Everything was going fine until about an hour ago. I havnt changed any settings on the computer. I can't open any folders, they all give a "File not found" error. Also some pics in Firefox have inverted colors. I doubt they are related though. Im running 10.10 and have been for about 2 weeks. I am completely new to linux prior to downloading this.

I currently have my pc in dual boot with UBUNTU 9.1 and windows xp. I want to remove windows but keep my videos, music, and pics. Is there a way to do this without having to burn them all to disc?

Going to default media options also does not give me picasa. I don't know where else to look for changing it. Something in gconf-editor perhaps?

After the upgrade whenever I try to open up and file or folder for that matter totem tries to open them. Totem is acting like the default app for all the files on my computer. I tried uninstalling an reinstalling both totem and ktorrent and I still have the same problem.

My music directory is a mess with folder names. Not a big deal since I use Banshee to library everything. I have a fairly large music collection on my main hard drive(140gb) but I keep id3 tags clean.
I'm setting up an ftp server and it will be impossible to navigate the way the folders are now.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen i mouse over to places/home, desktop, documents, music, pictures, videos, or downloads my music player (Banshee) opens. I had the same problem with Rhythmbox. Anyone else having this problem? To open one of the aforementioned folders, I go to Places/Computer and navigate from there. That sequence works, no problem. Also, don't know if its related but, tied "file manager" button to Docky and it won't open any of my folders.

Is there a way to give permission to mediatomb to access them? Or is there a way to access them another route because they are shared?

The drive mounts successfully in Linux and I can manually play tracks from it, but I don't seem to be able to point Rhythmbox or Banshee to the drive or to folders on the driveto add them to their libraries. I recently set up a "venerable"(Pentium 4, single-core, 2.4 GHz, 32-bit architecture) machine with Ubuntu Linux version 10.04 server-i386. My objective is to set up a "kiosk" directory on it which everyone(including guests) on my SOHO network can read from and write to.
I have designated the directory "kiosk"(no surprise there) and defined it in smb.conf. It is directly under the "home" directory, as path = /home/kiosk and set the file permissions as drwxrwxrwx or, if you prefer, like chmod 777. I have a separate machine, System Librarian running Ubuntu Linux 10.04 Desktop amd64 on the network(via Wi-Fi) and a second separate machine running Windows XP Pro, with SP3, also on the network this time via Fast EtherNet(100 Mbs).
From the Linux machine, I can read a complete file list, but I cannot "open" an RTF or an ODT doc in the kiosk directory. When I try to do so, OpenOffice.org simply "opens" a blank, untitled document. JPEG and PNG files in the kiosk directory open just fine. I cannot write to the kiosk directory from this machine, either.
From the Windows XP machine, by contrast, I can list files, open RTF and ODT docs(using Microsoft WordPad) and write file to it without any apparent problems. The file format on the server(Iguanodon) is ext4. Obviously, I have made some sort of mistake in setting this share up,
when I click on any folder under places. for example if I click on my home folder or video folder. Or any folder under places. I get a document viewer message in Red. Saying "Unable to open document" "cant open directory" how I can fix this?? im on 11.04

I can create a folder using the mkdir command and I can navigate that folder as long as that terminal session is active. View 2 Replies View RelatedSomething very strange has happened to my system (Lucid / Gnome / 64 bit): when I try to open a location from Gnome Menu, message pops up saying: "Can't open location [file:///...]. No program is registered to open this type of file." Or something in this vein, I'm translating the message from Polish. So I can't open locations via the main menu, but the bookmarks work fine in an open Nautilus window. It looks like the system doesn't know it should open a location with Nautilus... I looked through file associations in Ubuntu Tweak, but couldn't find anything corresponding to "file:///..." or anything resembling opening a location (I'm not exactly a Linux guru). Also, the folder shortcuts in Cairo-Dock don't work, the same goes for the FolderView screenlets. However, in the MainMenu screenlet, the location shortcuts do work. There has to be some obvious explanation of this anomaly, but I lack a deeper knowledge of the system to work it out. I can't say at which point it started exactly, I think it was around the time I started dragging extra shortcuts to the Cairo-Dock shortcuts applet, but that may be a coincidence.
