View 3 RepliesWindows failed on me, so I've swapped to Ubuntu 10.04, and I'm having issues with the media players.
Rhythmbox was reading old ID3 tags, meaning all my music collection appeared messed up since I had apparently only been editing the newer tags in iTunes when I was on Windows. I tried using EasyTAG but then as soon as I loaded the music in Rhythmbox, it would just revert back to the old useless tags again.
I read around, and Banshee came highly recommended (so did Amarok, but that runs awful for me. :/) and I really like the layout and general appearance of Banshee, and it doesn't seem to screw with the file names or anything like Rhythmbox was doing, but my iPod does not appear at all.
It's a fairly new 160GB Classic iPod. Rhythmbox detects and edits files in it fine. Hipo iPod Management Tool does not detect it either.
I have an ipod touch 2g with ios 4.2.1. I have used other ipods without a problem syncing with banshee, hipo, rhythmbox and songbird.I can even mount it to view or edit the files. Unfortunetly i am using a netbook so i can use a virtual machine

View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently had to reinstall Ubuntu 11.04 after a bit of careless messing about, and am now unable to mount my Ipod (touch, 3rd generation, maybe?). Previously, only a week ago, I had no troubles mounting it and uploaded all of my music to Banshee with no problems. However, with this most recent reinstallation, I am unable to to do anything with my Ipod. If I plug it in, about 2 seconds later it comes up with an error that I cannot currently remember, but it was along the lines of "cannot mount: timed out."

View 6 Replies View RelatedrEFIt can not see my USB thumb drive during boot, therefore can't install. Tried using the dd utility to copy the Ubuntu ISO to a spare partition on my internal hard drive. Now, rEFIt sees that drive but attempting to boot into it gives me a 'Missing Operating System' message. So I'm back at trying to get the system to boot from the pendrive.

I've also noticed that my headphone's led jask is always on! Looking around I've found It could be an hardware problem only if built-in audio isn't working but I've got no problem with it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Good Way Technologies BU2220 CardBus USB 2.0 card which works fine on this same Mac under OS 9.1. It also works fine on a more modern mac with OS X. But I cannot understand why it's not working in Ubuntu 9.10. I had it recognized (I think??) when I had Kubuntu 5.10 (Breezy Badger) installed on this system. I have an old dog - a PowerBook 3400c 240 Mhz 80MB Ram, with a 40 GB HDD. I have Mac OS 9.1 installed on a 5GB partition, and the rest is Ubuntu 9.10, using the LXDE GUI. I switch between Mac OS and Linux using Boot X.
When I slide in my USB card (making sure I have the external power supply attached to it), the system shows a bit of activity, and my display brightness reverts to default. Then there's no more activity. Of course, USB flash drives and USB mice won't work when plugged in. I navigated to /var/log, and looked in the Messages log. There were the following entries:

Neither Ubuntu's Unity or KDE respond to the function keys on a regular Apple USB keyboard. I can plug in a non-Apple keyboard and they work just fine. What needs to be changed or configure so that F1 and company on the Apple keyboard work as on other keyboards?
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis morning I bought an Apple wireless keyboard and I got it connected through Blueman. It works like a charm, but I have on problem;
When I log out I can log back in by typing in my password. However, when I restart the computer it seems that bluetooth is not loaded yet and I cannot enter my password. So I have to log in using my wired keyboard, and then disconnect & re-connect to my wireless keyboard using blueman before I am able to use the wireless keyboard.
Is there any way that I can already auto-load bluetooth and connect to my keyboard before I log in?
I'm trying to use an Apple wireless keyboard with Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) but the fn key is not working at all. If I start up xev and hit the fn key it generates no event. What do I need to do for it to work. It seems as if it should work when viewing pages like

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have recently bough a 2GB iPod Shuffle 3rd Generation. I have loaded music into it via rhythmbox, and I can listen to it in the computer. The problem is that, when I unplug the iPod it tells me to "Please use iTunes to sync music". The music IS IN the iPod, I don't know what's happening.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had a thread about installing on a Mac and decided to go the VirtualBox route and everything is running splendidly EXCEPT for the fnmode setting in /sys/module/hid_apple.
The problem is that the directory hid_apple does not exist for me to modify the settings for the apple keyboard. I'm assuming that when installing in VB, Ubu assumed it was a PC. Anyone know of a way to get the keyboard config directories in there so I don't have to hit Fn to do Alt-F2? Also, I tried to create the directory (sudo mkdir) and it returned "Cannot create directory...no such file or directory", but not in so many words.
I've had a Apple Powerbook G4 for a while now, but being mostly a Windows user I've never used it. I remember when it ran it's native OSX (Which I can't for the life remember) Probably Tiger? Anyways... I tried installing Ubuntu on it about a year and a half ago, the installation was botched and I left it sitting there with no purpose in life. :O
So I've decided to dust the laptop and give it another go. I've progressed a little further with my Linux experience, having installed and tested a few distros and even switching over to Ubuntu 9.10 for about 4 months. Enough of my life story and more to the point.Has anyone installed Ubuntu, or any distro for that matter on the Apple Powerbook G4? I know there are different versions of the G4 and I'm not entirely sure what my version is, It's the 1.6Ghz version with The Nvidia card (Err I think) and extra Wireless card installed. I am not very capable with Mac - After checking Apples website I believe it's the 15inch.
I've read the FAQ thread and will begin trying to install Ubuntu tonight at home, I just wanted some suggestion and some pointers in the right direction. What distro would be most suitable for my hardware? and What is easiest to set up?
connecting my ipod touch (Version 1.1.5). When I plug the ipod in, ubuntu doesnt recognize it at all, not even as a camera. It will however charge it up. Ive tried Hipo and Amarok but neither of them do anything as well. I am running Ubuntu 9.10.

after upgrading to Karmic I started having problems with ipod and banshee.I have found out this a known problem. You can check it at the banshee siteQuote:There is a known issue with iPod not being recognized by Banshee on openSUSE 11.2 and Ubuntu Karmic.mainly because of switching from HAL to device kits, as done with Ubuntu Karmic 9.10. Related bug is #586508 "Underlying distros moving from HAL to DeviceKit breaks Podsleuthslity to mount device"More details are available atAt the timehis writing a possible workaround is reported to be the following:Quote:[...]all I would have to do is disconnect the ipod andmake sure that banshee is closed. Then open up terminal and run
Code:
killall -9 nautilus
Then plug in the iPod and wait about 30 seconds, then run nautilus again by hitting Alt+F2. After I ran this and opened up banshee my iPod worked like a charm
I do not manage to get my my ipod touch 4g recognized by ubuntu 10.04. First time I tried, it was recognized as a camera and not as a media player. I tried to install a few other packages. Now it is not recognized at all....
I followed guidelines on the forum and installed libimobiledevice, ifuse, usbmuxd and libplist. Note I unlock my ipod before connecting it.
Here is what I get with ideviceinfo
jean-francois@Sony:~$ ideviceinfo
usbmuxd_get_device_list: error opening socket!
No device found, is it plugged in?
I see a lot of post related to new ipod touch 4g installation but I think I screwed up somewhere in my configuration since the ipod is not recognized at all.
I've made some progress (at first, the ipod wasn't seen by the system at all). I've removed what appeared to be conflicting usb mounting packages and that has allowed the ipod to be recognized by the computer (i.e. the name of the ipod show up on the desktop with an ipod icon and i can manipulate files with nautilus. however, before i upgraded to lucid, rhythmbox would start automatically and I was able to manage the music through rhythmbox. now, since the upgrade, rhythmbox does not detect the presence of the ipod.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy iPod Touch (16Go) doesn't seem to be recognized by Suse. When I plug it in, nothing happens at all (except that it seems to start charging its battery). Nothing pops up, it doesn't automount, it's not seens by KDE or by GtkPod... Nothing at all. It tried installing a bunch of iPod-related stuff from the repository, rebooted, nothing more happens.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I attach my ipod it gets automatically recognised and mounted to "/media/user's ipod". This is great but I would like to change the mount point to just "/media/ipod/" as it easier to use with gnupod (command driven ipod access oh yes!!) I've had a look around and I know how to mount devices but I'm at a lose as to how things in fedora are automatically mounted... I use gnome so from what I've read hal, dbus, and udev yeah? but I'm not sure what configuration files need to be changed. At the moment I'm just wanting to change the ipods mount point but I would like know more so any technical how-to or articles, or things to look at (I'm thinking X), to understand auto mounting would be nice too.
