May 20, 2011Stupid browser froze up when I tried to submit this before... *sigh* Anyway, is there a simple midi editor that that isn't Rosegarden and doesn't require JACK? Something would simply let me load a Soundfont, and then edit and export a multi-track midi file without a bunch of other stuff you have to do?

Jul 4, 2010So I've seen all the buzz about the new libimobiledevice supporting iphone well enough to get it working with rhytmbox "out of the box".
I've achieved photo sync, internet tethering, and ssh access, but I don't know about music access.. there doesn't seem to be anything happening between rhythmbox and the iphone.
Rhythmbox regocnizes the phone and plays the music on it... but I can't seem to make any changes to that music.
The phone occasionally says "sync in progress" but I haven't pushed any "sync" button as there doesn't seem to be any or any settings for automatic syncing...

Does anyone have a music manager similar to iTunes for Ubuntu? Being able to import iTunes playlists and ratings and such would be great, but I'm not going to use an inferior program just because of that. I still hate all Apple computer products. OpenSUSE :: Finding A Open Source Music Composition Editor Similar To Sibelius
Jan 19, 2009Looking for a Open Source music composition editor similar to Sibelius. I found and settled on Rosegarden. Sound card is Creative Audigy 2 Platinum EX. I also have a midi keyboard which I would like to use with rosegarden. After downloading rosegarden, I found out in order to use the MIDI sequencer, I have to compile and install a real time kernel.
I finally got my kernel configured and installed, recompiled all the video/Ethernet drivers etc (after about a dozen tries ) Now on to the issue... As root, I can run the JACK audio server with realtime priority (as it is needed by Rosegarden) with the command
jackd -R -dalsa &
it starts up and seems to run. Then as a regular user, I try to connect to the JACK audio server using the qjackctl application. Qjackctl loads, but cannot seem to connect to the jack server, giving me the message "UNABLE TO CONNECT TO SERVER AS CLIENT"
HOWEVER, using the same procedure above as root, I can connect to the jack audio server with qjackctl. Rosegarden will start as a regular user but will also not connect to the JACK audio server (therefore: no sound or midi sequencer) Ive tried running Rosegarden as root (I didnt like having to do that), but get a similar error.
Through some googling, I�ve found that JACK clients (qjackctl, rosegarden etc.) must be executed by the same user who launched the JACK server. -- no problem...Except I cannot run a realtime application as a regular user. I read online that regular users can start realtime applications using the LSM module (whatever that is, I couldn�t find all that much).
how do I start the jack audio server in realtime mode as a regular user? if that is not possible...Is there a way to configure JACK so that it is started by root, but allows clients launched by regular users to connect?

Dec 13, 2010I have some playlist I want to keep the songorder, but I have the files in another file-structure.( I have the songs ordered in folder by artist and album, cos all songs are note tagged correctly or in the same way.)I want to use the playlist with the songs in copied to an another plays, for instance an usb-stick.Is there an application who fix mass change of all links to the songs?

Or Is there a way in Amarok or another music-player that can make a copy of the playlists song order and use it with new links on a usb-memory? I don't now how sync to media-player and such things work.

But when i open them with audacious nothing happens. I can play music files that are stored in my laptop , but not from my hard drive from NSLU2.

May 17, 2010I use ubuntu 10.04 on my desktop pc and i have on my laptop installed Windows XP with Office 2007. The office suite has been activated for the third and last time, because windows crashed on me twice before, prompting my move to linux. while this third activation of office is still working i was wondering if there was some way to salvage this activation, so i don't lose it should it fail, which it most likely will at some point in the future. i was thinking if there was a software that could copy an already installed operating system and turn it into a virtual machine. That software would of course have to run in an windows environment.
I know i can use openoffice, and i do. Its great to get things done quickly, but my college course is specific to office 2007, and i have to memorise the interface to be able to write up procedures from memory.I'm not sure but xp is probably very hardware specific so as long as i run that virtual machine on my laptop with a linux distro i should be fine.

Apr 19, 2010I've had an awkward problem lately: every music player I use wants to instead of play music from my USB external hard drive, stream music from it. I have no idea why it suddenly started doing that. It may have been an accidental key-combo I pressed, thinking I had another window targeted and didn't bother pressing it again for my Totem music player. So I closed out of Totem in hopes that Rythmbox would work like totem used to. Well, it doesn't. It wants to stream music now.The problem with the streaming music is trivial, but here it is: I have a playlist with a little over 300 songs. I have Totem set to shuffle and repeat my music. Streaming music with it makes it just stop randomly after a few songs, and when I try to pause music and play it later it takes a good 30 seconds before it kicks back in at the beginning of the song.Like I always ask because I don't know enough to give back to the community yet, can anyone help me? Thanks.

Jan 6, 2010I'm looking for a program to manage my music, and if I keep using Banshee, I'm likely to break something in my house. All I want to do is edit file tags (like genre, artist, and album title) - but it won't let me do that. I can't edit the files directly - first I have to get them into the "library", and in order to do that, I can't drag and drop them - it forces me to actually open up the files (which plays them, and sticks them smack into the middle of the "library", and I then have to go searching/scrolling through the whole thing in order to locate them and then finally edit them). And after all this, spending like 4 hours doing all this, I find out that IT DIDN'T ACTUALLY EDIT THE FILES. It edited them in its own mind - for the duration that they were in the "library" - but it didn't make a change to the actual files.
