View 1 RepliesI picked up a Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1800 PCIe TV tuner a few days ago. Digital TV worked fine right out of the box (after setting up the firmware), but I have not been able to get analog video to work at all.If I run mplayer, xawtv or tvtime using /dev/video1 (yes, that is the correct devnode, video0 is a different card in my rig), So, has anyone RECENTLY gotten analog capture working on this card?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got a Hauppague HVR-2250 in the hopes of being able to watch and record tv on my computer. I followed this guide to install the drivers: [URL] It seems to have installed alright I cannot tell if it worked. I am not using MythTV, nor am I interested in MythTV. I just want a simple application to watch ATSC channels. Me-TV seems like an application that fits the bill. It says there are no digital tuners detected though. I don't know if the drivers did not install or if the card isn't supported by the application.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to get this sorted for days. I'm trying to use this older Toshiba Satellite 1800 as a kind of Internet Radio kiosk. Sound was working in Xubuntu but everything was too slow so I switched to fresh minimal install from the mini cd and used the guide from psychocats to install IceWM. No I have _no_ sound. (It works perfectly off of Knoppix 6.0.1 live cd.)

I'm just not getting anywhere here after 12 - 15 hours of googling last 3 days.I'm linked out, and linked back, almost into a do-loop, just like a boomerang, and still no vids...

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've followed instructions here upto the point for the Startup Script for Analog Tuner the script provided does not run (v4l2-ctl seems to be depriciated?) In any case the scan for digital channels is not finding anything, I wasn't able to scan for analog channels. When I do something like cat dev/video0 | mplayer All I see is static. I've followed the instructions and I didn't get any obvious error messages. I'm completely lost. I know the tuner works, I've tested in in Windows 7. I've tried connecting the coaxial cable directly to the tuner's TV outlet, to the ATSC outlet, I've tried connecting the set-top box out coax to the TV, and ATSC outlets to no avail.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got a strange problem with my Hauppauge card; I've just undertaken a clean install of Mythbuntu 10.04, and the built in Hauppauge remote for my Nova S2 HD card is intercepting remote signals from the number and direction keys and sending them as keypresses to the terminal - even when lirc isn't running.I didn't have this issue under 9.04 - but it seems that whatever is intercepting the IR signal is preventing LIRC from getting a look-in as it makes no difference whether lirc is running or not.I found this thread: URL... but the link to the explanation is dead and my attempts to blacklist lirc_i2c and gpio_keys have made no difference.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought this tv card because it was listed as working 'out-of-the-box'. Well, it didn't for me. I've googled and forummed for 3 days, tried all the fixes and nothing works.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is a writeup to help you enable your Hauppauge 1250 tv tuner card so you can use it with programs such as Mythtv. This will enable multiple cards. I am assuming your card isn't working "out of the box". You can check if it is recognized in the OS by following the instructions in "How to tell if the TV card is recognized" below.
In linux land, the 1250 is not just a 1250 but can be a variety of designations. I own older 1250's which are listed as 1270's. My newer cards are listed as 1255's. These cards usually don't work "out of the box" with linux. You have learn the ropes and enable them yourself. You have to have time on your hands and be a glutton for punishment when it comes to setting up linux but a stable, well running system is worth it. If you need everything done for you and want it "out of the box", you might as well ride back to Bill Gates' Boneless Chicken Ranch.
First off, here is an updated cardlist for the cx23885 driver that is used with the 1250 amongst other tuner cards:

I've looked everywhere for this and I can't find an answer. I've got a hauppauge wintv-1250 card; ubuntu and mythtv recognize it OOTB. The dvb digital tuner portion of this card works great. I had quite a time figuring out how to set it up, but it all works pretty good now. nyway, the only problem is that I need to record 2 sources: 1 is RF, the other is from an analog cable box. So, I figured I should be able to record analog video from the s-video input. Is this possible with mythtv, and if so, how? I could watch it in windows with the software that came with the card, so I know it's possible, but I'd rather avoid windows if I can.

I recently upgraded my old Hauppauge TV Card (BT878) with a HVR-1300. Whilst the older card worked OK, I am struggling to get the new card to work, despite it seemingly having installed OK in YaST.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to get my Hauppauge USB Live 2 video grabber to work under Ubuntu 10.04. I have installed the drivers, and using TVTime I get a perfect picture - but no sound, and also I can't record with it. I have found a guide on how to get it with sound using MythTV, but it seems I fail at setting it up. It tells me it couldn't find the backend server, but it's running in my terminal.

I have an unused Hauppauge WinTV-PVR350 which I understand should do the job but can I do it using Linux? I have openSUSE 11.4 (64bit) installed using KDE desktop.

View 6 Replies View RelatedRather than adding each music/video file one by one in XBMC is there a way to just add a folder to watch and as you add music under it, it automatically shows up in XMBC? If not, is there any application that allows something like that? I'm looking for one central application to use for all media playback - dvds, music, videos, pictures... XBMC seemed like the right choice, but I'll be adding moves and music for a year if I had to do each of them 1 by 1.

View 3 Replies View RelatedDVD rentals are a lottery for me. I often have the problem of renting DVD's that end up being scratched. I'm sure this is a common experience: during playback there will be a section of the DVD that is unplayable because it skips or stutters.
I always clean the DVD surface but it often doesn't help when the scratches are bad. So I wonder whether there are any hardware tweaks in Ubuntu to help the DVD drive try harder?
I found this post "Guide to dvd copy and watch even when scratched" which seems useful but it requires ripping the DVD.
Movies will not play whether I use VLC, or Movie Player.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to capture the video from my sat box using an extra laptop I have and then distribute a live feed on my network so that I can watch tv on my laptop around the house. I want to use an old Dell X300 with a broken screen. It's not too powerful with a 1.2GHz Pentium M and 640MB ram. I was thinking of throwing Zubuntu or something lighter weight on it. I'll use a usb capture card that will support S-video. I am sure there are plenty of those that will be compatible with Linux. What I need to know is what capture software should I use?
Is there any capture software that will transmit over a network as a live feed? Is my laptop even powerful enough to do what I'm asking? This thing had no problem playing back 480p but capturing, encoding, and distributing over a network is another story. Are there any usb capture cards that use hardware encoding? Would installing a lighter weight distro be necessary in order to gt laptop performance boost it needs to handle what I want to do? And what of software to receive the stream? VLC should have no trouble connecting to the stream right? How about SMPlayer?
In your opinion what is the best application to watch movies. The application also Needs to be quite lightweight. So what is the best application?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a netbook which does not have a DVD drive. I have attempted to rip a copy of some DVDs I own to facilitate watching them on the netbook. I have run into some errors.
First the setup:
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Linux ub-desktop 2.6.32-25-generic #45-Ubuntu SMP Sat Oct 16 19:52:42 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux
DVD Drive - HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GSA-4166B
I have tried multiple DVDs (Heat, Team America, The Messenger, Holy Grail). All fail in the same way.
I can watch any of these DVDs from start to finish in VLC or mPlayer. No issues there.
For ripping I tried AcidRip, DVD::RIP, and even fired up a virtual box of Windows to try different applications.
The error log shows:
Code:
In Acid rip I will get about 130MB (40 minutes) of the video until these errors come up. There are usually three or four duplicates of that and then the application closes.
If I try to copy the files to my hard drive from the mounted DVD it will stall about 30% of the way through and lock the system up.
I know the errors indicate CRC, but I would assume if the drive was bad I couldn't watch the videos.
