Ubuntu Multimedia :: Create An Avi With Two Languages Starting From Two Avi In A Different Language?

Jun 21, 2011

let's say I've got one .avi video with a film with its original audio language (e.g. english) and another one .avi video with the same film but with a second audio language (e.g. re-dubbed in italian). Is it possible to get only one .avi video with the film and the two audio languages selectable?

Slackware :: KDE4.4.5 Crashes When Starting Language Settings In Systemsettings?

Dec 3, 2010

I am trying to switch to KDE4.4.5 on my main machine. I installed the KDE packages and also the german language file. Everything works fine except the language settings. When I try to start it crash and a KDE crash dialog opens that gives this "developer information":

Code:

Application: System Settings (systemsettings), signal: Segmentation fault
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/share/gdb/auto-load/usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.so.0.2200.5-gdb.py", line 9, in <module>
from gobject import register

[code].....

It works on my netbook. I run on both machines Slackware 13.1. The only difference I can think of is that KDE was pre-installed on my netbook and I just upgraded it. On my main machine I installed all packages except the packages of kde and kdei.

Debian Multimedia :: Could Not Configure Installing Custom Languages

Feb 27, 2011

My Debian installation was originally only in Croatian, and I was fine with that until now. Being irritated by some javascripts (especially those that won't let me close a tab in Iceweasel) I installed noscript. However, I could not configure it (the configuration was "translated" in Croatian rendering it useless). So I did# dpkg-reconfigure localesand added English (en_US) besides Croatian (hr_HR)....

Debian Multimedia :: Scim/skim Doesn't Show Other Languages Than English?

Jul 28, 2010

I use Lenny 2.6.26-1-686 and kde 3.5.10I installed scim/skim and a great load of related packages and some fonts. I changed a lot of configuration files, so many times that I'm at a loss about them right now. Skim is starting with kde, and an icon is showing at the lower right corner. If I press Alt+F2 to run another app though, this icon disappears. I configured skim at the meny "Main Toolbar Configuration" to "always show" [3]. So I can still configure it from this Toolbar that is always at the desktop. But I can't really use the programme.

Well, I'm trying to type romanized Pali fonts (Pali is the language of Buddhist scriptures). When I run openoffice, for instance, and try to select the "input method" there's only English/European; Raw Code; and Keyboard for alternatives.I created the file "/usr/share/m17n/sa-translit.mim" with a map for transliteration of the special characters. I learned how to do this here:The first thing I noted is that when I pasted the content of the file to the terminal, some characters appeared as "blank squares". So I guess my system can't find any fonts installed to print these characters. But I thought I had installed the fonts that supported them (Gentium, Dejavu Sans and others). I must be missing something.

At the K-Menu, if I go to "Settings" -> "SCIM Imput Method Setup" it doesn't work any more. No window opens. At first, when I was starting to try to make it work, I could open this setup window and the "sa-translit.mim" file was there under the "Other" category (but it didn't really work, I don't know why). Now this setup doesn't run anymore, and at the "Configure" window for Skim I have only "English/European" and "Raw Code" at "Global Setup"-> "Other".But I have many things at /usr/share/m17n/ which should be showing here, I guess.

My /etc/scim/global
SupportedUnicodeLocales = en_GB.utf8
/DefaultPanelProgram = /usr/bin/scim-panel-kde

I've changed so many settings and tried so many fixes that I don't know which way is up with the wireless. I'd like to start from scratch. If I install from CD, will it just write over my current ubuntu partition? Will the contents of home stay intact or will everything disappear? Do I have to create a new partition?

Ubuntu :: Support For Language While Keeping English As Language Used To Display Desktop?

Mar 5, 2011

I have some music in another language, but when I open the songs in Banshee, their song names just come up as weird characters (like μ).I went to [System --> Administration --> Language Support] and installed support for that language, but the songs still come up like μ. (But in Nautilus, their proper names show).

I know the solution is to change my whole system language to that language, but I don't want to do that, as I am not very fluent in it. Is there any way to enable support for that language while keeping English as the language used to display my desktop?

I would like to create an alternative booting possibility in my GRUB menu that does not start some services (listed by chkconfig) like cups.

I would use this boot during travel where I surely does not need these services and shorter bootup time is preferable. Permanent removal of such services is not an option because I could not miss them during normal daily work.

I use Mandriva 2010 with the latest updates.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: What I Get Is A Text File In Some Programing Language

Feb 7, 2010

The first is Mp3 which is no problem for Ubuntu. The second is WMP, also no problem. The third format is WMA, which uses an Overdrive Media Console designed to run in Windows. This has stumped me. I was hoping to run it in Wine, but the media console refuses to download into Ubuntu. Then I tried downloading the audio file straight into Ubuntu. What I get is a text file in some programing language, parts of which are in readable english describing the book and lines of code refering actual audio files(HTML tags?).So Can anybody tell me how to play WMA audio books in Ubuntu. The rest of the media is installed and works perfectly.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: No Sound After Starting Amarok?

Feb 9, 2010

If I run Amarok right after ubuntu starts, and then start a movie, there is no sound. It doesn't matter that the playback in Amarok is paused, stopped or active, there is no sound in the other player. Even if i exit Amarok, i don't get any sound. It is important to note that the other player is definitely a gnome application. I tried playing a song in Rhythmbox after Amarok was started, or play a video in Movie Player: no sound. I get sound from KDE video players, but the video doesn't work there, so that isn't an option. The only explanation i can think of, is that Amarok somehow "occupies" the sound drive, and it remains "occupied" even after the application was closed. Because if i start Movie Player before Amarok, this problem never appears.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: MythTV On 10.04 - Can't Set The Starting Channel Number

Jun 28, 2010

I have a PowerPC installation (fully patched) of Ubuntu 10, and I pulled down the MythTV suite on top (since there is no Mythbuntu/PPC that I found). I'm having an issue where after I scan for channels with my tuner using mythtv-setup, I can't set the starting channel number. Its almost as if nothing ever populates into the drop down. This seems to be specific to the combination that I have - Ubuntu 10 + PPC + Myth 0.23. If I use another x86 + Myth .21 and the same Tuner (HDHomeRun), I can set the starting channel fine. A Mac OS 10.4 + Myth .21 also allowed me to set the channel. I've rebuilt this install twice now and it won't allow me to set it. I can see the scanned data in the mythconverg database, so I know its there.

Multimedia :: Ubuntu Crackling On Starting MP3 Playback / Sort It?

Oct 22, 2010

On Maverick, I noticed a couple of days ago when I started an MP3 of a single tone recording it had a 'crackle' for about a quarter of a second at the start of playback. I initially thought there was a problem with the recording but I have noticed it is universal and I now pick up it is happening on some songs too (particularly if they start on a single note, not all songs seem affected).

This is a problem if I double-click a sound file which I open in Totem, it's also a problem if I start playing an affected track on Rhythmbox, it also happens if I just hover the mouse to start playback, but interestingly any problematic file if I load into Audacity there is no problem at all and the file plays correctly.

I doubt anyone else will have noticed this bug as it is so small and I wouldn't have picked up on it had I not been playing a single tone recording, but now I have picked up on it I can detect it all the time which is annoying. Has anyone else noticed at all?
