I installed restricted extra's to run mp3's - the instant I got totem to play sound, I completely lost all sound from myth TV, even playing back digital files it has recorded have no sound now.
alsamixer seems to have been used numerous times to fix these issues, but doesn't actually show as a valid package when I check the repository - I installed the gnome version instead, but nothing I do there seems to have any effect.I'm not entirely sure if I need/should be using the patch from the pc5500 cards into the sound card line in - as near as I can tell, that's only for analog signals, and it *was* running happily without it.
As mentioned - sound is fine from everything else, but even playing a recorded file I have no sound playback (Note: I had not recorded anything I can verify *had* sound before). I've gone through various guides, and I got nuthin'. All the actual cards and hardware have every appearance of working.
After installing and uninstalling a couple backports modules in synaptic and reinstalling almost every alsa package, I have no sound in ubuntu after the boot chime. In my sound preferences, No hardware is listed and only "dummy output" is available under the outputs option.
I can't get any sound to come out of my laptop through Kubuntu. Please help me by giving me step by step instructions, because I'm a total noob at such things. I've went through the Comprehensive guide as well -to no avail. to sum it up:
I have an external USB Sound Card (Audiophile Fubar II DAC) that worked flawlessy up to one or two months ago when suddenly it stopped to make any sound. The card, speakers, etc. are working, I tried it from another OS running on the very same PC. The card is detected, but it's dumb
$ aplay -l **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: STAC92xx Analog [STAC92xx Analog]
[code]....
The card appears under System->Preferences->Sound->Hardware but there are two unusual things (if I remember correctly). 1. The green sound card icon on the left is not shown, it's not gray, there is nothing (but the USB Headset, that works well, doesn't have the icon either so maybe it'ok).
2. From the Profiles dropdown I can only choose from four options (off, analog mono, analog stereo and digital duplex). Before there were more (digital output only, etc.).I checked the levels several times. Another external USB card (SB Xi-Fi 5.1) works well.
I tried to OSS workaround to get sound running but instead my sound card disappeared totally from the system. I restored ALSA (I think) but my sound card is still missing in action. If I could get some help on how to restore that I think I could figure the rest out. I tried the sound problem sticky but I ran into the part where the poster has no solution as well. Any assistance is greatly appreciated and I'm slowly learning how the terminal works.....pretty much what windows does for you but it's more flexible at the same time. I learned on DOS so it's not totally alien....just different commands.
I also found Realtek drivers for the HL 272 which is my sound card for linux but I can't make heads or tails of the instructions to install.....
I have no sound after the Suspend function. I am running OSS4.I usually run "sudo soundoff && sudo soundon" after closing any applications using the sound... however, this is just a temporary solution. I suspend quite a lot, and so doing this over and over can get irritating.
Have installed mythtv to kbuntu (32 bit) and configured the backend with HDHomerun and receive video but no sound The ] key brings op the volume bar but sits at 0 and will not adjust. However caffeine and he HDhomerun conf GUI viewer play the video and sound perfectly.
setting up the backend I never saw an entry for alsa or mixer, it appears somethimg is missing there for HDHomerun, although those are present when I added an entry for a Hauppauge 950Q USB tuner. Can not get this source to work as yet so have not seen the sound problem there.
The speaker test speaker-test -c 2
also works as do the login/logout sounds and the test in system settings/multimedia.
alsa -l reports **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC889A Analog [ALC889A Analog]
my sound did work and i ripped on CD in Banshee and now it does not have any sound. tried looking for a related forum question and on page 2 there is a post "11.3 Gnome, totem, banshee no sound" that followed with no success. how do i get my sound on? tried all the normal checks to make sure it was not on mute.
Just recently installed server 9.10 to use for various purposes (network auth, file server, etc) and one of the things on the tail end of the Todo list was to set up a network sound server. To my surprise however it seems I have no sound capability. So I ran though the usual troubleshooting, here's the output:
There is a driver associated and it is loaded in the kernel. Alsa even lists it when it reloads, So... I'm new to alsa since sound generally just works on desktop versions, however I am well adjusted with the terminal so feel free to ask for whatever output you need.
