I tried to plug it intoour pc and upload some songs to it in Ubuntu, but Ubuntu does not recognizeit.I imagine, as usual, this is adriver issue. Are there any genericdrivers that work across the board?

For some reason my Sandisk Cruzer Blade 8GB is not being recognised in Mint 11.It did work for a short period but no longer does so.Is there some command line I can use to search for it ?it simple as I am in the Newby category as far as Linux is concerned.

I do not manage to get my my ipod touch 4g recognized by ubuntu 10.04. First time I tried, it was recognized as a camera and not as a media player. I tried to install a few other packages. Now it is not recognized at all....
I followed guidelines on the forum and installed libimobiledevice, ifuse, usbmuxd and libplist. Note I unlock my ipod before connecting it.

I see a lot of post related to new ipod touch 4g installation but I think I screwed up somewhere in my configuration since the ipod is not recognized at all.
I've made some progress (at first, the ipod wasn't seen by the system at all). I've removed what appeared to be conflicting usb mounting packages and that has allowed the ipod to be recognized by the computer (i.e. the name of the ipod show up on the desktop with an ipod icon and i can manipulate files with nautilus. however, before i upgraded to lucid, rhythmbox would start automatically and I was able to manage the music through rhythmbox. now, since the upgrade, rhythmbox does not detect the presence of the ipod.

Rhythm Box does not recognise the Ipod with the plug-in, I have tried Amarok, but each time I tried to open it, it just crashed, tried sending a bug report but that did not want to work. I have also tried Exaile with the Ipod plug-in but when you go to the device manager you can click on the Ipod but nothing happens. I have tried looking at the Exaile forums but this seems to be a problem for others as well. The Ipod mounts ok, now a bit stuck.

At this point my ipod shows on my desktop when i connect it via usb. I cannot set up the repository for it in gtkpod because i dont know the location its mounting to. if its mounting at all. so my question is. how can i tell where my ipod is being mounted? I dont have a clue what to look for in the terminal results for "df -a"

Nothing pops up, it doesn't automount, it's not seens by KDE or by GtkPod... Nothing at all. It tried installing a bunch of iPod-related stuff from the repository, rebooted, nothing more happens.

This is great but I would like to change the mount point to just "/media/ipod/" as it easier to use with gnupod (command driven ipod access oh yes!!) I've had a look around and I know how to mount devices but I'm at a lose as to how things in fedora are automatically mounted... I use gnome so from what I've read hal, dbus, and udev yeah? but I'm not sure what configuration files need to be changed. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Sandisk mp3 player. I got it because A - I like Sandisk and B - I know they have better out of box support for Linux than most other manufacturers. It is an 8gb mp3 player with an 8gb micro SD card, so each pieces of media mount independently under - SANDISK - 8gb Media.
Sandisk sits in my desk for a few months, unused, since then I upgrade systems to 9.10, blah blah... not it won't mount. Sure, it'll charge it and all. But the actual device won't mount. I did not check fdisk -l, however, I did check gparted and I never saw the thing get recognized.
If you have problem using Ubuntu 11.04 from USB, remove the U3 launchpad if you do not need it at all. the U3 system mounts on dev/sr1 while the rest oi the 8 GB USB drive is usually /dev/sdb or sometimes /dev/sdc.
fdisk will not write to this /dev/sr1 partition

I have an IBM T43; only one HD allowed. It is loaded with Xp on the one HD, and others have and do use it regularly.I have loaded Lenny on Kingston USB flash on this machine without problem (sdb1 root and bootable.) I refuse to allow GRUB to be installed on the HD, tell it to load on /dev/sdb1, it completes and reboots. I then edit GRUB (HD0, 1) to (HD0, 0.) It then boots in fine. Later I edit the Boot entry.
When I attempt to do this with a Toshiba 8Gb Transmemory USB or a SanDisk 8Gb unit it simply restarts and displays a �"Error Loading Operating System" messageI�ve noted on the SanDisk the U3 business and have removed it via the provided tool; it still does not load.In G Parted I�ve noted on the Toshiba a hiddenfile at the beginning of the formatted partition. but can do nothing to remove it.It takes up quite a bit of territory. I have a IEI IBX 530 unit that uses a flash disk for storage. I used a Transcend 32GB flash disk and installed CentOS 5 successfully on the unit. I now wanted to install a second unit, but am using a SanDisk Extreme IV flash disk. The installation completes successfully, but when the system reboots for the first time after the install is complete, I get an error: "Grub Loading Stage 2. Read Error". This error occurs using CentOS 5.3 and even occurred when trying Fedora 9 and 11.

The problem though is that it says its syncing, the songs are transferring, and all that good stuff but when I go to look at my music theres nothing in there.

I've heard of and used mencoder to change video codecs before, but I'd have no idea how to write my own script for it. What I was thinking of doing is using Avidemux to convert it? Honestly i'm not too firmiliar with codecs and containers but its telling me that rather than Xvid(which i think it was previously) the video codec is MP4 and the audio is MP3, and the container is AVI. First of all is this correct? Did i get the codec/container right?
Secondly will this work on my iTouch? I guess dealing with AVIs as a container is ok as long as the video codec is MP4? rather than like OGG or something? Ugh i'm so confused, i've just been rambling..
Ok. First of all do i have codecs/containers down? Am i correct with my assumptions? Second, I am correct that the CODEC is the problem, it must be MP4 to play back on the iPod? the container being AVI has nothing to do with it? (i'm basing this off of the fact that i know the only "codec" iPods can playback is MP4)
Edit: are there any other possible ways to convert an AVI to an MP4?
I know there are a few threads on this already, but I don't think they apply to this type model specifically. This link says that the libgpod is not yet current with the hardware.
It also says that it works with iPod Touch 4G's with a lower OS (ex. 4.0.1). Mine came with 4.1, but even after jailbreaking, I cannot get it to sync music.
If I were to downgrade the OS (is this even advisable for this model), would I then be able to sync music in Ubuntu?
I received my very first iPod (iPod Shuffle) as a gift. When I connect the iPod to my Ubuntu 10.10 (64-bit) system, Rhythmbox starts and detects that the iPod hasn't been initialized yet. I haven't connected the iPod to any system running iTunes yet.
I installed Hipo, but it won't run because it can't find "org.freedesktop.Hal". Would it be safe to let Rhythmbox initialize the iPod or should I connect it to iTunes first? The plan is to use iTunes on Windows or Rhythmbox or Hipo or something on Linux to manage music on the iPod.
I know that iDevices do not support OGG, but on Ubuntu 10.10 when I synced my iPod Touch with Banshee, it would convert my music (all .ogg) and then sync it to the iPod without changing the original files. Now I'm on Kubuntu 11.04 (still using Banshee, I prefer it over Amarok) but when I try to sync now I just get errors saying .ogg is not supported. How can I fix this? I'd rather not convert all my music into .mp3 because (a) It goes against my free software values and (b) it would take forever.

I added about 6GB of music into it (via Rhythmbox).When I eject and disconnect the ipod, it tells me that 6GB are occupied, but the music directory says that it's empty. Does the ipod need to be "initialized" in itunes? I have another ipod that was first used in itunes and it never gave me any issues with Rhythmbox.I have two machines running Ubuntu 9.10. I can't get itunes working with wine, and I don't have a mac or a windows machine.
