View 1 RepliesI am having trouble installing Ubuntu 10.10 netbook remix edition onto a Acer Aspire one netbook. I am attempting to install the OS from a 16GB PNY usb drive w/ the usb-universal installer and ubuntu 10.10 netbook remix .ISO
The reoccurring problem that I am encountering is that when I boot from the USB-drive and begin to install everything seems to be working, and then it is stuck at the menu where it asks who are you?; and of course i have filled in everything asked and at the bottom where you can look at what its doing in the terminal/detail section all it says is ready when you are, and the forward tap is unselectable.
I'm using ubuntu netbook remix. I want to use desktop edition now. How to uninstall unity safely and install compiz? Need little guidance. Or is there any way I can use compiz in unity itself?

Ubuntu 10.04. I want to change the startup sound and the mail alert sound (incoming mail) for Evolution Mail Client. I go to System > Preferences > Sound, and all I get are themes preset. I do not have option to browse to wav files. I also do not see a browse option in Email Settings. Do I have to change an actual file?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently got a Canon Powershot SD780 IS. It takes HD video at 780p. It's great, except that the videos won't display properly in Ubuntu Netbook Remix (Lucid) on my Dell Mini 10v.I've tried using Gstreamer (Banshee), Xine (Totem-xine), and MPlayer (GNOME MPlayer). These all should have worked, which makes me think something may be wrong either with the files themselves or my computer. Anyone have any idea what's going on here?FYI, when I pull up the Properties dialogue for one of the videos and look in the Audio/Video tab, it says:
Video
Dimensions: 1280 x 720
Codec: H.264 / AVC

Why i cant change from 800x480 to 1024x600, that this model of EEE pc doesnt support anything higher than 800x480 at the 10:1 ratio...
Firstly my question is, is it ACTUALLY possible to 'overclock' this type of netbook to run a higher res?
Im running ubtuntu netbook remix 10.04 and am new to linux (again, so sorry) so be nice, and ive tried getting my head around this 'sudo' stuff, and the xorg.conf file (which is nowhere to be found) and ive even tried a program calld astray but im pretty sure ive exhausted my patience as trying to self-teach . . .
And ive also tried to much around with xrandr or whatever that command was.. but i cant really get my head around it, and it kept telling me the resolution didnt exist ect...
For the past 2hrs I have been struggling to make KDE launch plasma-dekstop instead of plasma-netbook, but all in vain.I removed, then purged plasma-netbook and plasma-netbook-default-settings packages but after logging out and re-logging in the Netbook UI was back! After restarting the system now I can't even seem to get the KDM. I am greeted with a black screen.--- I restarted the system again and the nasty little bugger is back again! This is so frustrating. How do I get plasma-desktop to load instead?---- Great now I can see that plasma-desktop and plasma-netbook both are running simultaneously! netbook on top of desktop. So my final Q is how do I stop plasma-netbook from loading?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm just coming back to Ubuntu after last seeing a GNOME desktop almost a year ago now. Just installed the new 10.04 version on my EEE 1000h with little to no problems. 1) How do I change the netbook remix desktop mode? I like the left menu design, however I like the traditional desktop even more. Unfortunately I can't seem to find the desktop mode switcher anywhere.
2) Where is the grub menu.lst found? Looked in the /boot/grub/ folder and it doesn't seem to be there anymore.
3) Where's my multi touch? Do I have to install a package or configure a setting somewhere? With Jaunty it was a simple install and play. This time it doesn't seem that way at all.
I have this mac mini laying around. It runs leopard fairly okay. I was wondering if it would be able to run Ubuntu netbook remix. I figure it would run fine, I'm not exactly sure though. I just want to get it running so my brother has a computer to use.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI know this is a long shot, BUT Is there any way to implement the Netbook Remix 10.04 GUI into Windows 7? As in basically making Windows 7 look and act like the GUI in Remix. I love the GUI, and if it's impossible, I'll just suck it up and dual boot, the 30 gb Win7/XP partition is bugging the crap out of me. Just wondering if there was something out there that made this thing possible.
And for the record, I'd switch back to full linux when my card is supported in october =P
I can't delete anything on my Ubuntu Netbook remix. Every time I click something, it just opens automatically. There's no way to highlight it to then hit the delete key. Right clicking does nothing.
